Netflix’s “It’s What’s Inside” is the body-swapping thriller that sparked a bidding war at Sundance, and it’s finally streaming for all to see. And you’re probably going to want to see it a couple of times, because the ensemble cast is constantly rotating through characters, leaving the audience to keep up with who’s who — and in who’s body — at what point in the film.
We’re going to keep the basic cast and character details here spoiler-free, though we will add some hints to help you keep track, in case you’re wondering where you’ve seen that actor before without getting the whole movie ruined for you. But not to worry, if you’re looking for a breakdown of who’s in who’s body, we’ll include that in a spoiler section below, too.

A quarter century after winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for “Girl, Interrupted,” Angelina Jolie is hoping to pick up the Best Actress trophy for her performance in “Maria.” In terms of Oscar history, she’d join Meryl Streep, Jessica Lange, Cate Blanchett, and Renée Zellweger, who all won for featured performances before prevailing again for star turns.
Jolie’s role, that of real-life opera singer Maria Callas, has already been proven to be awards-worthy and won Jane Seymour an Emmy nearly four decades ago. This English rose featured in the 1988 TV movie “Onassis: The Richest Man in the World,” opposite Raul Julia as Aristotle Onassis and Anthony Quinn as his father, Socrates. This remains her only Emmy win from five nominations.
Zellweger won Best Actress for her sensitive portrayal of Judy Garland in the 2020 flick “Judy.” Back in 2001, Tammy Blanchard and Judy Davis took home Emmys for their work...

Horror has an official first family and their last name is Adams. No not that one. You might be thinking of the Addams Family. They don’t make movies, they’re fictional characters and they’re nowhere near as cool as the Adams Family.
John Adams and Toby Poser, and their daughters Zelda and Lulu, have been making independent films as a family for over a decade under their production company Wonder Wheel Productions. The Adams Family ventured into the horror genre for the first time with their film The Hatred (2018), which tells the story of a young girl who brings a soldier back from the dead to unleash hell on earth. And just like that, they were hooked on horror.
The Adams Family’s early films like Rumblestrips (2013) and Knuckle Jack (2014), were usually case studies of outcasts, who were struggling to find some kind of normalcy and acceptance in...

D&W saw a great 41% dip in the sophomore session overseas (with strong holds in several areas) and remains the No. 1 non-local movie in all international markets.

Updated: Animation domination continues at the global and international box office with Universal/Illumination’s Despicable Me 4 leading the pack this frame, and Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2 still positively on fire after five sessions. At the same time, we’re seeing encouraging numbers for all major titles in release. And that’s a great thing; yes, there is reason to be positive.
Already this week, Inside Out 2 became Pixar’s highest grossing movie ever globally, and the Despicable Me/Minions franchise became the first animated franchise to reach $5B global. Neither of the current films in release are close to done. To wit: DM4 still has Japan, Korea and Italy on deck.
IO2, meanwhile, is going to Japan on August 1 — and that market may just help propel the Pixar sequel past Frozen 2 to become the biggest animated film of all time worldwide.

We're fond of pointing out that Hollywood is run by a bunch of risk-averse studio executives who take any opportunity they can to double down on the success of an existing property instead of taking a chance on something original. But while that is indeed the pervasive mentality dominating the mainstream American film industry right now, there are a handful of times where studios have not been able to immediately go back to the well and milk an idea dry. The most recent and high-profile example is "Barbie," which was a global sensation and the highest-grossing film of 2023 (not to mention the highest-grossing movie in Warner Bros. history), and as of this writing, we still haven't heard anything concrete about a possible "Barbie 2."
Another example: Jan de Bont's "Twister" was the second highest-grossing film of 1996, but it's taken almost 30 years for a sequel to make its way to theaters.

Michael Douglas is in terrific form as Benjamin Franklin in Apple TV’s new historical limited series “Franklin” but he isn’t the only actor to emerge with awards whispers whizzing through the air. Veteran actor Eddie Marsan features in a key supporting role as John Adams and delivers one of the finest performances of his career while also shining a new light onto a man that many actors have depicted before.
The limited series follows Franklin’s eight years in France as he tried to persuade King Louis XVI (Tom Pezier) to join the colonies’ cause and aid them in the American Revolutionary War. The scenes between Douglas and Marsan are nothing short of spectacular and Marsan nails his performance as Adams, as noted by critics.
Clint Worthington (Roger Ebert) noted: “Marsan’s energy as Adams is decidedly different from Paul Giamatti’s in Ellis’ original 2008 miniseries—“Franklin” feels...

