Konstantin Stanislavski taught us that “there are no small parts, only small actors.” Film and TV familiar face Dabbs Greer believed that “every character actor, in their own little sphere, is the lead.” Both would probably have been excited about this year’s Oscar race, where several best picture contenders high-light the power of an ensemble film: no matter where a talent ranks on the call sheet, everyone in the film has some choice scene time.

With Venom: The Last Dance set to hit theaters this weekend, Sony Pictures has released the first couple of clips from the threequel.
The first sees Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) enter a casino, as the symbiote excitedly uses the last of their cash on a slot machine (he doesn't react well to losing). The second clip is a little more revealing, as we learn that Doctor Payne (Juno Temple) has seemingly managed to separate Eddie from his alien pal.
The review embargo for The Last Dance lifted last night, and the critical consensus was not overly positive. Though some are referring to this final instalment in the franchise as the best of the trilogy, the movie has now dropped to 37% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 71 reviews.
This places the movie higher than 2018's Venom (30%), but significantly lower than Let There Be Carnage, which sits at a more respectable 57% on the review aggregator.

Hulu’s new Spanish-language series ‘La Máquina’ (2024) is a visually striking, dark dramedy that masterfully blends campy, over-the-top elements with moments of psychological tension. Set primarily in Mexico, the show follows an aging boxer and his crafty manager as they gear up for what could be their final match. What truly sets ‘La Máquina’ apart from typical sports dramas is its surreal tone and its nuanced portrayal of family dynamics. The series balances moments of absurdity with heartfelt interactions, creating a unique blend of suspense, humor, and emotional depth. If the film and TV industry has one truth, it’s this: There is no single path to success. Pixar director Mike Jones is proof of that, and he’ll be sharing insights into his journey— and what you can expect from your own — at IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking Summit taking place in Los Angeles November 2.

Jones has had an inspiring and unique journey in the film world. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he started as a film journalist after graduating from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in the mid ’90s, serving as managing editor for Filmmaker Magazine and executive editor of IndieWire. His first screenplay was produced in 2001 when he was 30: “EvenHand” was a small indie that played at SXSW, Tribeca, and AFI Fest. But as so many writers have realized, getting one film produced...

Can you believe that it’s almost Halloween, and then it’s on to Thanksgiving? It’s that time of year, and as we head towards the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Disney has announced that this year, they will debut a new Disney Cruise Line float called “Magic Meets the Seas.”
Disney is pushing its cruise lines. I think they make way more per customer on those cruises than they do on the parks. Currently, they have eight ships on the sea or in development and have announced that they want to have 13 by 2031. Frankly, I think they will oversaturate the market there, as Disney tends to do, but that’s my opinion.

Despite negative reviews and a mixed response from the majority of comic book fans, the previous Venom movies both performed very well at the box office. Could the final instalment in the trilogy, this month's Venom: The Last Dance, buck the trend?
Updated box office tracking is in, and according to Deadline, Sony Pictures' threequel looks set for a $70 million opening weekend when it arrives in theaters on October 25.
While this wouldn't be a bad debut by any means and would still be the second best opening of 2024 for a comic-book feature after Deadpool & Wolverine's $211.4 million (not that there was much in the way of competition out there), it would mark the lowest opening of the franchise. The first Venom took in $80.2 million in 2028, while the more positively-received sequel, 2021's Let There Be Carnage, made $90 million.
We really don't see Venom 3 flopping given the popularity of the earlier movies, but if it underperforms,...

Refresh for latest…: After its sadly disappointing start last weekend, Warner Bros and Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux is still a sad clown, adding an estimated $22.7M from 77 international box office markets this session (a 70.5% drop). The final trailer for Sony Pictures' Venom: The Last Dance dropped the surprising reveal that Knull is going to be introduced in the threequel. Though the character's face was obscured, recent rumors have claimed that Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings; Black Panther) will take on the role via motion-capture.
Sony/Marvel are believed to have big plans for this powerful villain going forward, but what can we expect from his big-screen debut?
According to Mttsh... not very much!
The scooper is reporting that The God of the Symbiotes won't have a significant role in Venom 3. In fact, Eddie Brock/Venom (Tom Hardy) won't even encounter the character in the movie. Knull will appear in a couple of scenes in space (possibly imprisoned on Klyntar), and will also be a part of the post-credits scene.

