The return of a reality TV monster that’s sure to dominate social media conversation; Charlie and Nick’s blossoming romance; a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the NBA courtesy of LeBron James and Anthony Edwards; the latest gem from an action auteur; Tyler Perry’s first Netflix television drama and another helping espionage and drama from Keri Russell are some of the highlights among the new films and series hitting Netflix in October.

Fall is here, which means it’s time to bundle up on your couch and stream the weekend away. Let’s get into it: There’s plenty to enjoy in October on Netflix, from a new Ali Wong special to new seasons of shows like “Love Is Blind” and “Unsolved Mysteries.” The real unsolved mystery is how it feels like there is more “Love Is Blind” dropping every month, but I digress.
October also brings with it the chance to watch Season 1 of “Yellowjackets” (a Showtime hit) for the first time on the Netflix platform, as well as more “Outer Banks” and “The Lincoln Lawyer.” The best bet, however, is the return of Keri Russell.
Top Pick: “The Diplomat” Season 2
Russell returns as U.S. ambassador to the U.K. Kate Wyler in this “The Americans” meets “Homeland” Emmy-nominated hit. Season 1 ended with a massive cliffhanger, so the six-episode Season...

‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ is a spin-off of ‘A Quiet Place’, a 2018 thriller directed by John Krasinski, who also stars in the film alongside his wife, Emily Blunt. The spin-off is a prequel to the first film, following the arrival of aliens on Earth and the ruin of society as a result of the invasion. Before the frightening events experienced by Evelyn and Lee (John Krasinski and Emily Blunt) in the previous films, the world was not dominated by aliens. Sam (Lupita Nyong'o) was among the humans accustomed to the noises of a metropolis like New York City, until the moment she witnesses the arrival of the creatures on planet Earth and the resulting massacre before her eyes. Now, she, Eric (Joseph Quinn), Henri (Djimon Hounsou) and Reuben (Alex Wolff), along with her cat and other survivors, will need to learn to survive with these monster-aliens that orient themselves...

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse's remake of disturbing Danish horror film Speak No Evil is now in theaters, and, as you've probably heard, this new version makes some signifiant changes to the ending of the relentlessly bleak original.
Spoilers follow.
Both movies have the same premise and play out very similarly up to a point: A family of three befriend a seemingly gregarious doctor and his wife and son while on vacation and agree to go and stay with them for the weekend. After some increasingly strange behaviour, the friendly facade begins to slip, and it soon becomes clear that something is very wrong in the household.
It ultimately comes to light that the "doctor" and his wife are deranged serial killers who rob and murder couples with children, before rendering the kid mute and forcing them to pretend to be their son or daughter to gain an advantage when enticing new victims.

Ten years ago, Scoot McNairy’s first collaboration with Mackenzie Davis on Halt and Catch Fire had just completed its first season on AMC, and the “little drama that could” gradually became both a critical darling and cult hit. Set in the personal computing and internet revolutions of the ‘80s and ‘90s, McNairy’s Gordon Clark and Davis’ Cameron Howe played computer geniuses who had great respect for each other’s intellects, and together with their impermanent romantic and business partners of Kerry Bishé’s Donna Clark and Lee Pace’s Joe MacMillan, the quartet’s interpersonal relationships continuously evolved amid the ever-changing landscape of the industry they helped shape.
McNairy and Davis’ characters often had a very brother-and-sister dynamic, so the Halt fan base was rocked when James Watkin’s Speak No Evil dropped its first trailer last April, unveiling McNairy and Davis’ married couple of Ben and Louise Dalton.

