This is the first time that the two actors, Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, paired up for a film. Also, Bawaal is the most expensive film of Dhawan's career.

The film was criticized by the Simon Wisenthal Center for trivialising the deaths of millions of Jews which were killed during the Holocaust and for using the Auschwitz concentration camp as a metaphor.
