Heading Out was a title that I was very excited to review simply because I had never seen anything quite like it. It appealed to the racing fan in me and felt like a title that was the developer’s medium to take risks in certain areas and play it safe in others. A roguelite title about a road trip, the game allows you to pick your poison before you rev the engine. You create an impressive backstory for your character, but the title also feels unpolished and hurried in some places.

Racing titles come and go. We have sims, arcades, and simcades, all fantastic subgenres. But while I was excited to try Heading Out by Serious Sim, I had zero idea what I was getting into. But excitement faded within the first 2 hours of my playthrough.

As Omeda looks to take over the Moba landscape with its new title, Predecessor, the game has an interesting origin story that started eight years ago. Multiplayer online battle arena enthusiasts probably came across another title in the genre called Paragon a while back, which was developed and published by Epic Games, but things didn’t work out too well for it due to a lack of players and sustainability.
That led to the game’s servers being shut down two years later, but it wasn’t all in vain since that was somewhat of a starting point for Predecessor.

When one thinks of multiplayer online battle arena, or Moba, games, League of Legends and Dota instantly come to mind, as they are some of the most iconic titles the genre has ever seen. However, for those players who aren’t well-versed in Moba gaming, the barrier of entry can be jarring simply due to how inaccessible it all looks, as the games are mostly played from a traditional top-down perspective instead of a more approachable third-person Pov.
Fortunately, Omeda’s Predecessor, which is now free-to-play in its open beta phase, puts its own spin on the genre by introducing an element that isn’t usually seen in Moba games.
Step Aside, League of Legends: There’s a New Moba in Town With a Third-Person Pov

Heading Out promises to be the ultimate fantasy world for someone who has always wished to hit the road with their car and see where it takes them as they live life by their own rules. FandomWire had an up close and personal with Szymon Adamus, Business Development Manager at Serious Sim.
The Polish Development Team, Serious Sim, had previously created Radio Commander which allowed users to immerse themselves in a narrative-driven storyline where they operated as Radio Commander marshalling his troops for America in the fight against Vietnam.
Szymon Adams opened up about the team’s experience something so different in Heading Out and talked about believing that Aaa games tend to focus more on budget than the creative aspect.

With its upcoming narrative racing game Heading Out, developer Serious Sim seems to be putting its own fresh spin on the vehicular genre. When one usually thinks of racing titles, iconic franchises such as Need for Speed instantly come to mind, but there’s not much else to do other than drive the car around and win races in those games.
Fortunately, developers like Serious Sim and Ironwood, the latter being the development team behind Pacific Drive, a survival title released last month, are making sure that they try something new with the genre and possibly end up creating sub-branches of it to keep them interesting in today’s landscape.

The Fast Show co-creator Charlie Higson has claimed that Twitter is damaging new comedy.
Higson told Radio Times that many new comedy shows "aren't given a chance".
"[Comedy] gets more critical focus than any other medium," he said. "If you are watching a drama, how do you know it is good? If it is a comedy, it's whether you laugh or not.
"In many ways, the man who is the funniest is the leader of the pack - and there are plenty of people who want to undermine that person.
"Also, people pay so much attention to Twitter, things aren't given a chance."
Higson also lamented the lack of a hit sketch show in the UK since Little Britain wrapped in 2006.
"They are quite expensive to make and panel shows are also cheaper," he explained.

Ben Elton's The Wright Way and Sue Perkins's sitcom Heading Out will not be getting second series, BBC comedy boss Shane Allen has revealed.
Allen confirmed the cancellations during an appearance at a Broadcasting Press Guild lunch, according to Broadcast journalist Jake Kanter.
Elton's The Wright Way was savaged by critics when it launched earlier this year.
The Guardian said that it would have looked "badly dated in the 1970s", while The Independent billed the comedy as "occasionally so groan-inducing that you want to gather a mob with torches and pitchforks".
Perkins's Heading Out received a warmer critical response, but struggled in the ratings, falling beneath BBC Two's slot average at 10pm.
The BBC comedy team has commissioned a second series of new sitcom Count Arthur Strong and has also green-lit a new comedy from Getting On duo Jo Scanlan and Vicki Pepperdine.

Scott and Bailey is a British crime drama that just started its third season, and we should all start paying attention to it for a few reasons. For a start, it’s the most female-driven cop show I’ve ever seen, ever. (Although I’ve never actually seen Cagney & Lacey — don’t throw tomatoes at me!) It stars Lesley Sharp as Janet Scott and Suranne Jones as Rachel Bailey, both DCs (detective constables) in a fictional Manchester police unit, along with their no-nonsense boss, Gill Murray, played by Amelia Bullmore. It’s written by the fantastic Sally Wainwright (Last Tango in Halifax), and most importantly, this third series includes a recurring role played by the unstoppable Nicola Walker, recently seen as Justine in Heading Out and Gillian in Last Tango in Halifax. And while Scott and Bailey are a dream for lesbian shippers in themselves,...