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have shown that humor and teamwork can help propel a superhero movie to success. Their new film “Deadpool & Wolverine” is breaking box office records thanks partly to the comedic rapport between its two leading stars.
Jackman and Reynolds have fostered a playful rivalry for years through social media posts and joking comments during press tours. Audiences have enjoyed their banter, and it has become a hallmark of their joint appearances. Their mock feud takes center stage in the new film.
In a recent interview, Jackman recounted his brief early career as a birthday party clown named “Coco.” Along with a partner, he would perform without any specialized skills. At one ill-fated event, an 8-year-old dubbed Jackman a “crap” clown. Feeling he had to salvage the act, Jackman resorted to smashing eggs on his own head to elicit laughter – effectively ending his clowning days.

Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are developing “Dynamic Duos,” a theatrical animated film featuring Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, who have both taken up the mantle of Batman’s sidekick Robin.

For many years, the two-word phrase “superhero,” as well as other variants like “superhero” and “super-hero,” were under the joint ownership of both DC Comics and Marvel Comics. While both were influential in the genre since the 1930s, they were far from the only companies producing content in that genre. But since both were the biggest names associated with the genre both filed a joint trademark in 1977 and have held it since.
But now, after nearly 50 years, the “Super Hero” trademark has been dismissed following a challenge by Scott Richold of Superbabies Ltd.
The argument was made that the superhero phrase was a generic term and thus was not qualified for legal protection and ownership.
A challenge was issued this past May with The Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. While Superbabies Ltd. asked the court for a default judgment, both DC and...

Despite mostly negative reviews, the Venom movies performed very well at the box office, and it looks like Sony Pictures' trilogy-capper, Venom: The Last Dance, might end up being an even bigger success than both previous instalments.
According to BoxOfficePro.com's long-range forecasts, Venom 3 could be looking at a domestic opening weekend in the $80M – $120M range. There's obviously a lot of room between those numbers, but should The Last Dance's debut come in on the higher end, it will surpass its predecessor's openings and could potentially claim one of the best box office bow's of 2024.
Recent rumors have claimed that Spider-Man 4 will feature both Venom and the villainous Knull, but could we see Tom Holland's Spidey swing by in The Last Dance to set things up? We don't have anything too concrete to go on, but a couple of internet scoopers have dropped some not-so subtle...

Even if you’re not a Halloween person, October means spooky season. It feels like every brand, store, — and yes, every streamer, finds ways to incorporate themes of haunting and horror. Disney+ started early, with the September premiere of “Agatha All Along,” which will air new episodes for the next several weeks. In October, the streamer will debut “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” an expansion of the popular Disney Channel series “Wizards of Waverly Place” which aired from 2007 to 2012.
And of course Hulu has “Huluween,” a celebration of the scariest titles either premiering on the streamer for the first time or simply highlighted from its existing library. That includes films like “Late Night with the Devil,” the series “Reginald the Vampire,” FX’s “American Horror Stories”, a Halloween specials from “Family Guy” and “Solar Opposites,” a docuseries on witch hunting, and much more.

When Josh Gad joined the voice cast of Disney's animated movie "Frozen," which came out in 2013, he probably didn't think that he was about to become part of one of the biggest pop culture juggernauts in recent history. Both the original and its 2019 sequel, "Frozen II," made buckets of money at the box office, while the first movie also scored an Academy Award for best original song (thanks to the inescapable earworm "Let It Go"). Plus, Gad's character Olaf, a living snowman who wants to experience summer, became a breakout success on his own. So does Gad have any regrets about his "Frozen" experience? Yes, actually. He wishes he'd changed his voice a little more for the character.
"If I could do it all over again, I would not have lent that snowman my voice. I would've created a different voice," Gad said while participating in an interview at Fan Expo Canada,...

The final trailer for Venom: The Last Dance has arrived, setting the stage for Tom Hardy's last outing as the fan-favorite villain-turned-superhero, and finally revealing the film's ultra-powerful villain: Knull.
No word on who's playing the God of the symbiotes or the extent of his role, but it does look like we'll be getting a comic-accurate depiction. As for his goal in the threequel, it sounds like he'll be hunting Venom down and sending every symbiote in his arsenal after the dynamic duo, in an attempt to retrieve something important, which we're going to guess is the All-Black (or the Sony's Spider-Man Universe version of it), although we'll have to wait and see.
After that, there's plenty of new footage in the trailer to enjoy, especially lots of gnarly new symbiotes. While characters like Toxin seem like a given to pop up, it still remains up in the...

