Ouzo instead of (Greek) wine
No you will not get free alcohol - and I do not condone excessive drinking anyway. All things are good in moderation - well most things. Which brings us to this "musical". I had no idea it was one to be honest, so I was a bit surprised. But it is what it is - and for some I reckon it even works to a certain degree. It even received awards - and surely not Razzies as someone else suggests. But I like how that person is thinking.
The songs are all by Udo Juergens - you may be familiar with his work. And he has done some very fine songs. So hearing those was not too bad actually. The dance choreography on the other hand - well let's not waste too much time on that. Better yet, let's not waste too much time on the movie overall ... it is better that way. Believe you me.

Bunt
Hat was, wenn auch schrill und musikalisch den Originalsongs nicht ganz gerecht werdend. Funktioniert wohl auf der Bühne besser als auf der Leinwand, auch wenn die Schauspieler sich voll reinlegen.

Unbearable
In the screening I attended a set of unlikable characters dressed in candy colored clownish costumes tried to entertain a slowly dissipating audience with cheesy jokes, mediocre dancing and amateurish singing.
This might work on a stage with improved choreography and with a cast that is accustomed to add zest to this string of outdated pieces of German pop music that seem to be connected only by a list of the top ten hits of long deceased singer/composer Udo Juergens.
Not sure if the awards this effort received were in the realm of the Golden Raspberry.

one should leave musicals to the Americans
Despite the good cast and the music from Jürgens, it is already tepid.
I prefer the American musicals.
The Germans should concentrate on what they can really do.

A colorful and cheerful musical in best "Mamma Mia!" tradition
While this musical is somewhat reminiscent of "Mamma Mia!" in terms of spirit and style, it certainly stands its own ground. As a matter of fact, I'd say it does a few things better than the other title does.
Finding the right balance between being a cheerful comedy on the one hand, and providing a set of deeply emotional and believable characters on the other hand must have been quite tricky, but the whole team has nailed this perfectly.
The pace of the musical is just right, and the integration of Udo Jürgens (in German speaking countries) famous hits into the overall flow has been working out splendidly.
Heike Makatschs, Katharina Thalbachs, and Uwe Ochsenknechts performances were just outstanding, and Moritz Bleibtreu has proven once more what he is capable of (although I'm admittedly not entirely objective in this regard, since I've always been a fan of Bleibtreus work).
I cross my fingers that this lovely piece of art gets the attention it deserves. Two thumbs up, and I'd really like to see more of its kind in German cinemas!

Light as a biscuit
Based on th the German stage musical and the songs from Udo Jürgen. A wonderfully feel good movie. That is what are u see, a cast who lives the play a lovely production. This movie has the heart of "let me entertain you" as goal and that is exactly what he is doing. No more no less. Wonderful.
