Fawad Khan is set to make a highly anticipated Bollywood comeback after an 8-year hiatus, starring alongside Vaani Kapoor in a Hindi romantic comedy film directed by Aarti Bagdi. The film, which will be shot entirely in the UK, explores the journey of two broken individuals who find solace and love in each other, aiding each other’s healing process. This project marks a significant return for Khan, who last appeared in the Pakistani blockbuster “The Legend of Maula Jatt” and the international series “Ms. Marvel.”

Mumbai, Aug 10 (Ians) Bollywood actor and humanitarian Sonu Sood helped a 65-year-old man from Bihar to help him clear his debts.

The man named Khilanand Jha travelled all the way to Mumbai only to meet Sonu, whom he fondly refers to as ‘Gareebo Ka Masiha’ or the Messiah of the Poor.

Jha’s story, riddled with struggles and financial burdens, touched Sonu’s heart, prompting him to lend him a helping hand.

For the unversed, Jha’s wife, Minoti Paswan, passed away earlier this year after a paralytic stroke, leaving him with a debt of Rs 12 lakh for her medical expenses. With creditors demanding the clearance of payment, he sought Sonu’s assistance after hearing about his efforts to help the less fortunate during the pandemic.

Jha, accompanied by his son, recently met Sonu at his office.

The actor empathised with the elderly man’s situation and readily agreed to offer him support.

The film released in India across 5,019 screens and debuted at No. 1 with a three-day weekend of 18.9 million. The film’s overseas screen count was 3,894.

In the U.S., where the film is distributed by Disney, it released in 810 theaters and debuted at No. 2 with 4.4 million.

The horses from Raj Khosla’s 1971 hit Mera Gaon Mera Desh are back in business again after many years, admittedly a little tired. But the gallop is still strong. Sadly there is not much here in Shamshera for the horses to trot about. This is a lamentably lame action film with characters who seem to belong to a time when Laxmi Chhaya would tie the hero to the nearest lamppost and sing Maar diya jay ke chhod diya jaye.

Shamshera has its own Laxmi Chhaya. Vaani Kapoor’s gym-trained body(not sure they had gyms in the 18th century) sways sensuously at various villainous celebrations where Ranbir Kapoor robs the rich of their gold to feed the underdogs.

It’s all done in a tone of self-mockery that never quite makes it into the hall of flames.

As the summer winds down, the stream of major franchise films has dried up, but there are still a few high profile releases left to beef up the box office and hopefully keep the overall weekend grosses above 100 million for another three weeks. When Yash Raj Films’ Shamshera opens at the Indian box office tomorrow, all eyes in Mumbai’s Hindi-language film industry, popularly known as Bollywood, will be closely watching the release.

With a big star, Ranbir Kapoor, major studio and reported 20M budget behind it, hopes are high that the period action film will signal a recovery for Bollywood, which has had an underwhelming first half of 2022.

While a few Hindi films have performed well this year – The Kashmir Files, Gangubai Kathiawadi and most recently horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 – an alarming number of titles with big stars and high expectations have flopped, despite the fact that Indian cinemas have been open with no Covid restrictions for several months.

Adding insult to injury, films from the South Indian film industries, made in other languages – most notably Kannada-language K.G.F.: Chapter 2 and Telugu-language Rrr – have been breaking box office records in India and overseas.

Audiences have been eagerly awaiting to see the action-adventure Shamshera come to life on the big screen and finally it will happen this Friday. Directed by Karan Malhotra, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Vani Kapoor, and Sanjay Dutt in the lead roles.

Set in the 1800s in the fictional town of Kaza, Shamshera showcases Ranbir Kapoor playing a larger-than-life quintessential Hindi film hero times two, both as Shamshera and his son Balli. He is pitted against Sanjay Dutt, whose character Shuddh Singh is an evil, ruthless, cold-hearted villain. It is a battle of good versus evil, and we will find out who triumphs in the end on July 22.

Shamshera was designed, created, and shot on a mammoth scale. It all began with a preparation period that was over one year. Then it took four months to build the colossal set utilizing hundreds of workers and crew members from many production departments.

July 22nd, we will finally get to see Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor in Karan Malhotra’s epic action entertainer Shamshera. Hitting the big screen on July 22nd, is the period drama Shamshera. Directed by Karan Malhotra, the film sees Ranbir Kapoor as quintessential Hindi film heroin not in one but two roles; the titular character and that of his son Balli.