In modern IP culture, you occasionally get films that feel like total filler, movies that only exist to remind people that, oh yeah, that franchise is still around. 2024 movie theaters have already hosted plenty of cinematic hot air, from “Madame Web” to “Alien: Romulus,” but it’s hard to think of a project this year more pointless than “Transformers One,” an animated adventure starring Hasbro’s robots in disguise that asks an uninteresting question — how did Optimus Prime become Optimus Prime? — and answers it with a straight down the middle, perfectly calibrated kids film that does almost nothing to delight or excite.
It is admittedly a futile exercise to get offended over the sanctity of the “Transformers” franchise, which from its early days as an ’80s cartoon favorite has always existed in service of selling kids cool toy robots that can transform into firetrucks or fighter jets. Still, the war...

New calendar month, new offerings from Disney+! The streamer’s light summer continues, but one of the year’s biggest and most anticipated series will have its debut this month: the Marvel Studios/Marvel Television spinoff series “Agatha All Along.” Kathryn Hahn reprises her Emmy-nominated “WandaVision” role as the infamous witch Agatha Hackness as she works with some unlikely allies on her quest to regain her former powers. “Heartstopper” star Joe Locke co-stars in the new MCU addition, which will premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 18 with new episodes continuing to debut throughout September and October.

Eiichiro Oda began One Piece serialization in 1997, and since 1999, the anime has been going on. For the past 25 years, there have been only a handful of anime franchises that posed a challenge to One Piece. The story flows at a steady pace and beautifully portrays the action-adventure genre. Monkey D. Luffy’s dream of becoming the King of Pirates has everyone rooting for him.
One Piece is loved by all irrespective of gender, but there is a particular aspect that Oda had in mind while drawing Luffy. The anime is filled with male and female characters, but initially, the mangaka wanted to go with the concept of a masculine world. Even Akira Toriyama was full of praise for one of the Big Three mangaka.

For the past four years, Chinese audiences haven’t shown much interest in Hollywood movies.
So, the breakout success of Disney and 20th Century’s “Alien: Romulus,” a gory sci-fi thriller that earns its R rating, has been a welcome surprise. The newest chapter in the long-running horror saga has been the rare bright spot among American imports with $82 million and counting in mainland China. It’s expected to reach $114 million (RMB819) by the end of its theatrical run, according to forecast from Chinese ticketing agency Maoyan.
So far, only one other 2024 U.S. title, the Warner Bros. tentpole “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” has managed to make a dent on China’s box office charts with $134 million. And in terms of Hollywood wins, those riches come with an asterisk because the monster mashup was produced by Chinese-owned Legendary Entertainment and distributed by the company’s China local unit Legendary East.

Disney announced plans to open a new attraction based on the Pixar film “Coco” at its Disney California Adventure theme park. Scheduled to break ground in 2026, the attraction will transport guests to the Land of the Dead through an immersive boat ride experience.
Details revealed so far suggest visitors will take a boat tour through the colorful world seen in the movie. During a presentation at the D23 Expo fan event, Disney chairman Josh D’Amaro said the ride will feature believable animatronic figures of characters from the film. “You’ll see skeletal characters come to life in new ways using the latest technology,” D’Amaro explained.
To demonstrate the attraction’s atmosphere, actor Gael García Bernal unexpectedly appeared in character as Ernesto de la Cruz. He entertained the crowd by singing the popular song “Remember Me.” This preview hinted that the boat ride will fuse the film’s story and...

“Coco” is coming to Disney California Adventure.
“We are bringing our skeleton cast to life via the latest in audio-animatronic technology. Work is underway and we are breaking ground in 2026. And if you haven’t guessed, music will play an important role in this attraction,” Josh D’Amaro, head of Disney Experiences, announced.
D’Amaro said that the attraction was inspired by the immersive Disney theme park masterpieces like Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion and the concept art (see above) featured a boat-type ride vehicle, traveling through iconic moments from the Pixar film directed by Lee Unkrich.
A “Coco”-themed attraction was long-rumored for the Mexico pavilion at Epcot, part of the Walt Disney World resort complex outside of Orlando, Florida. That attraction would have taken over a boat ride, which was originally just themed to Mexico tourism before getting an overlay featuring the Three Caballeros.