Our planet can be absolutely terrifying. From unpredictable earthquakes to monstrous storms, there’s really no shortage of ways in which our cosmic home can kill us. And yet, our species perseveres, with humanity going so far as to entertain itself by telling stories about how we can overcome – or at the very least survive – the fury of nature. In fact, these stories have become so prevalent in popular culture that disaster movies are known to be one of the most profitable genres in all of cinema, and while some audiences remain critical so-called “disaster-porn,” I’d argue that the best of these films are really about the endurance of the human spirit.
And if you’re planning on telling a story about people coming to terms with how fragile they are when confronted with nature, why not place the camera in the hands of your own main characters? I mean,...

As an actress, Maggie Smith can do no wrong. She’s a lot more fallible at choosing projects, as evidenced by this treacly story about Irishwomen of different generations who travel to the shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in France, praying for a miracle.
Smith is at the center of a powerhouse trio of actresses here, along with Laura Linney and Kathy Bates. And while recent films like Book Club and 80 for Brady have labored the point that older women still like sex, The Miracle Club is set in a tradition-bound 1967 Dublin barely touched by the sexual revolution of the era. That offers no improvement on the often cartoonish roles available for overqualified actresses of a certain age. Directed with pedestrian competence by Thaddeus O’Sullivan, The Miracle Club is about secrets that are all too obvious, and forgiveness you can see coming from the start.

In the fall of 2021, Olivia Colman scored her first career Emmy for “The Crown” despite not having succeeded on her Oscar bid for “The Father” that spring. This made her the 16th performer to prevail at the Emmys directly after going home empty-handed at the Oscars and the fourth to do so during the 21st century. Now that the 2023 Emmy nominations ballots have been released, eight of the 16 actors who lost Oscars at the most recent ceremony officially have shots at joining Colman on this list.
Gold Derby’s Emmy odds currently indicate that the man and woman with the best hopes of following in Colman’s footsteps are Brian Tyree Henry and Hong Chau, who just received their first career Academy Award nominations for their respective supporting turns in “Causeway” and “The Whale.” Henry is seeking his second comedy supporting Emmy notice for “Atlanta,” while Chau could pull double...

A teenage son wants to follow his a legendary storm-tracker dad’s footsteps – with the late lamented Anne Heche sparky in one of her final roles
Every generation needs its own VFX-heavy action thriller about storm-chasing meteorology nerds and there hasn’t really been one since Twister in 1996. A supercell, by the way, is a mega-huge tornado-thunderstorm weather event that the Brody family – dad Bill (Richard Gunn), his wife Quinn and Bill’s brother Roy (Skeet Ulrich) – gets frightfully excited about. Bill and Roy chase storms like this all over Texas and Oklahoma in a gas-guzzling truck while Quinn stays home monitoring satellite feeds and screaming into a shortwave radio when she’s not looking after her and Bill’s son William.
Of course, like Icarus but with cowboy boots, Bill gets too close to the killing end of a storm and dies. Quinn is so bereaved that, despite...

Who would have thought we would be seeing a sequel to 47 Ronin among all of the Halloween goodies? But sure enough, Universal 1440 Entertainment, the company’s direct-to-video department, has come up with Blade of the 47 Ronin, a modern-day sequel to the Keanu Reeves samurai epic. And they said there’s no such thing as The Great Pumpkin.
Somewhere in Budapest Yurei kills Arai thought to be the last in the bloodline of those who wielded the Blade of the 47 Ronin. But as he kills him he senses the existence of another heir.

It’s been a good awards season so far for the Gleeson clan. The Irish acting family made strong impacts on the big and small screens. Now brothers Domhnall Gleeson and Brian Gleeson could both be Emmy nominees for their performances in “The Patient” and “Bad Sisters,” respectively.
Patriarch Brendan Gleeson has long been an admired character actor. He only just received his first Oscar nomination this year — Best Supporting Actor for “The Banshees of Inisherin” — but his awards resume goes back further than that. For instance, he received industry plaudits for playing Winston Churchill in the telefilm “Into the Storm” (2009), for which he won an Emmy and earned a BAFTA nomination. In all he has received two Emmy nominations, three BAFTA bids, and two Screen Actors Guild noms in addition to his aforementioned Oscar citation.

