Is it us, or does Netflix seem to be making a concerted bid to straight-up own November? It's launching a pair of expensive-looking period-set miniseries, a long-anticipated Marvel spin-off, a sophomore run for one of the best TV cult comedies of the past 10 years and their big-league awards contender film of the year. (Consider this a warning shot for 2018, during which Netflix will spend a projected $8 billion on new original content.) Meanwhile, Hulu's getting in the Marvel business as well as sending Josh Hutcherson back in time, while Amazon unveils...

This past summer was a memorable one for fans of Konami's video game franchise Castlevania. In addition to the release of a new four-episode animated series adaptation of the video games on Netflix, the streaming service also renewed the series for an eight-episode second season, and viewers of the show were treated to a story that took an R-rated approach to violence and a bold path with its storytelling. One of the creative forces behind the new series is Adi Shankar (executive producer of films such as Dredd and The Grey) and I had the opportunity to talk with the filmmaker about collaborating with Sam Deats and Warren Ellis, the freedom of working with Netflix, and much more.
Thanks so much for taking some time to talk with me and congratulations on Castlevania. I wrapped up watching the first season and I absolutely loved it.
Adi Shankar: Amazing, amazing.

Producer Adi Shankar has re-interpreted Power Rangers, Judge Dredd and, most recently, Castlevania. Now he has his sights on the rap battle.

Fantastic Four has not fared well so far in the movie world. Marvel's original first family, and Stan Lee's favourite creation, has been developed twice by Fox who have the rights to the series and its characters. It would be fair to say that neither of these efforts has struck a chord with fans, in fact the latest offering in 2015 is frankly an awful film and has seemingly wrecked the career of director Josh Trank, losing him the Star Wars Boba Fett directing gig in the process (though to be fair, his behavior was also a big part of that loss).
For Fox to hold onto the rights of these characters they must make movies, no matter how bad they are it seems. Fan's have long wished for them to allow the rights to revert back to Marvel/Disney in order for the characters, and villains, to be used within the McU. One universal truth is that Dr. Doom is one of Marvel greatest villains, and yet Fox have so far shown a complete misunderstanding of the character they have the rights to.

It now seems like Fox are planning to dip their toes in the well again. Bleeding Cool has heard from sources that Fox are getting ready for another shot, but with a completely different approach this time.
The outlet says that Seth Grahame-Smith has been hired to write the screenplay. Smith already has some history with this franchise, as he scripted a pass at the most recent Fantastic Four movie before Josh Trank decided to write his own screenplay instead. The outlet also says they have been told the focus for this reboot will be more kid friendly in the vein of The Incredibles, which is interesting. Many people have commented that The Incredibles is actually the best Fantastic Four movie to be released as it captures the spirit of the comic books so well. Apparently this new take will focus on telling the story through the eyes of the children of Reed and Sue Richards, Franklin and Valeria Richards, but Human Torch and Thing will be present as well. We can only assume this also means a full recast, the cast of the latest effort are far too young for this scenario, and the tonal change would be too stark to buy for audiences. I also don't think Fox would want any new movie to be associated with that disastrous effort.
If true, it's an interesting approach to take, as long as it doesn't get too campy, like the Chris Evans starring original attempts at cracking this franchise. Most importantly, can they finally deliver a Dr. Doom that lives up to the iconic status he earned in the comics? If it does not work out, Fox are free to give me a call as I have a really good outline for a Fantastic Four movie (I won't hold my breath), and if they mess up this third attempt, then frankly, "It's clobberin' time."
What do you guys think? Happy for them to take another shot, or do you just wish they'd give up and let Marvel have the characters back? Let us know in the comments down below.

Producer Adi Shankar has been in the news a lot lately. The Dredd and Lone Survivor producer is currently developing a dark hardcore animated adaptation of the classic video game Castlevania for Netflix. He's also said to be in talks to direct Sony Pictures' upcoming Venom movie.
During an interview with Wwg, Shankar talked about his passion for video games saying:
“Yes, I’m a massive gamer and at some point, I’m going to start live streaming myself wrecking fools online. If I’m not a fan of something and I don’t organically understand what is cool about it, then I’m simply not going to get involved. Even though I have one foot in the door in Hollywood, I’m not trying to rape and pillage culture for profit. I’m trying to take the things I loved as a kid and bring them to life in an interesting way.

Well, now the producer of the dark and violent reimagining of the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” Adi Shankar, wants to make the film adaptation of the classic “Mega Man” video game franchise. “I’d love to do a hard-r ‘Mega Man,'” Shankar said in an interview with Wwg.

Disclaimer: This post contains spoilers for the most recent episode of Arrow.
I've been with Arrow since the very start; through the good, the bad, and Season 4 too. Arrow has (arbuably) returned to form in Season 5, yet it has still failed to fix its most glaring narrative flaw: Arrow has too-long lived in the Batman's shadow. However, after the revelations expressed in last week's pivotal "Kapiushon" episode, the series might finally be establishing itself as something truly different -- whether that's good or bad depends entirely upon where it goes from here.
The strongest argument against Arrow having a distinct identity, beyond anything but a poor-man's Batman, has resided in the forced duality of Oliver Queen and Green Arrow, played by Stephen Amell. Similiar to the Wayne/Bat paradox, we've endured four and half seasons of the same tired, clichéd premise that these are somehow separate characters, each following differents paths,...