Pixar’s “Elio” has gone through some pretty big changes.
The outer space adventure, which was announced in 2022 at D23, was initially directed by Adrian Molina, the co-writer and co-director of “Coco.” But the project is now being steered by Domee Shi, director of “Turning Red,” and Madeline Sharafian, who made the 2020 short film “Burrow”. TheWrap spoke to Pete Docter, chief creative officer of Pixar, about what happened on the road to “Elio.”
Docter said that Molina is still at Pixar and, what’s more, he “was taken on to a priority project that we’re not ready to talk about yet, but it’s very exciting and he’s excited about it as well,” even though he’s no longer involved with “Elio.”
“We worked together to find other directors to help carry it across,” Docter said. They found who they were looking for in Shi and Sharafian. “The...

The Country Bears have had a makeover. The long-running Country Bear Jamboree attraction at Walt Disney World in Florida is reopening this month after being dark for six months, with a familiar look but a new name, a new script and a new score made up mostly of classic Disney songs sung by Americana musicians including Mac McAnally, Allison Russell, Chris Thile and Emily Ann Roberts.
The newly renamed “Country Bear Musical Jamboree” now has McAnally, a country singer-songwriter who is most widely known for being a decades-long mainstay of Jimmy Buffett’s band, serving as the producer and arranger of all the musical material for the revamped attraction. He also sings country-fied versions of “Bare Necessities” (from “The Jungle Book”) and “Fixer-Upper” (from “Frozen”) as a member of the voice cast.

Disney’s new version of the Country Bear Jamboree, the “Country Bear Musical Jamboree,” debuted today for some people ahead of its official opening on July 17. With recent Disney “refreshes,” I expect the worst but hope for the best. But this one isn’t terrible.
I am a Disney purist, so take that as you will, but even I could see that the “Country Bear Jamboree” needed a major refresh, and I didn’t want to see it leave Frontierland or be replaced with “Toy Story.” Since Disney CEO Bob Iger is on a quest to see how much IP he can shove into every park, I was concerned about using newer Disney songs.
The good!
The animatronics look fantastic! They looked pretty dingy and old before the refresh and now they look great.
All our old favorites were back!
Henry, the Five Bear Rugs, Trixie, Bunny, Bubbles, Beulah, Teddi,...

There’s no doubt that sometimes animated movies manage to capture so much more in their stories than regular ones. Through bright and colorful animated characters, the movie creators usually tell meaningful stories about love, friendship, family values, feelings, and grief.
Somehow these stories manage to reach the deepest strings of the soul, waking up emotions we didn’t know even existed. Recently released Inside Out 2, the second part of one of Pixar's most emotional stories, is exactly a movie that managed to do so – quite literally, in fact.
And if you already rewatched the first part before going to the cinema to watch the new one, but still feel the need to prolong the feeling you got while watching them both, here are 5 more movies for a perfect evening with your family.
1. Up (2009)
There was no way we could have started with anything but this heartfelt film from Pete Docter.

Hollywood was on tenterhooks before this make-or-break box office weekend. But Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” delivered and then some, with a rousing $155 million domestic gross plus $140 million international, the best opening of the year so far, and since last year’s “Barbie.” Screenwriter Meg LeFauve, nominated in 2016 for writing the Oscar-winning animated original, rejoined Pixar for the sequel, starting before the pandemic pushed animated releases onto streaming. Now, Disney and Pixar are luring audiences back into theaters.
“We didn’t know what was coming,” LeFauve said on Zoom. “The only pressure was it had to be sequel-worthy Pixar. You have to explain why. Can we go to new places and discover new things in this world? And can we dig into something personal and emotional and vulnerable to share?”
At Pixar, the writing process for an animated feature is radically different than live-action movies. First, there’s the Brain Trust.