Those of us who have stuck with Heading Out have often wondered what it would come down to in this final episode, wherein Sara finally gets the showdown with her parents that the entire series has been built around. A lot of folks guessed that either Sara’s parents would already know she was gay or wouldn’t be surprised; I also wondered if there would be room for the sitcom to grow once this premise was played out. And in these aspects, I have to say, well done, Sue Perkins! We were all wrong!
We start the episode with Daniel and Sara giving each other a hard time per usual at the vet office, which I actually don’t mind as much as I usually do in vet scenes, perhaps because there aren’t any distracting and ridiculous client plotlines involved this time. And maybe...

This week’s second-to-last episode of Heading Out involves no vet office (hurrah!), no Eve (boo!), but instead takes place entirely in Toria’s family home, a beautiful, historic manor where Sara is supposed to come out to Toria’s parents as a sort of trial run for her own. Because that’s a normal thing people do.
Toria’s family is, thank God, just as crazy and amazing as she is, and they begin with her mom, played by Dawn French, giving them the standard spiel about the history of the house, of which there’s the local version and then the Version For American Tourists. The local version includes things like facts; the American version involves empty, dramatic statements (“This house has been here...since Time”), and a nudge towards the gift shop. So, basically, accurate. Jamie and Justine are also along for the visit,...

Dawn French makes a guest appearance in tonight's episode of BBC Two's Heading Out.
The Sue Perkins sitcom's fifth outing sees French play Frances, the mother of Joanna Scanlan's Toria.
The episode sees Toria take Sara (Perkins) home to meet her parents, who own a historical manor house in the country.
However, when Sara plucks up the courage to come out to them, they wrongly assume that she and Toria are an item - leading to a string of awkward misunderstandings.
Scanlan previously told Digital Spy that working with French on the show was an "absolute riot".
"I've worked with Dawn a few times and she's always wonderful, warm, funny and surprising," said the actress. "She never gives you the joke that you expect. She always delivers something tickling."

Much of our fourth episode of Heading Out takes place in Sara’s vet practice, which as I’ve mentioned before tends to produce some of my least favorite bits. Yet overall, I found this episode much funnier than the last one, and a lot of that has to do with Nicola Walker.
We start with Sara and Daniel going over some inventory at the office, which includes checking off things like “Hampster Snuggle Pouch.” Again, the props, they’re good! Also, a Hampster Snuggle Pouch: that sounds pretty awesome, actually. Do they make them in human size?
I also enjoyed this:
Sara: One Supreme Gerbil Fortress, one Supreme Gerbil Palace.
Daniel: Check. Oh, hang on. No fortress.
Sara: Well, that’s fine. I’ve got the palace, so I’m happy.
Daniel: No, but they’re not the same thing. A palace is just a posh house.

In Episode Trois of Heading Out, we really start to dig into Sara’s deep neuroses, to satisfying but often frustrating degrees. There’s also a lot of French going on, to satisfying but often frustrating degrees.
We begin in Sara’s living room, where Jamie’s reading a book and Justine’s watching a quiz show on the telly — she’s sold her own TV “to save for a new DVD player” — and guessing “Dick Francis” for every answer. She assures Sara that it’ll be the right answer someday; it’s just a matter of waiting. Justine is the best. Short aside: This reminds me of when I used to frequently play Cranium with some friends, like more than most normal people play Cranium, and every time we had to sculpt something out of that purple clay one of our friends would yell, “Clay!

Whether she's playing the lovable Den in Getting On, the brilliant Terri Coverley in The Thick of It or taking a lead role as hopelessly incompetent lifestyle coach Toria in Sue Perkins's new sitcom Heading Out, Joanna Scanlan has proved herself to be one of the UK's most bankable comedy actresses.
Digital Spy caught up with Scanlan to chat about Heading Out, the future of Getting On and bullying Dot Cotton.
Was Heading Out as much fun to make as it looks?
"It was really good fun to make. It's got a lovely script that is lovable and quirky and Sue is a fantastic person to be around. She's hugely entertaining and she's got together a cast of thoroughly lovely people. Sue is like a machine with jokes, she just fires them out one after another and she's a delight to be around.

It's hard to feel charitable towards Richard Curtis's malaria drama. There was more bite in Simon Cowell's dog's dinner

Heading Out (BBC2) | iPlayer
Drama in aid of a worthy cause is not always more a pleasure than a duty, and Richard Curtis's feature-length Mary and Martha – an early curtain-raiser for Red Nose Day – was no exception. If its aim was to draw attention to the thousands of African children who die needlessly each year from malaria, all I can say is, it felt like it. I hope that doesn't sound too uncharitable. But I would have been as happy with a decent documentary as with this glossy weepie about two mums – one American, one English – having the bad luck to have a beloved son bitten to death by a mosquito in Mozambique and then...