I went into the whole idea of a Power Rangers movie with some hard skepticism. It’s a film based on one of the campiest, cheesiest properties known to mankind — a property that doesn’t exactly hold up when actually looked at with a critical eye. This doesn’t make it the easiest thing to bring to the big screen. Heck, they tried doing that back in the 1990s, when the franchise was in its heyday, and despite the good ol’ college try they gave the film, it didn’t really do a whole lot of business.
So could they possibly succeed in this new Power Rangers adaptation? That certainly remains to be seen, but from the trailers Lionsgate has released thus far, it’s possible. Rather than try to deviate too far from the source material, or to stick to close to it, they seem to have found a solid middle ground.

Looks like that long-rumored Castlevania TV show may just see the light of day after all.
Amid programming updates for The Oa, Orange is the New Black, Iron Fist and Bill Nye Saves the World, today’s status report from Netflix revealed that Castlevania Season 1, Part 1 is coming in 2017. Details are scarce at the moment, but if nothing else, long-time fans of the horror-tinged video game classic can look forward to the Belmont family slicing and dicing their way onto Netflix sometime this year.
Common logic dictates that this new spin on Castlevania is the same one in the works from Frederator Networks (Adventure Time) and producer Adi Shankar. The latter came attached to the project soon after helming a Power Rangers short that went viral – incidentally, Shankar is also producing Lionsgate’s upcoming live-action feature film – and previously described the animated show as a “super-violent Castlevania miniseries.”

The man behind several gritty adaptations of 80s and 90s cultural touchstones now has one of that era’s top video game franchises in his sights. Adi Shankar, known for his work within the Dredd universe and for his 2014 Power Rangers fan film, will work with Fred Seibert’s Frederator Studios to bring an animated version of Castlevania to Netflix.
Castlevania, which has spanned more than 40 titles since releasing its first installment in 1986, follows an unyielding war that pits Dracula and his monstrous minions against the intrepid vampire hunters of the Belmont family. Castlevania games are typically action-packed, bloody, and gothic, qualities that mesh well with the style Shankar has displayed in his previous work (and, to an extent, in his fashion sense). The Netflix series will be set in an alternate version of the 1980s, which will allow Shankar to flex his nostalgia muscles as well. Even the show’s voice cast,...

The Power Rangers film has been rated PG-13. The rating was confirmed during the recent CES expo in Las Vegas [via Power Rangers Now]. Those still grasping at straws for an R-rated adaptation will just have to rewatch the dark Power/Rangers short film from Adi Shankar's Bootleg Universe. According to Variety, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Erik Feig was "particularly optimistic about “Power Rangers,” which opens on March 24, noting that the first trailer generated more than 150 million views in its first 48 hours." Lionsgate definitely appears to be on the cusp of a complete turnaround with La La Land poised to sweep Awards Season and Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge also earning high praise. They could certainly use a win after the year which saw The Divergent franchise implode and Gods of Egypt bomb at the box office. Official Synopsis: Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something...

Welcome to The Top 5, where every week, we list five things for a given topic. These topics can range from "5 Things We Liked About The Power Rangers Teaser Trailer" to "5 Things We Want (Or Don't Want) In Ben Affleck's The Batman."
Of course, because everyone has an opinion, there is sure to be some disagreements, which is why, despite the title "The Top 5," very rarely are these actual "best of" articles. Instead, they're meant to provide entertaining insight, and to stir a discussion, and give everyone a chance to speak their mind.
If you have a suggestion for a Top 5 piece, send them my way via #TheTop5LRM on Twitter. If I choose your topic, I'll be sure to give you a shoutout!

Who’s ready for the fifth installment of the Transformers movie franchise? Okay whether you are or not the trailer is here and ready to view.
Ah yes that time every two to three years when I watch a trailer for Transformers and try to forget whatever thoughts I had on the last one in hopes of a brighter future. And as the official Cinelinx expert on all things giant robot and Super Sentai/ Power Rangers related it’s my duty to report on this. Here we go, let’s watch.
Anthony Hopkins raises a question I’ve been asking since the third film: Why the hell is everything Cybertron related on Earth? We see a few shots of Megatron, too many of Mark Wahlberg, and a few new bots. But wait, Optimus went bad? What! I guess this is relating back to that poster where we saw his eyes were actually purple.

A major character tap-dances off into the sunset on this week’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. How’s Rebecca going to cope?
This review contains spoilers.

2.4 When Will Josh And His Friend Leave Me Alone?
…And that’s a wrap for Santino Fontana.
Yup, despite Rebecca’s most dramatic efforts to persuade him to stay, Greg got on his plane. He’s jetting off to Atlanta, to the school of his dreams, to a new AA mentor, and, presumably, to some kind of happy ending. Not for the first time, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend proves it knows all the rules of romantic comedy, and isn’t going to play by a single one of them. We’re four episodes in, and the Josh-Rebecca-Greg triangle we were primed to expect a whole season’s worth of drama from has been smashed into tiny,...

The Simpsons seasons 29 and 30 will make TV history. The classic animated series is still showing strong ratings averaging 7.2 million viewers a week, so Fox has decided to renew it to 669 episodes, the largest number of episodes for any scripted television series in the history of primetime American telly. The record is currently held by the western series Gunsmoke.

"Take that Gunsmoke!,” Homer Simpson said in a statement from Fox. “You lost a race you didn't even know you were running!"