Moving into acting during the start of the ‘90s, Will Smith has built himself to be one of the most bankable faces in Hollywood. Grossing over $9.3 billion globally, his movies have always struck a chord with the audience. Famed for his versatility in roles ranging from sci-fi to action-comedy with the likes of Men In Black and Bad Boys being his most celebrated outings, he has, though, contributed much more poignantly to cinema.

A father of three, Smith has, at times, settled into his real-life shoes to resonate to the core with anyone watching. Notably, his acting stints alongside his son, Jaden Smith as his co-star, have gone on to capture riveting moments of fatherhood quite poignantly. As such, one movie from 2006 featuring the duo not only received widespread acclaim but also made itself synonymous as...

Pixar is relying on Inside Out 2 to dig them it of a creative rut – but is it even in one in the first place?
Pete Docter, the director behind some of Pixar’s most beloved hits is excited for the animation studio’s future. Not, though, for the reasons you might expect.
“I’ve been at Pixar for 33 years, and I don’t think we’ve ever been in a period of more turmoil and uncertainty than right now, which is kind of exciting,” the chief creative officer told Entertainment Weekly. It’s hard at first to disagree: Pixar arguably hasn’t had an industry-approved “hit” since Toy Story 4.
All hopes, then, are pinned on Inside Out 2. The studio’s first dyed-in-the-wool sequel since 2019, the follow-up to one of the most acclaimed animated films of the 21st century has already gotten stellar reviews. It’s tracking towards one of,...

There was a time when Pixar could do no wrong. As a result, everyone was shocked when Toy Story spin-off Lightyear underperformed, though that did come after former Disney CEO Bob Chapek made the controversial decision to dump titles like Luca, Soul, and Turning Red on Disney+ during the pandemic.
Elemental struggled at the box office last year (even if it managed to shake off "flop" status once its theatrical run concluded) and all eyes are on Inside Out 2 to now "save" Pixar.
The sequel is currently eyeing a $135 million global debut and early reviews could help it exceed expectations at the box office.
As we write this, the Inside Out follow-up sits at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes with 114 reviews counted. According to the Critics Consensus, "Spicing things up with the wrinkle of teenage angst, Inside Out 2 clears the head and warms the heart by living up to its predecessor's emotional intelligence.

If anyone’s created any animated magic in the West, it’s Disney and Pixar. Although connected since 2006 (Pixar started off as an independent studio before being acquired by Disney), the two studios have had different policies for a while, but while they still release films somewhat independently, a balance has been found and it is now more difficult to tell a Disney production from a Pixar one; two decades ago, which is not t along, it was very easy to do. But, regardless of the magic and the historical importance, both studios have been struggling for a while now in the financial sense. Workers have been laid off, projects have been put on hold and their overall number has been reduced, while those that have been released are not doing that well at the box office.

The long-expected layoffs at Pixar Animation Studios have begun.
Today, leadership at the storied company that traces it origins to the late Steve Jobs and was bought by Disney in 2006 will notify employees of the reductions, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. It is the biggest restructuring in Pixar’s history, although top leadership isn’t impacted.
Approximately 14 percent of Pixar’s workforce, or around 175 employees, will be let go. Before the reductions, approximately 1,300 people worked at the animation studio.
The layoffs are part of Disney chief Bob Iger’s overarching mandate to return to a focus on quality, versus churning out content for streaming which was a priority for his sort-lived successor, Bob Chapek. Disney execs have talked about returning to a focus on quality during numerous earnings calls this year, saying creative teams across the company were stretched too thin in the arms race to feed streamers.

The majority of Pixar films are not to be watched without tissues. From the furnace farewell in Toy Story 3, to the ‘Married Life’ sequence in Up, to the ‘Remember Me’ scene in Coco, the studio tends to have one hand placed firmly on your tear-ducts. And that’s not to mention Inside Out, perhaps the most emotionally effective of any Pixar film. The ‘death’ of Bing Bong, the first foray through young Riley’s mind, the reconciliation of Joy and Sadness… it’s a non-stop heart-squeezer. And that’s a tough act to follow for this year’s Inside Out 2, following Riley through puberty as a raft of new emotions – chiefly Anxiety, plus Envy, Embarrassment and Ennui – come into play.
According to incoming writer Dave Holstein, the newly-developed ‘Belief System’ in Riley’s mind isn’t just a cool environment for the sequel to explore – it’s going...