Speak No Evil is a meticulously crafted psychological thriller that marks the reunion of Mackenzie Davis and Scoot McNairy. Last working together on the critically acclaimed series Halt and Catch Fire, they bring their powerful on-screen chemistry to the roles of Louise and Ben Dalton, an American couple thrust into a nightmare scenario.
Directed by James Watkins and produced by Blumhouse, the studio known for suspenseful hits like The Black Phone, Get Out, and The Invisible Man, the film benefits from a strong ensemble cast that also includes James McAvoy and Aisling Franciosi.
The story begins when Louise (Davis) and Ben Dalton (McNairy) and their daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler) accept an invitation from Paddy (McAvoy), Ciara (Franciosi), and their son Ant (Dan Hough) to spend the weekend at their countryside estate. Having met the British family while on holiday in Italy, the Daltons initially see them as ideal hosts.

Halloween Horror Nights 2024 advertises itself as home to a ground-breaking haunted house incorporating American Sign Language (Asl) “for the very first time.”
That’s a tough claim to prove considering the scope of the country’s Halloween scene and the countless underground attractions hidden therein. But at least at Universal Studios’ mega-popular annual event, the new “A Quiet Place” experience is indeed making history.
“What I was so impressed by when I first saw John Krasinski’s film was the level of detail that he went to to tell an authentic story, particularly with the character of Regan,” creative director John Murdy told IndieWire during the event’s opening night on September 5 at Universal Studios Hollywood. (The attraction is available at Universal Studios Florida in Orlando as well.)

Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Dead Snow, Violent Night) is headed into the open waters for a shark attack horror movie that’s been newly titled Beneath the Storm, and we’ve learned that it’s swimming our way next year.
Columbia Pictures will release Beneath the Storm in theaters August 1, 2025.
Phoebe Dynevor (Fair Play), Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2) and Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place: Part II) star in Beneath the Storm, produced by Adam McKay and Kevin Messick.
Plot details, at this time, are still under wraps. Stay tuned for more.
Wirkola’s project is one of many new shark attack movies in the works, with Lizzy Greene starring in High Tide and Sean Byrne directing Dangerous Animals, to name just a couple.
The prospect of a shark attack movie directed by Tommy Wirkola is particularly exciting, however, as Wirkola’s movies are always wildly entertaining and extremely bloody.

Whether you feel Ridley Scott's Best Picture winner "Gladiator" is a red-blooded, fist-pumping swords and sandals brouhaha or a "muddy, fuzzy, and indistinct" affair, we can surely all agree it's got a killer cast. Russell Crowe as the stoic hero Maximus, playing the role that snagged him an Oscar a year after he should've won for "The Insider," is the calm at the center of the storm. From Blumhouse, the producer of The Black Phone, Get Out and The Invisible Man, comes suspense thriller Speak No Evil, starring BAFTA award-winner James McAvoy in a riveting performance as the charismatic, alpha-male estate owner whose untrammeled hospitality masks an unspeakable darkness.
When an American family is invited to spend the weekend at the idyllic country estate of a charming British family they befriended on vacation, what begins as a dream holiday soon warps into a snarled psychological nightmare.
Speak No Evil also stars Mackenzie Davis and SAG award-winner Scoot McNairy as American couple Louise and Ben Dalton, who, along with their 11-year-old daughter Agnes, accept the weekend-holiday invitation of Paddy (McAvoy), his wife Ciara and their furtive, mute son Ant (newcomer Dan Hough).

Shh! Be very, very quiet — "A Quiet Place: Day One" is coming home. I don't know about you, but I didn't have a ton of faith in the sci-fi horror prequel. Don't get me wrong: I like the first two "Quiet Place" movies, but usually, when a franchise enters prequel terrority, it can be a sign of desperation. It often signals that producers have run out of ideas and want to just go back to the well to cash-in on brand awareness. So it was a wonderful surprise when "A Quiet Place: Day One" turned out to be both a really good movie and, believe it or not, the best entry in the "Quiet Place" franchise. The secret to the film's success is writer-director Michael Sarnoski, who also helmed the excellent Nicolas Cage movie "Pig." Sarnoski ends up elevating the material, crafting an emotional story that packs a punch. Here's...

