It's not often I have given nine stars but this mini series of three episodes absolutely deserves them all. The programmes incorporated human drama, love, the underworld, high crimes and misdemeanours, corruption. It managed to weave all these themes into a single coherent whole.
The plot is complicated but the scriptwriters did a fantastic job of making it easy to follow. At the same time, there was a real tension in each episode as lives spun out of control and characters were teetering on the edge.
It's true in any cover up that there will always be a chink. This story showed how one person tried to cover the chinks up and another to reveal them. Alongside this were deft touches showing human fallibility as not all that it seemed to be.
Vengeance, cronyism, power and covering up led to a conclusion of the series that was satisfying for the imagination. Nothing was as it seemed to be and there were surprises right up to the final minutes and seconds.
I can't praise this enough. I watched it all in the space of a few hours, just pausing to cook and deal with email. The actors played their parts convincingly, showing the moral dilemmas they were struggling with as true to life. I strongly recommend this.
