Is this the end?
Post or rather pre apocalyptic movies can be quite interesting and intriguing. Jean Reno seems a bit wasted in this and I get if you are more annoyed by the movie rather than engaged by it. Having said that, the cinematography of the movie is quite something to behold.
So technically speaking there is something to see here - no pun intended. The main character has his moments too and there will be blood and violence. So while the overall story may be simple, I would surprised if you'd think this is something to be watched by kids. On the other hand, I reckon if you don't have an issue with them playing Call of Duty and whatnot, I guess it makes sense to you.
That aside, the movie has some ups and downs and some ideas that work and some that don't. Let's hope the end of the world is not upon us - although this seems to be more interesting than the debates you have now with Corona surging again and people either still not accepting reality or getting lost in conspiracies ...

A visually stunning sci-fi journey
"The Last Journey of Paul W. R." is set in a post-apocalyptic world on the brink of destruction as the "Red Moon," a massive celestial body, is about to collide with Earth. There's only one man who can save the planet by piloting a rocket loaded with nuclear bombs into this planet-sized object. But just days before the mission, the chosen man, Paul W. R., goes missing.
Visually, this film is stunning, especially considering its modest budget. The director used the budget wisely, creating breathtaking scenes with a unique artistic touch. The blend of futuristic technology and hyperrealistic visuals makes the movie look impressive without feeling cheap at any point.
The main cast includes four key characters: Paul, who's supposed to carry out the mission but decides to run away; his brother, who has always been in Paul's shadow; their eccentric father, who is responsible for the mission and obsessed with destroying the Red Moon; and young Elma, a girl from a broken family who befriends Paul and helps him escape. Both Paul and Elma share a common bond of growing up without their mothers.
The film focuses on the growing friendship between Paul and Elma and the tension between Paul and his brother, who is chasing them. Both brothers have some paranormal abilities. Paul's visions give him glimpses of the future, hinting that something might be off with the mission. Meanwhile, his brother uses his powers destructively.
At its core, the movie explores people trying to deal with the challenges of dysfunctional families and the need to mature, regardless of their age. The characters are trying to escape from their past, but they're forced to face reality, even with the looming cosmic threat. It's a story about friendship, trust, and sacrifice.
Although the movie isn't fast-paced, it's relatively short, and the time passes quickly. I never felt bored and was eager to see how things would unfold. While the ending was a bit predictable, it was still satisfying. I'd recommend this film to sci-fi fans.

Children's Movie...
Hugo Becker and Jean Reno are very good actors. But I didn't like this movie at all. The movie was a TV movie for children aged 8-12. You won't lose anything if you don't watch it.

absolutely uninteresting
One extra star for visual effects. That's essentially it.
You get the feeling french film makers wanted to make an American road trip movie with pseudo action-based sci-fi plot. Except why would we want French cinema to copy American cinema? This is neither a road movie, nor an action-based sci-fi film. It's just a cheap imitation, that fails to entertain in absolutely every way. Filled with mindless clichés and the likes.
I couldn't finish this.

A waste of time!
I really don't understand why people do movies like this. A total disappointment plus a waste of time and money...not even worth the electricity of the TV :) really!

Wasted time
There are a few french science fiction movies that are good. But not this one.
Bad acting, clichés, things that have been ripped off other movies (No country for old men, Armageddon, Melancholia...) Unlikely things that would make SF fans hurl... almost made me laugh.

I liked it, but my husband hated it.
Very unique film I saw on Hulu. It said 15 min, but it was 90 minutes. I read later there was a short film in 2017 called THE LAST JOURNEY OF THE ENIGMATIC PAUL WR, 17min, France, Sci-Fi/Fantasy. Directed by Romain Quirot. When we realized it was not the 15 minute long short sci-fi movie we expected I continued to watch it and my husband played on his phone.
So though My husband disliked it, I like French Films and their unique way of telling a story and beautiful cinematography. My husband says that the film was not able to keep his attention and he was bored. Yes, some plot holes, yes some very fuzzy science, but I liked it.

nice setting but boooooooring
The setting is well made hinting at a post-apocalyptic world a bit like the "fallout" game, only with a destructive red moon added for space flavour.
However, that's where the fun ends.
The slow-paced (boring!) unmenacing and humdrum atmosphere does not match the setting's potential.
Instead, random robot soldiers (making annoying noises) and drones are stationed around randomly protecting a derelict society against no particular menace(??), and boringly chasing the "hero". The antagonist is one-dimensional and doesn't really clash against the hero or create meaningful or interesting conflict. Nor is there any discernable plot, with random family flashbacks, and nothing really happening. The story just patters along and along... until the viewer falls asleep or checks the news on teh phone. Yawn!

