Upon its first broadcast on French TV, the film was watched by 4.9 million viewers (or 20% of the viewing audience), coming first in the prime time TV ratings, a rare feat for channel France 3.
Writer/Director Bénédicte Delmas spent ten years trying to get the film made, first learning about the story of the Plessis institution by reading a biography of philosopher Simone de Beauvoir in 2006.
Writer/Director Bénédicte Delmas initially tried to get in touch with former members of the institution depicted in the film but was unable to find any, all of them having moved and changed their surnames through marriage.
On its initial French airing, the film was followed by a debate on underage motherhood, moderated by Carole Gaessler.
