Samaritan (2022)
Best Stallone movie I have seen in years!
Yes Stallone. Good choice to pick this script. It's what you expect in a story like this and a little more. With heart, and a good moral to the story.
I loved and ate this film up. With all the roles and scripts around Hollywood why do they not make more movies like this that give action hero's that are now a little older better part to play and display not only their action appeal but their acting ability.
All the actors in this film did a good job. But Stallone hit it out of the park for me. I waited for this movie after hearing about the concept a while ago. Glad it was worth the wait.
I would say it's almost great for the whole family but because of the language and violence I would say at least 10 years old and up. Depending on what type of movies your child has watched.
Moonfall (2022)
Moonfall Emmerich What More do you need to know.
This is exactly what it look likes. But actually better. And with amazing Special Effects is the acting by Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson and John Bradley. Who provide the best special effects by entertaining you on this Summer PopCorn Blockbuster that only Emmerich makes. Do not know why this is getting such a bad rating. I actually watched it twice and it's far better than most of these reviews are saying. I find it unfortunate that it won't make the money back it took to make. Or will we get a sequel. I can't say there's a Rolland Emmerich movie I didn't really like. And I liked this one better than a few of his other movies. How is he going to top himself next. How does he do it. And with an excellent score. How does he pick the best GO TO CREDITS song always. It's not going to win an academy award. It's not to be taken seriously. It's a Sci-fi disaster movie with all the pieces in place. If you take it too serious, or are looking for shakespeare you are watching the wrong film. The world needs more Emmerich. I actually want Devlin and Emmerich every couple of years. I would be fine with that. I enjoyed it. Thanks to all who help create this film which is not just some of the best designed eye candy I've seen in a long time. But a well laid out film. I have a feeling it was longer but cut down to an already long running film. I could go for another 10-15 mins. Thanks.
Death on the Nile (2022)
I want a Detective Poirot film every two years.
I enjoyed this film and waited for it. I was super excited cause I enjoyed the first film so much. Although this one wasn't as good as Murder On The Orient Express. I also don't think each James Bond movie is better then each other. Some are good, some are not so good. However I enjoy them all.
The filming, acting, scenery is fantastic. Kenneth Branagh and his creative team did a great job and I could only ask for more. All changes from the original novel were very entertaining and easy to follow.
Such a nice easy watch. A nice sit down and relax who is the murderer? I recommend it. I would like to see a new one every two years if I could. I only hope that the studio decides to go ahead with more films based on the novels with Kenneth Branagh as both actor and director.
The Adam Project (2022)
I waited for this film...and it was worth the wait!
We need more films like this. It seems to me Ryan Reynolds is in a great groove and I hope and wonder if he is going to top himself. So proud that he is Canadian. His choices along with director, actor and story are on point.
This film is fun for the whole family. It has something for everyone. I cannot understand how some reviews are negative at all. I think some people see too many movies and become way to critical. I watched this with my daughter who happens to be a great audience and participates when the moment arises. We laughed. We got choked up. We clapped, cheered.
This is the kind of movie the creators set out to make. I will say that I thought the first half was better then the second. But just by a very little. Cause it comes to a great conclusion. Because of that my rating is a little low. But not by much. Totally worth the watch. This is not a film to be dissected over it's science facts and believability. It's a movie. A place we go to escape. And escape I did. I hate when people come out of a film like TRANSFORMERS saying how unbelievable it was. Really...you just went in to see a movie about Robot's in disguise? You are not going to get Shakespeare. So watching this film you should know what you are walking into from watching the trailer or reading a synopsis.
I had a constant smile from the beginning of this movie and wanted more, and was hoping that it didn't take a turn and become a bad movie. And this is the kind of content we are getting from a streaming service. Wow. I will be watching this again. In fact I've watched any clip that comes up on YouTube which refers to anything to do with this film. I think the young actor in this film did great. And would love to see more of him. And who, who doesn't want to see more of Ryan. Ever since he stepped infront of a camera you knew that's were he was suppose to be. If I could give HALVES on IMDB, I'm so close to giving this film and 8.5. So will say that I give this film an 8-8.5 our of 10. - Toronto, Canada.
