Shah Rukh Khan blockbuster “Jawan” has crossed the $100 million box office milestone.

The film has now grossed $103 million worldwide, according to numbers released by producers Red Chillies Entertainment. In India, the film has grossed $68.5 million.

“Jawan” is now the second highest Indian grosser of the year after “Pathaan,” also starring Khan, which released in January and concluded its run with $130 million. Sunny Deol’s “Gadar 2” now occupies the third spot with $82 million, while Rajinikanth’s “Jailer” is fourth with $76.6 million.

With $17.7 million, “Jawan” was the third highest grossing film in the world over the weekend, according to numbers from Comscore, with “The Nun II” occupying the top spot with $44.8 million and “A Haunting in Venice” with $37.2 million.

Directed by Atlee, “Jawan,” featuring Khan in a dual role as a father and son who set out to rectify corruption in Indian society, opened on Sept. 7 and shattered the star’s own Bollywood opening day record.

Actress Alia Bhatt shared some precious behind-the-scenes moments with her husband Ranbir Kapoor and the cast of ‘Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva’ as the film completed one year of its release. The film, which stars Alia, Ranbir, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy, clocked one year on Saturday.

Alia took to Instagram, where she shared a video consisting of precious behind-the-scenes moments during the making of the film.

The clip begins with the film’s director Ayan Mukerji showing Alia how to enact a scene in which she is supposed to hug Ranbir from behind. However, while doing the scene, the actress and director burst into laughter.

It then pans to photographs featuring Ranbir and Alia’s first look test, trip to Tel Aviv and prep of the movie. There is also a funny picture of Ranbir sitting, wrapped in multiple towels with ‘someone just hated the rain sequence’ written on it.

As his film ‘Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva’ completed one year in Hindi cinema on Saturday, filmmaker Ayan Mukerji debunked all rumours of the franchise getting shelved and said that the second and third installments of Brahmastra are “in progress.”

There were rumours doing the rounds that parts two and three of Ayan’s dream project have been shelved.

Bollywood A-lister Alia Bhatt will become the first woman to headline a film in leading Indian studio Yash Raj Films’ spy universe, Variety has learned.

The film, where Bhatt is due to play a “super agent,” will commence production in 2024, Variety understands.

Bhatt is one of India’s top actors who had a stellar 2022. “Gangubai Kathiawadi,” in which she played the central, title role, had its world premiere as a Berlinale gala screening, was a box office success and was the #1 non-English film and the #1 film in 25 countries on Netflix globally. “Rrr,” in which she was one of the leads, was one of the biggest Indian hits of the year and went on to win an Oscar and a Golden Globe.

Yash Raj Films has released a trailer for much anticipated Bollywood film “Pathaan,” starring superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham.

After a dismal 2022 where flops far outnumbered hits among Hindi-language films, and which ended with the box office failure of Ranveer Singh’s “Cirkus” on which Bollywood analysts were resting their revival hopes, “Pathaan” is the first flag bearer for the beleaguered industry for 2023.

“Pathaan” is also the comeback film for Khan, known as one of the great romantic stars of Bollywood. Some of his last few films have underperformed at the box office and his most recent release as a solo hero was “Zero” in 2018. He has since had cameos in “Laal Singh Chaddha” and “Brahmastra Part One: Shiva.”

Countering the notion gaining ground that people are no longer showing up at cinema theatres, Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Joint Managing Director, PVR Limited, says the business has regained 75-80 per cent of the pre-pandemic footfalls.

Bijli was speaking on the occasion of PVR Cinemas reaching the milestone of 900 screens in 78 cities in a corporate journey that spans 25 years. He admitted that “the last three quarters have been a bit confusing for Bollywood films”, but the overall picture has “not been dismal at all”.

Compared to the two pandemic-hit years when cinemas were shut and exhibitors feared people wouldn’t ever return for the big-screen experience, Bijli said, “getting people out of the house and into the cinemas was no small achievement”.

Looking ahead, he said people would come back in greater numbers because they have shopped, socialised and travelled enough, and made up for the time and opportunities they lost during the pandemic.

Produces Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar’s T-Series, Murad Khetani’s Cine1 Studios and Pranay Reddy Vanga’s Bhadrakali Pictures have unveiled the first look poster for “Animal,” starring popular Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor.

The film is in the crime drama genre and promises to portray Kapoor in a never before seen avatar. Plot details are under wraps. It is directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who debuted with 2017 Telugu-language hit “Arjun Reddy,” starring Vijay Deverakonda. Vanga remade the film in the Hindi-language as “Kabir Singh,” starring Shahid Kapoor, which was one of the blockbusters of 2019.

India’s Central Board of Film Certification (Cbfc) has “advised changes” to Yash Raj Films’ “Pathaan,” the comeback film of superstar Shah Rukh Khan that also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham.

Controversy erupted in India on Dec. 12 when the song “Besharam Rang” – literally shameless color – was released. A segment of the song features Padukone in orange colored swimwear and Khan in a green shirt. Hindi cinema heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor travelled to the Red Sea Film Festival on Wednesday to receive the Variety International Vanguard Actor Award, in tribute to his career achievements – from his debut performance in “Saawariya” to his lead roles in two big-budget films released this year, “Shamshera” and “Brahmastra Part One: Shiva.” He is currently filming gangster pic “Animal,” by Sandeep Reddy Vang, and took a one-day break to fly to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where the festival takes place. After the onstage interview, several audience members asked questions, including a boy in his early teens, who broke into song, prompting the entire audience to sing along, with the actor visibly moved. New Delhi, Dec 7 (Ians) Google India on Wednesday revealed the most searched queries, events, personalities and much more in ‘Year in Search 2022’ results, in which the Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Brahmastra’ was the most searched movie in the country.

“If 2021 saw people taking their first guarded steps into a post-pandemic era, 2022 marked the year we bounced back stronger in many ways.” the tech giant said in a statement.

The Red Sea Film Festival and Variety will be partners on two new awards: the Intl. Vanguard Filmmaker Award, which will go to Nadine Labaki, and the Intl. Vanguard Actor Award, which goes to Ranbir Kapoor.

An actor, director, musician and activist, Labaki has carved a distinctive path on the international film circuit. As a child, she would spend hours at a small theater run by her grandfather, in the dark but never alone, lit by the images flickering on screen. Lebanese writer-director and actor Nadine Labaki and Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor are set to be honored with Variety International Vanguard Awards at the upcoming second edition of Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival.

Labaki’s first feature, “Caramel,” was set in a Beirut beauty salon, and premiered in the Cannes Director’s Fortnight section in 2007, followed by “Where Do We Go Now?,” in which Christians and Muslim villagers coexist in an uneasy peace. The latter film was in Un Certain Regard in 2011. Labaki has gained prominence with works that highlight aspects of everyday life in Lebanon.