Bad trip
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
This is the worst movie I have seen and I saw Plan 9 From Outer-space. The dialog is painfully difficult to follow, the plot is obscure and the characters are shallow. After watching the movie for an hour and a half I still do not know why the main character was running away. I believe it is a French? Movie dubbed in English and it must have lost a lot in translation. The sound track is horrid and the only reason I watched to the end is that I thought that it had to get better...I was wrong. Usually if a movie is this bad, one can find humor in it, but I could not. IMBD had a 5.1 rating for this movie so I assume the cast all had large families. I gave this movie 1 star because I was not sure they would accept zero stars.
If Mystery Science Theater 3000 is still around you can look for it there.

An unusual Sci-Fi film - It's French, y'all!
First and foremost - this film was visually stunning. The CGI work was second to none. I read all the reviews and only one mentioned this outstanding part of the film.
The story was, to me, unusual, and did have some holes in it. That's okay - it's Sci-Fi!!
If nothing else, it was a great study of a screwed up family. Elliott, the older brother in this, was one creepy guy.
The science made no sense to me, but it never does - in real life and time or in films, so I just went along with the story and the science. It's called literary license, people!
So if you want to watch a Sci-Fi film that just a bit left of center and beautifully shot - this should be your choice.

Brillant
As a french person, this film will be special for me because it was the first movie i saw in theaters since the pandemic. I did not saw the short film which inspired the movie but i saw plenty of science fiction films and blade runner, which was a huge influence on this film.
Hugo Becker plays a stoic but endaring protagonist to perfection and his alchemy with Lya Oussadit-Lessert is one of the strong points of the movie, Jean Reno, with his sole presence, adds a lot of gravitas and drama, Paul Hamy is mesmerizing and Philippe Katerine complete this cast with his touch of comedy he master so well.
The visual effects are outstanding for an independant film. The cinematography and directing were one of the best directings I saw in a french movie in a long time with beautiful crafted shots, The screenplay is simple but very philosophical and allows the spectator to enter this world with ease, the production design is on point and the music, very reminscent of Blade Runner 2049, is a treat.
Bref, si des francophones passent par ici, allez voir ce film, c'est la preuve cinématographique de ce que la France fait de mieux en termes de science-fiction.

A good surprise
I finally had the possibility to go to cinema after a long time (Pandemic context).
I haven't seen anything about it except a few seconds about the "Red Moon" and the fact that it was French SF. With no expectations about this film, I've let it carry me through this futuristic world.
Without noticing certain rather surprising facts that make the main characters really "solid" with the events they face (the halo of the main characters), the film is nevertheless carried by a certain realism of actions. The immersion was all the more great.
I strongly recommend !

Extraordinaire !
Belle façon de retourner dans les salles. Un film qui sort de l'ordinaire, une proposition osée mais ça marche. Un kiffe!

Vanilla Sky kisses No Country for old man ...
... and Interstellar with a hint of Thorn, ...
A phantastic road trip with a lot of interesting ideas and influences from various films. I am asking me if this was intended?
Is the story real? Or everything the vision of a traumatized child? Why can only he be the savior?
You can't skip 10sec without loosing track. How can anyone find this film boring? It also nothing for childs, as it is way to complex. Each character has a different meaning in this psychological sci fi drama.
Great play by Hugo Becker and Lya Oussadit-Lessert. Guest Starring Jean Reno. Killing play by Paul Hamy.
Lay back, open a bottle of wine and melt into the psychedelic road trip to save the world.
French Masterpiece.