West Side Story (2021)
I am a Huge Original Movie Fan
2021 movie starts and I am pleasantly surprised that the opening doesn't even come close to the original film. That happened a few times as I watched this new movie. But the script was so well written, the characters, and actors or so fleshed out. It's all fresh like I am watching the movie all over again for the first time and as decisions are made by the creators, and sequences are arranged as the original stage play. Spielberg does it again! In the end I will say that this version did for me what the original never did. But the original did for me what Spielberg couldn't or can't do. What a treat. I've seen the original hundreds of times. And tonight, tonight I was able to enjoy it again like it was my first time ever. Spielberg is a master. No doubt. I say he pulled this off very well cause the original is definitely the toughest act to follow. And buddy boy, boy crazy boy Steven did it. The guts, talent, and knowing what team to put together to achieve this deserves a lot of praise. And Rita is the icing on the cake and does a superb job in every scene she is in. It's incredible.
As I mentioned I was very critical and wasn't really too happy to see some of the scenes, basically the choreography just wasn't up there as compared to the original. But it was charming in it's own way. In the end, this nicely packaged retelling of the story was told very very well. If you can, go man go but not like a yo yo school boy.
Congratulations Mr. Spielberg and cast and crew!
This was a mission impossible completed.
Strays (2021)
Refreshing, Laughs, only two episodes in.
Refreshing laughs in an easy to watch show. So far so good. Only two episode so far. And the second is better than the first. I hope that continues. But can't really give it a solid review until I see more. And more is what I would like to see.
Honestly so far all the characters are enjoyable to watch and you get a lot packed into only a half an hour. I'd say I'm a fan. Who knows when this season is over I may change my review and be back.
For a half hour show, refreshing and easy to watch. And pets at the centre of it, I would give this show a shot. Who knows where this could go!
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
I didn't just like it...I almost crapped my pants lost my mind liked it!
Wow! All I wanted was Luke. And boy did I get the almost perfect dose of him. WOW. I liked a lot of things in this movie. And some I didn't. What a creative filmmaker Rian Johnson is. Entertaining from beginning to end. I can't get over the things that happened in this movie. Although I could have done with some things being left out. Or entirely different. Funny. So refreshing to see a movie that takes risks. And feeds you a story so fast. It reminds you that this is what Star Wars movies are all about. Tonight with my gang. And a great audience. We laughed, we cheered, clapped, and maybe just maybe. Got a little choked up. Very well done! It felt as new and fresh as the sequel to the original Star Wars movie The Empire Strikes Back. And Mark Hamill knocked it out of the part. Yes I wanted more. But I'll take what I got. The series could end right here and I'd be ok with that.
And for that I have to give this film a very, very, very strong 8.5 out of 10.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Best version of Batman on the Silver Screen to date. Too bad he was in this movie.
I am no fan of the first Superman film in this series. But this is the best version of BATMAN ever seen on the Silver Screen. Too bad he had to be in this movie. I've always said that they have never really captured Batman on film before as he should be. This was the closest yet. I was really enjoying it. Although, some I was with thought it to be a little slow starting up. I really like an interesting story. Told in a very interesting way. And I was really having a good time. But I felt the END was a little WEAK. This is also the first time I truly felt that IMAX played a very important part of the experience. And I'm not sure what the critics are talking about. I thought everyone did a very good job, and perhaps this might be my favourite film this director has made. I wasn't a fan of what he did to THE WATCHMEN and SUPERMAN. Sound effects in this movie, and music are fantastic. It's a superhero movie as it should be. Loud. Big. Batman looks great! Way better than the first movie Superman. This film gets a strong 7.5 out of 10.
Michael Jackson's Journey from Motown to Off the Wall (2016)
Wow! Spike Lee Awesome Work!