We’ve known all along that director Zack Snyder intended to release extended, R-rated director’s cuts of his movies Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire (read our review Here) and Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver (read our review of that one Here), which were rated PG-13 in their shorter form. Snyder said that there would be an hour of extra content in each of these director’s cuts – and now the Netflix listings for the director’s cuts, which sport the titles Rebel Moon – Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness have revealed just how much more Rebel Moon we’re going to be getting when these versions of the movies drop onto the streaming service on August 2nd. Rebel Moon – Chapter One: Chalice of Blood has a running time of 3 hours and 24 minutes, a full 70 minutes longer than the A Child of Fire cut.

Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Dead Snow, Violent Night) is headed into the open waters for an untitled shark attack horror movie, and Deadline reports this afternoon that Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place: Part II) has signed on.
Phoebe Dynevor (Fair Play) and Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2) also star.
Adam McKay and Kevin Messick will produce the untitled movie for Sony, with Variety recently noting that production is expected to take place this coming summer in Australia.
“Plot details are being kept under wraps,” the site also reported back in May.

When Christian and Mads Tafdrup's Danish horror Gæsterne — aka Speak No Evil — landed on Shudder back in 2022, it left even the hardiest of genre lovers, well, speechless honestly. Amongst those beguiled by the duo's darker than dark tale about a Danish family whose charming Dutch hosts for a weekend getaway aren't quite all they seem was Blumhouse head honcho Jason Blum, who quickly snapped up the rights to an English-language remake. Relocated to the UK, written and helmed by Eden Lake's James Watkins, and starring Mackenzie Davis (Station Eleven) and Scoot McNairy (A Quiet Place Part II) as an American couple invited to Brits James McAvoy and Aisling Franciosi's (Game Of Thrones) idyllic country estate, the Speak No Evil remake already looks set to get tongues wagging once again. Just check out the new trailer for the holidaying horror below:

It may not have been planned as a franchise, but the "A Quiet Place" universe is expanding rapidly. Beginning with an inventive script from writer Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, with a lot of help from director John Krasinski, the 2018 sci-fi horror flick became a much bigger hit than anyone expected it to be. Seriously, on paper it was a tough sell to picture Jim from "The Office" directing a killer monster movie. Yet, that's precisely what he did, paving the way for not just a sequel, but a full-on franchise.
To date, we've had three movies in the series, with "A Quiet Place Part III" and other installments likely on the way because, put simply, Paramount likes making money. So, for those who maybe fell off at some point or never got on the train in the first place, we're going to go over the correct order to watch these movies.

“Twisters” is taking the box office by storm.
The movie, a standalone sequel to the 1996 disaster epic “Twister,” has collected a massive $80.5 million from 4,151 North American theaters in its debut. Heading into the weekend, the follow-up film was projected to generate $50 million to $55 million. It’s the third-biggest opening weekend of the year behind “Inside Out 2” ($154 million) and “Dune: Part Two” ($82 million). Directed by “Minari” filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung, “Twisters” stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell and Anthony Ramos as storm chasers who find themselves in the fight of their lives as multiple tornadoes converge over central Oklahoma.
Analysts believe several factors contributed to the surge in initial ticket sales, the most important being that audiences simply dug the film. It holds an “A-” on CinemaScore. Nostalgia for the original blockbuster, starring Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Cary Elwes and Philip Seymour Hoffman, as well as the rising bankability of the property’s fresh faces,...

Would theaters even be operating if not for animated films? It’s a fair question, heavily reinforced by this weekend when “Despicable Me 4” (Universal) and “Inside Out 2” (Disney) combined to gross $105 million.
So far in 2024, animated features have grossed a little under $1 billion, more than 25 percent of the total gross. Take that amount away, it’s hard to imagine most theaters staying afloat. That’s a big increase from 2023, when similar releases made up around 18 percent.
The sixth entry in the “Despicable Me/Minions” franchise grossed about $75 million for the three day weekend, $122.6 million total for five days to take #1 with ease. “Inside Out 2” took second with $30 million, down only 48 percent despite strong new competition. That comes to more than two thirds of the $157 million total.