Good afternoon and happy March! Where does the time go?
Happy birthday to Ke$ha!
Julianne Moore (The Kids Are All Right) and Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood) star in the modern version of the 1897 book-turned-movie What Maise Knew. The story is about a child “shuffled back and forth between her two divorced parents every six months.” (Ugh, it sounds so depressing.) Moore plays Susanna, an aging rock star, and Skarsgård plays her second husband.
Check out the film’s poster below.
Rumor has it Emma Watson might be starring in Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of Cinderella. If Watson signs on to be the title character she’ll have to go head to head with her Wicked Stepmother played by Cate Blanchett.
Zoe Saldana wants to play a "sexy something, like a princess from another planet...

Sue Perkins has said that she is "pissed off" with one element of Simon Cowell's new cooking show.
The Great British Bake Off host said that she doesn't mind ITV's rival show Food Glorious Food, but that she is annoyed with its use of similar bunting to her programme.
"Simon's show started this week and I'm not pissed off," she is quoted as saying in The Sun.
"But the bunting's familiar - so I'm a bit pissed off about that."
> Food Glorious Food: A tasty treat? Share your verdict
However, she added that she doesn't feel she has much chance taking on Simon Cowell as a rival.
"In a war between me and Simon, I will be doomed to failure.
"Good luck to them but can we have our bunting back?"
The BBC recently announced plans for a Bake Off spinoff show titled The Great British Sewing Bee.

This really weird thing has happened. The BBC is airing a show about a 40-year-old woman finally being pushed by her friends to come out to her parents. Sounds normal enough, but get this: it’s a comedy! Wait. Lesbians can be funny? Shut the front door, Sue Perkins!
Welcome to Heading Out, written by and starring Sue Perkins as Sara, who we first meet at her vet practice where she’s currently dealing with a pretty-dead cat and its deranged owner. We also meet her friend and co-worker Daniel, played by Steve Oram, as he’s working on this brilliant display in the lobby, a display which seals the deal that we’re going to like this show. As if we weren’t already signed onto the deal of a show with a funny lesbian vet protagonist.
Now That’S how you do a boob joke,...

Good morning and Happy Valentine's Day!
Alisha Dixon was the first out lesbian to ever make it to Hollywood on American Idol, at least that we saw. Unfortunately she was axed last night, but she could still be brought back as a wildcard.
Jillian Michaels was on Watch What Happens Live last night and she would not bang Rachel Maddow, but the actress Melissa Rauch said she definitely would. Then Jillian said she hasn't talked to Jackie Warner in years because they were "business partners." Mhm!
The gifs from the upcoming Gossip music video for "Get a Job" look pretty hilarious and amazing. I can't wait to see the final product.
Check out the new track from sisters CoCoRosie, which is "is an imagined conversation between an abandoned child and an outcast old woman.

Sue Perkins ''forgot'' to research being a vet for her new sitcom. The TV presenter and comedienne - who plays a veterinarian in BBC Two sitcom, 'Heading Out', which she also wrote - admitted that while she had intended to research the profession, she ultimately forgot to. In an interview with Reader's Digest magazine, she said: ''I set the show in a vet's surgery because it's got to be somewhere, and you do get a big range of believable characters using vets - anyone can own a gerbil. But it was mooted that I do some research, and I sort of forgot...

EastEnders legend June Brown has ruled out retiring in the foreseeable future, admitting that she "can't afford" to stop working. The 85-year-old actress recently returned to screens as Walford's Dot Branning and will soon be heading to Birmingham to narrate a concert about French singer Édith Piaf. Brown has also been confirmed as part of the cast of Heading Out, a forthcoming BBC Two sitcom starring Dawn French. Discussing her busy schedule, Brown told the Birmingham Mail: "I've always been used to doing more than one thing at once - I'm a jobbing actress. I don't say 'No, that's not good enough'. I take anything, more or less. "Anyway, I can't afford to retire. I never had the money to start a pension - I didn't start to make any real money until I was 58 - and now it's not worth (more)...

It’s been sad times in the UK lately as lesbians across the land come to terms with the fact that the continued no-news from the BBC about Lip Service is making the chance of a Series 3 look as dead in the water as Cat in the road. This is a good time to urge you to sign the petition.
In the meantime we need a bit of good news, so what if we told you that Anna Skellern (Lexy) was to play gay again in a show written by, and starring the baking hot Sue Perkins alongside Shelley Conn, who once locked lips with Laura Fraser in Nina’s Heavenly Delights? Well, this is exactly what we’re telling you. This is happening in real life.