This documentary on the impressive, to say the least, Michael Jackson...Is GOLD. Can't help but think of the time and skill at which Spike Lee puts into this needed to be told Documentary on the life of Michael Jackson leading up to his release of OFF THE WALL. The old footage. As clear as it can be. Stunning. The editing is incredible. The interviews from the people who were there, in the studio. To the people who were influenced in and around the time of Michael, and the Jackson 5. I didn't want it to end. And yet, I'm reminded of just how extraordinary of a talent Michael was. And the extraordinary sad events on how we lost him.
First there was the BAD documentary, then there's the OFF THE WALL documentary. I hope Spike is saving the best for last with THRILLER Documentary. But after watching JOURNEY from Mowtown to Off the Wall. That might be a hard order to fill. Please Spike do it.
Two talents...Spike Lee making a documentary about Jackson. Unbelievable. Thanks Spike Lee, and Thanks Michael...for everything.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
These were not the droids I was looking for. Fun. But not perfect.
STAR WARS : THE FORCE AWAKENS - In IMAX 3D. I said it before and I'll say it again. J.J. Abrams is really good at taking other people's ideas and making them work. Or reworking them. Or at least getting the right people involved to help him. But has never hit it out of the ball park for me. He has come close. But never Bang On. It's nice to see a Star Wars film with the techniques and feeling of the originals. Before Lucas went all nuts with power and digital "WE DON'T NEED TO MAKE SETS" "WE DON'T NEED TO USE PEOPLE" special effects. Nothing will ever compare to the original Star Wars. Nothing. This film was well made, directed, and acted. Fun. But these were not the droids I was looking for. smile emoticon I hope the next generation likes it more than me. I give it an 8.5 out of 10.
The Visit (2015)
M. Night is on a short list of true film makers with vision and skill.
I've said a million times. I love M. Night Shyamalan. He's the last of a dying few true film directors who knows how to write, and make a movie. He plays the audience like a master at his craft. And although some may disagree. I think since Sixth Sense people's expectations of his film are way too high. This was another excellent movie. I was creeped out. I laughed out really hard. I was truly scared for some of the characters in this film. Even if you can slightly see where the plot is going, or "Twist". Doesn't take away that this film was brilliantly written and filmed. From the casting down to the filming style. It's like your "Lost Footage Film" but not. M. Night takes everything to the next level. Can't wait to see what he does next. 7.5 out of 10.
Turbo Kid (2015)
Awesome 80's VHS/RCA VIDEO or LASER Discs junkies...this is for you.
If you remember the 80's video stores and movie titles that you have never heard of before. But maybe read about in a Starlog, or Fangoria magazine. You know, before the internet. And you've watch more then one Post Apocalyptic film. Midnight Drive-in, double or triple bill. Over the top violent gore. This film is for you.
The film makers, couldn't have picked a better cast. Come on. These people knew exactly what they were making, and who they were making it for. And Michael Ironside, Munro Chambers and Laurence Lebouef...they knocked this out of the park.
I can't tell you how happy I am that Michael Ironside was cast, or accepted the role in this film. And Munro Chambers acting has always had a special honesty about him. He has made acting look easy, and always brings the right acting chops to the scene. I hope this boy gets big, and remains small and humble. Cause man this kid has always had it. Casting of him as Turbo Kid is like Magic. And Ms Leboeuf...again...wow...magic, is it her, was it the directing? Either way. It worked.
This film is not going to break box office records. But I think it will make money in the long run. And will be talked about for years to come. A cult following. Why why why can't movies like this get the recognition it deserves in North America.
Please please please...if this film can't get the audience it deserves. Let the world see more work from everyone, everyone involved in this Brilliant Piece of Nostalgia Film Making. Let these artist shine. Munro Chambers...you go kid...You go Turbo Kid. Strong 6.5 out of 10 from me.
John Wick (2014)
You get what you get in this type of film...Keanu Kicks it! Really enjoyed it!