So far in 2024, animated features have grossed a little under $1 billion, more than 25 percent of the total gross. Take that amount away, it’s hard to imagine most theaters staying afloat. That’s a big increase from 2023, when similar releases made up around 18 percent.

One of the most surprising franchises in recent years, A Quiet Place: Day One brings the franchise back to theaters. The third film inside a decade, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, and now Lupita N’yongo, has proven it’s got staying power. There’s a lot to like about the franchise, so much so that a few similar movies and shows have reached for similar material. A few of these movies existed or were in production alongside A Quiet Place. Yet their similarity speaks to Hollywood’s never-ending willingness to push out movies with similar themes and ideas simultaneously.
Suggested“I wanted to focus on that”: A Quiet Place: Day One Director Owes a Lot to Nicolas Cage That Made John Krasinski Handpick Him for the Spinoff The Silence (2019)
Unfortunately for The Silence, the Stanley Tucci and Kiernan Shipka starring movie forces its audience to imagine a world where sound attracts monsters.

The year might have gotten off to a slow start at the box office, but things are finally starting to heat up in the back half of 2024. Not only did "Inside Out 2" just cross the $1 billion mark after a stellar $57.4 million third weekend in theaters, but Paramount's "A Quiet Place: Day One" finally delivered the horror hit that we've been waiting for. Indeed, the third installment in the ever-expanding sci-fi franchise delivered a franchise-best domestic opening, taking in an estimated $53 million. But that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Director Michael Sarnoski's "Quiet Place" prequel also took in a stellar $45.5 million overseas, bringing its global total to $98.5 million. With that, it becomes the highest-grossing horror movie of 2024 worldwide after just a single weekend in theaters. The previous record belonged to the South Korean blockbuster "Exhuma," which did $97.6 million worth of business around the world, becoming a modest hit in the U.

The death of the movie theater was greatly exaggerated. Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 became the first movie in 11 months to gross over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, and in record time for an animated feature.
“There’s joy all around as Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2 has crossed the coveted $1B milestone at the worldwide box office. With $1,014.8B through 19 days, this is the quickest time to the mark for an animated movie ever, besting the previous record holder, Frozen 2, which got there in 25. Only 11 animated films have ever crossed the $1B threshold, and of those, Disney and Pixar combined now have eight.”

“A Quiet Place” has become a horror franchise with few equals.
The third entry in Paramount’s post-apocalyptic series, “A Quiet Place: Day One,” beat expectations with $53 million domestically and $98 million globally in its box office debut. It landed the best start of the three films, above the original 2018 “A Quiet Place,” ($50 million in its opening) and the 2021 sequel, “A Quiet Place Part II”. The enduring appeal of the trio of films, the most recent entry serving as an origin story, signals that “A Quiet Place” has enough power to fill seats at multiplexes based on the strength of its name. It joins the company of other big horror properties, like “The Conjuring,” “Paranormal Activity” and “Insidious,” all of which remain popular but have experienced some diminishing returns over the course of many sequels and spinoffs.

Silence has returned to the box office, but if you listen carefully you might hear the sound of theater owners happily counting their cash. Horror prequel "A Quiet Place: Day One" landed this weekend, and although it's the first "Quiet Place" movie without John Krasinski in the director's chair, the series hasn't skipped a beat. In fact, "Day One" set a new record for the franchise with a mighty $53 million opening weekend at the domestic box office. It also grossed $45.5 million from overseas markets, which adds up to a global opening weekend just shy of $100 million. It's already the highest-grossing horror movie of 2024 after just a few days in theaters.
That box office debut cements "A Quiet Place" as one of the most consistent franchises around. The original 2018 movie scored an opening weekend of $50 million, and "A Quiet Place Part II" opened to $47.5 million in 2021 despite the ongoing impact of...
