Hilary Duff might have been only a little kid, but her music video for WHY NOT was one of the first music videos I ever owned on DVD, as it was included on THE LIZZIE MCGUIRE MOVIE,which was among my early purchases. It's not easy collecting music videos on DVD, the ones you want, aren't available. And you have to buy those compilation sets often filled with other artists you'd prefer not to associate with. So, a big thank you to the compilers of the DVD for THE LIZZIE MCGUIRE MOVIE, very generous. Gee, fortunately most of Hilary's early work was released on DVD, and this one I got there as well.
Really pretty innocent kid, Disney starlet, doing her cute song, apparently from a rooftop. Very young, not even sweet sixteen yet, holding a lot of promise... Okay, she has many detractors, and her career didn't work out as it should have had, but gee, ain't she just the cutest thing?
Of course, her other work is much better than this very early offering, so that's why this one doesn't have such a high score from me. But it sure brings back fond memories.
The song is sweet and she is absolutely adorable. There is a whole generation of kids who had her as a heroine. Me myself, old boy. But just glad to have witnessed her. Something pure, reminiscent of better times, before all these bad influences in music today. Hey, Hilary was actually an anachronism even back then.