A number of great movies are leaving HBO Max at the end of March, so it’s time to prioritize these titles in your queue. Filmmaker James Gunn’s sequel/soft reboot “The Suicide Squad” will depart the streaming service on March 22 after first hitting HBO Max the same day it was released in theaters back in 2021. Similarly, “Space Jam: A New Legacy” was whisked away on March 1 after also getting a day-and-date release in 2021 (sorry/not sorry if you missed it).
You also only have until March 7 to stream “Just a Boy From Tupelo: Bringing Elvis to the Big Screen,” a short documentary on the making of the Oscar-nominated biopic “Elvis.”
Other noteworthy films leaving HBO Max this month include “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Contagion,” the extended version of “Dances with Wolves,” “Ghostbusters,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Love & Basketball” and “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

Critics love Martin McDonagh’s new film “The Banshees of Inisherin,” which reunites Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, his two leads from 2008’s black crime comedy “In Bruges” as feuding former friends.
The film had its world premiere at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, where Farrell won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor and McDonagh won for Best Screenplay. Five years ago, McDonagh won the same award for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” which set the stage for an Oscar in the same category. “Billboards” stars Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell also won Oscars.
So could this be the film that might finally get Farrell his first Academy Award nomination? The actor, who netted a Golden Globe for “In Bruges,” is overdue for some Oscar love, as is Gleeson, an Emmy winner for 2009’s “Into the Storm.”

When Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson played hit men in the 2008 black comedy “In Bruges,” it was an inspired pairing, letting both actors shine in ways they hadn’t before. Farrell’s good looks had won him the lead in “Tigerland” over 20 years ago, but directors shied away from exploring his talents as a character actor. Gleeson had won an Emmy for playing Winston Churchill in an HBO movie, “Into the Storm,” and was nominated as Best Actor by the New York Film Critics Circle in 1998 for playing Irish folk hero Martin Cahill in “The General,” but the big buzzy movie part eluded him. Together “In Bruges,” they were hilarious and the Hollywood Foreign Press nominated both Farrell and Gleeson for Golden Globe awards in 2009; Farrell won as Best Actor in a Comedy.

Warner Bros. Discovery has had a rough go of it recently. The newly-formed mega corporation’s decision to callously prune HBO Max’s servers of hours of content has led to mountains of bad PR and billions of dollars in market cap losses. Suffice it to say, a jam-packed list of new HBO Max releases for September 2022 would provide some welcome relief for the “House of the House of the Dragon.”
Unfortunately, HBO Max’s new releases this month are uncommonly light. It’s impossible to say whether this is the result of more Wbd meddling or simply some bad scheduling luck but either way it’s not going to make any executives’ seats less warm. There are only a handful of notable originals this month, led by season 2 of the Spanish language comedy Los Espookys on Sept. 16. That is joined by a pair of documentaries, Escape from Kabul on Sept.

Hulu’s upcoming series Saint X is undergoing a major casting change. Victoria Pedretti (You) who had been tapped as the lead, has departed the psychological drama over creative differences. Last Year’s Winner: Mark Ruffalo, “I Know This Much Is True”
Still Eligible: No.
Hot Streak: In accordance with its category, the Best Actor in a Limited Series race hasn’t seen a repeat winner or even back-to-back wins by the same network in over a decade. Still, a recent anthology series does have a perfect two-for-two record in the category: “American Crime Story” has garnered wins in each of its first two seasons, with both Courtney B. Vance walking away with the trophy for “The People vs. O.J. Simpson” and then Darren Criss snagging his own Emmy two years later for “The Assassination of Gianni Versace.” We’ll have to wait one more year to see if the FX series can go three-for-three.
Fun Fact: “American Crime Story” is one of only two programs with more than one win in the category, although it’s still way behind in total nominations.

Days before the release of their new album Fortitude, Gojira dropped the energetic new single “The Chant.”
The track clocks in at just over five minutes, kicking off with sweeping vocals the band described as a “healing ritual.” Joe Duplantier commented on the track: “Let this chant ring in your bones and lift you up.”
Fortitude — the band’s seventh LP — arrives on Friday. They also shared a teaser for “The Chant” video, which will premiere on the album’s release day. It features monks meditating across images of Duplantier belting the lyrics.

Gojira have released “Into the Storm,” the fourth single from their upcoming album Fortitude. The Grammy-nominated band will release their latest LP on April 30th via Roadrunner Records.
“This song is infused with the concept of civil disobedience,” Gojira vocalist and guitarist Joe Duplantier said. “Acting accordingly with our deepest wisdom and standing for what is precious and good in this world. The only possible revolution is the one that blossoms from within us. Change will come from individuals. Laws are meant to be bent and shaped to our vital needs.
