Political comedy drama Battleground, which marked Hulu's first foray into original programming, is returning for a second season, over five years after its launch. However, it is not returning to the small screen, but rather has been adapted into a British podcast. There have been a raft of podcast-to-TV adaptations, including Amazon's forthcoming Julia Roberts-fronted, Sam Esmail-directed remake of Homecoming, but this is thought to be the first TV series that has moved…...

I’ve watched a lot of television shows this summer: The Vampire Diaries, How I Met Your Mother, and The Wonder Years, to name just a few.
What’s more, I didn’t even have access to a TV.
Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and other online streaming outlets have changed the way we watch our favorite shows — and, now that they are diving into the world of original programming, are about to change it even more.
With more and more outlets buying streaming rights for broadcast network and cable content, purchasing exclusive deals is becoming much pricier, and streaming companies are finding it increasingly difficult to stand out. By creating original content, these online networks will have content they control (creatively and financially) and have exclusive use of.
Netflix and Hulu have already dipped their toes in the water, while Amazon recently announced its plans to create shows.

The stars were out on Wednesday night to celebrate Belvedere Vodka's Nylon Summer Music Issue Celebration, with host Shirley Manson and special performance by Garbage. Luckily, I (TheInsider.com's very own Meg Swertlow!) also got an invite to the music-tastic soiree -- and I didn't even have to give up a kidney or my first born. Here are some of the VIP party deets!
After getting locked in the stairwell of parking lot – I feared my friend Kate and I would miss seeing my high school icon perform. But after a lot of yelling, a lot of scrambling up and down several flights of stairs in high heels, we got there just in time to see the amazing Shirley Manson take to the stage and prove once again she ain’t no stupid girl. While she the saucy Scottish singer and her band may have not come out with a record for seven years, the electrifying...

With Emmy season underway, Hulu is betting on its original politics-driven series Battleground. Originally developed for Fox, the 13-episode documentary-style show from J.D. Walsh follows a group of campaign workers led by manager Tak Davis (Jay Hayden) in Madison, Wis. working for an underdog candidate trying to get elected to the U.S. Senate. Filmed on location in Madison, Walsh wrote (or co-wrote) and directed every episode of the series, which wrapped its first season May 8. As Walsh tells it, the move from network television to Hulu was a blessing in disguise. "What made

If you're a regular watcher of things on the Internet, then you know Alison Haislip. From her time at G4 as a host of the geek-friendly "Attack of the Show" and the sports competition "American Ninja Warrior," she's come to symbolize social media-savvy talent in the digital age. It's not a stretch, then, to see her as Ali Laurents, the social media coordinator for an underdog state senate campaign followed in the Hulu original "Battleground." The site's first scripted full-length series, "Battleground" is executive produced by "(500) Days of Summer" director Marc Webb and had its season finale on Tuesday. Indiewire caught up with Haislip via email while she was in London and asked her about the emerging landscape for online distribution, what she brought to the character of Ali and how far down the politico rabbit hole she went for research. You've clearly got the social media background down, but did you look.

Hulu kicked off the so-called digital upfronts today with presentations for its expanding stable of originals. Documentarian Morgan Spurlock, Saturday Night Live‘s Seth Meyers and Entourage‘s Adrian Grenier were on hand to schmooze with advertisers. Producers hope to lure away some of the billions of dollars that go to cable and TV networks; Vevo, Microsoft, AOL, Yahoo and Disney Interactive are expected to pitch their shows to advertisers next week. In addition to Spurlock, Meyers and Grenier, talent on hand to boost Hulu included Megan Hilty from Smash, Speed Levitch of Up To Speed, Jd Walsh and Jay Hayden from Battleground, Michael “Dooma” Wendschuh from Flow and Mayer Hawthorne with Live From The Artist’s Den. Hulu says paid subscribers for Hulu Plus surpassed 2 million during first-quarter 2012 and claims that Hulu represents 20% of the overall online video market and 40% of the premium online market. Here are the site...

Battleground, Hulu’s first original scripted series from executive producer Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man), is a solid addition to Hulu’s slate of original programming. Centered around the staff of a losing campaign in the 2012 Wisconsin senate race, Battleground is a political comedy that skews to the Choose or Loose demo and offers quality humor. Instead of focusing on older, experienced West Wing-type politicians and staff, the show follows Chris “Tak” Davis (Jay Hayden), a young campaign manager currently on a 0-6 losing streak. He leads a motley campaign crew trying to win against the Makers' campaign, the current favorites and Tak’s former boss. While underdog political stories are nothing new, Battleground is a lighthearted series that becomes more enjoyable the more you watch it. That probably has to do with the fact the program is less The Candidate and more The Office. The inter-personal relationships between the...

Hulu is gearing up for battle. The online TV service launches its first original scripted series, Battleground, on Tuesday, February 14, and will continue to roll out new episodes every Tuesday over the next several weeks. The show, created by Jd Walsh, takes a comedic faux documentary-style look at a group of campaign workers in the battleground state of Wisconsin. Jay Hayden stars as Chris "Tak" Davis, the manager of a distant third-place Senate candidate, while Ben Samuel, Teri Reeves and Alison Haislip also star. Hulu has produced 13 episodes of the 22-minute comedy, which also comes from executive producers Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer, The Amazing Spiderman) and Hagai Shaham. Walsh and Webb answered TV Guide Magazine's showrunner survey in the hopes of earning your viewership vote.

This story first appeared in the Jan. 27 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. Nearly five years into a venture backed by rivals Disney, NBCUniversal and News Corp., video hub Hulu is going where it's not yet gone: original scripted programming. The online video site's first entry, Battleground, is a workplace dramedy that explores the behind-the-scenes chaos of unruly political campaign workers from (500) Days of Summer's Marc Webb and actor-turned-director Jd Walsh. The project, set to launch Feb. 14, joins a second season of Morgan Spurlock's documentary series A Day in the Life and Richard
