Round the Twist (1989)
Holy crap it's great!!!
I watched this television series (well the first two seasons) with my brother. (I was in grade 13 and he was in grade 11) It is so great and funny that we made sure we saw every episode...you can't beat a show that has magic underwear and reverse spaghetti eating contests....I wish I had them on video because I would throw round the twist parties ....or something like that...
Not the Nine O'Clock News (1979)
honestly, stinking fantastic!!
Hedgehog sandwiches, kinda lingers, and barry manilow....nothing more classic can be described. funniness times 10. what a great way to spend an evening. grabs hold of you right from the start. Never let go. never.
Adventures in Babysitting (1987)
i get goosebumps everytime i watch.
This movie has everything you need. just watch it. great lines that the whole family can use. music that will make your heart glad. classic humour. a gang fight. a blues scene that still makes me the happiest girl. and an underlying theme of "don't tell the parents at whatever cost." JUST PERFECTion.
Harry Knuckles and the Treasure of the Aztec Mummy (1999)
super fun fantastic
Harry Knuckles, aka Spanish fly, is groovalicious crime fighter and with his pal Santo they clean up some zombie scum. Very fun short with a great soundtrack and look. GOODTIMES ALLAROUND!
The Third Man (1949)
expressionist elements
Carol Reed's direction of this film uses many references to German Expressionism. The tilted camera angles, the shadows that seem to be unconnected to the actors, the unmotivated lighting, etc.
A great example of these elements is the sewer chase, the maze of tunnels, the lighting and the camera angles are reminiscent of the streets in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
The use of expressionism may be to remind the audience that Germany has produced wonderful things, not just war. And not the Cuckoo clock.
