Following the high-profile firing of the popular animated series’ showrunner, X-Men ’97 season 2 won’t be landing next year as expected.
X-Men ’97 is one of the rare things to emerge from Marvel Studios these days: a production met with universal acclaim. The show delighted fans of the original X-Men cartoon while picking up lots of new admirers too. The show was even nominated for an Emmy, as well as earning plenty of strong reviews.
However, behind the scenes, things have been running less smoothly. Series showrunner, Beau DeMayo was fired by Marvel just weeks before the new show aired and after penning all of season 2. DeMayo deleted his social media accounts and no reason was publicly announced regarding his departure. Then, a third season has now been confirmed too, with news breaking back in June that Matthew Chauncey, the writer behind 3Below: Tales Of Arcadia was coming in to take over writing duties.

Following the high-profile firing of Beau DeMayo, Marvel Animation has a new writer on board to pen the third series of X-Men ’97.
Marvel Studios has struggled in lots of ways over the past couple of years, but its animation division has gone from strength to strength. The release of its What If…? series marked a real high point for the studio, but its fortunes peaked even higher with this year’s X-Men ’97.
The series – which revives the long-dormant 1990s X-Men animated show has received almost universal praise from critics. Mere weeks before its release, however, Marvel announced that it had fired the creator of the series, Beau DeMayo. The timing of DeMayo’s departure made plenty of waves at the time, not least because of X-Men ’97’s success and also because he was a regular writer for the company, having worked on live action shows such as...

Back in March 2023, the news broke that filmmaker Guillermo del Toro was in the midst of casting a new film version of "Frankenstein" that he was slated to write and direct. At the time, it was said that Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth were set to star and that Andrew Garfield was to play the Monster. According to actor Doug Jones (who has worked with del Toro on several feature films), the director had long been at work on a "Frankenstein" movie that was meant to visually resemble Bernie Wrightson's "Frankenstein," a heavily illustrated printing of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel made by Marvel Comics back in 1983. At the time of Jones' comments, however, he was slated to play the Monster himself, as the actor commented on what "my look" would have been. That Wrightson-inspired version eventually evolved into the version mentioned above, which is being produced for Netflix.

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has been making a home for himself and his various projects at Netflix with a string of CGI animated shows such as “Trollhunters,” “3Below,” and “Wizards.” Continuing that passion for animation, del Toro has teamed with “Fantastic Mr. Fox” animation director Mark Gustafson for “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.” The project will bring to life these classic fairy tale characters via stop-motion animation and will separate itself from the Disney incarnations with a darker tone and aesthetic.

Diego Luna, best known for his roles in "Narcos" and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," may have made a big name for himself in Hollywood, but he still considers Mexico home. Born and raised there, Diego married his then-wife Camila Sodi in Mexico City in 2008 before they moved to the US. They share two children together, Fiona and Jerónimo Luna, but divorced in 2013. Pinocchio is coming to life. A new trailer for director Guillermo del Toro’s animated film version of the classic tale has been released by Netflix.
“From my many wanderings on this earth, I had so much to say about imperfect fathers and imperfect sons,” Ewan McGregor’s Sebastian J. Cricket narrates at the start of the trailer. “I want to tell you a story. It’s a story you may think you know, but you don’t — the story of the wooden boy.”
The trailer, which follows the first teaser footage from January, reveals footage of lonely woodcutter Geppetto’s (David Bradley) creation of Pinocchio (Gregory Mann) and the puppet boy’s adventures alongside his creator.
The film marks del Toro’s first feature animated effort, bringing his protective love of features’ creatures to the classic fable. The film relocates the tale to the time period of the 1930s,...

How much of the journey is worth it when you’re scratching your head at the destination? That’s the question one must confront in Guillermo del Toro’s Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans.
Originating from the book series created by del Toro and Daniel Kaus, 2016 series Trollhunters kicked off Tales of Arcadia as part of Netflix’s quest to produce original animation for children. You don’t go into Trollhunters and its two series successors, 3Below and Wizards, expecting form-breaking storytelling for Western children’s cartoons, but each series had plenty to offer: Del Toro’s colorful realms with their own mythology, slapstick one-liners in the midst of swordplay, and colorful creatures from lovable Aaarrrgghh (Fred Tatasciore) to the paternal Blinky (Kelsey Grammar) with his teacher bravado.

In 2016, Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro first announced his plans with DreamWorks to produce the animated series “Trollhunters” in a presentation at the Annecy Animation Festival. Now, five years later, he returns – although virtually – to discuss the franchise’s feature film finale “Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans,” and share a trailer ahead of its July 21 Netflix premiere.
In a pre-recorded Dreamworks Studio Focus presentation posted on Tuesday morning, Del Toro was joined by producer Chad Hammes and directors Francisco Ruiz Velasco, Johane Matte and Andrew L. DreamWorks Animation comes to the Annecy Animation Festival again on a wave of success: last spring, despite the pandemic and theater closures, “Trolls World Tour” hit a limited number of venues but really hit big on-demand, while “Croods: A New Age” reaped pent-up demand at theaters in the fall and winter as venues opened around the world. Its TV animation unit boasts buzzy hits such as “Trollhunters,” “Tales of Arcadia: Wizards” and “3Below: Tales of Arcadia” from Guillermo del Toro, “Voltron Legendary Defender,” “She-Ra,” “Spirit Riding Free” as well as spinoffs from “Madagascar,” “Fast and Furious,” “Kung Fu Panda” and ‘How to Train Your Dragon.”

“Wizards,” premiering Aug. 7 on Netflix, marks the culmination of Guillermo del Toro’s animated “Tales of Arcadia” triptych of TV series that includes “Trollhunters” and “3Below.” The DreamWorks Animation production follows wizard trainee Douxie, voiced by Colin O’ Donaghue, on an epic adventure that sees him and friends Jim (Emile Hirsch), Claire (Lexi Medrano) and Steve (Steven Yeun) travel in time to Camelot, among other wondrous worlds.

You’re welcome, America. Yesterday, Den of Geek put Dreamworks and Netflix’s feet to the fire, requesting…nay, demanding that their animated adventure story Tales of Arcadia not end with the third installment, Wizards.

And just under 24 hours later, both corporate entities caved! Dreamworks and Netflix announced today that the Tales of Arcadia saga is getting a grand movie finale. Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans is set to premiere sometime in 2021.
“Team Trollhunters committed, about a decade ago, to try and push the boundaries of 3D CGI animation made for TV. We outlined a vast trilogy of interconnecting mythology and characters that we always hoped could culminate with a massive ‘all-stars reunion’,” creator and executive producer Guillermo del Toro said in a statement.