WOW. I laughed, hollered and was so thrilled within the first 20 minutes of this film. Then I wanted more. And I wanted to spend more time in this world and the many stories that could go on in it. What a BLAST of a movie. Gun, and violence galore. I think I've seen some really interesting FIRSTS done in this film. About time. It won't win an Oscar but you get what you get in this type of movie. Keanu was KICK ASS. And the running time was just right.
I don't understand why people would bash this film. What were they expecting. It's action, fast paced, and well choreographed. I'm not a real big car fan, but the cars, and what they did in this film were very impressive. I've become more surprised all the time that movies like this don't get the attention or box office. Yet Hunger Games, Divergent or Friday The 13th part 20, continue to make money.
It's Violent. Exciting. Action. Your not going to get Lawrence Of Arabia. If you want a good old action flick. There are far worst things you can watch then this.
8 out of 10
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
The Summer Blockbuster from my childhood has returned...Finally!
I've said it before SPACE is made for 3D. This film was a good time. I read the PARENTAL ADVISORY before taking my 6 year old who has seen her fair share of films. And documentaries. And she loved it. She said it was better then another Disney film which songs were way over played. That says a lot. This might be her best film ever. My wife also liked it a lot. I heard her laugh several times. And that says a lot.
Everything about this film was so entertaining to watch. I plan on seeing it again. I think it's been decades since I wanted to stay, or get back in line to watch the film again.
The fun I had just listening to the dialogue of this film alone is worth the ticket. But add action, the best special effects around, amazing sound, 3D at its best. Well it's the summer blockbuster I've waited for at least the past 10 years. Maybe more.
Headcase (2013)
Well written, executed, and acted independent film.
In a world where so many movie remakes, sequel, prequel, based on a TV show , Comic Book, Slasher films. There's the independent film makers who for a love of film, entertainment. Make movies. And you scratch your head and wonder, how did this film even see the light of day. Or make it to the theatre/video/digital download.
This is not one of those.
In my opinion. With a few minor - MINOR - negatives. This was an excellent piece of work by all who contributed.
I laughed. I was surprised. I was entertained.
And once again, I wonder if these "lovers of film"... that haven't been spoiled, or fallen into "corporate Hollywood" had a bigger budget. There's no telling where they could go. Or how we could be entertained.
If you read this review and a get a chance to see a decent independent film. I suggest you do so. Headcase for me get's a 7 out of 10.
Pacific Rim (2013)
Better then I expected but not WOW Great.
PACIFIC RIM - From the first time I heard about this film many months ago. I thought nothing of it. Only recently with the word of mouth hype did I decide to go and see it. Special Effects were out of this world. The slow moving giants were perfect for 3D. The sound...amazing. The story...was a little better then alright. I didn't think there would be much of a story. Because without a story. Special Effects just become eye candy.
I couldn't help but think of Independence Day meets Godzilla with a little bit of Starship Troopers. Except less actors...a lot less actors. Dated...but I enjoyed ID4 a lot more.
No one even clapped at the end on opening night. The director still has it. But not like he use to. I enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed Hellboy 2. Just alright...better then most movies. Maybe I expected more because of the Hype. So I won't add to it.
But just say what I feel in my opinion. The young kids will probably like it more. Say 6-7 and up. But not the BLOCKBUSTER movie I was looking forward to. My fun of the Summer is still with Star Trek Into The Darkness for many, many reasons.
Want to see what I thought was a masterpiece of Guillermo del Toro's work. Treat yourself to the Spanish (Subtitles in English) film 'THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE...that should have gotten him an Oscar instead of PAN'S LABYRINTH.
Man of Steel (2013)
Nice Try - Enjoyable - But a miss to Donner/Reeve's Superman.
This was such a nice fresh start to a super hero movie that no one has been able to duplicate since the 1978 classic directed by Richard Donner, and starred Christopher Reeve.
I really enjoyed the way in which the story was told. But wanted more. I'm bothered by a few moments in the film where it pushed my disbelief to far. And it came off insulting my "Movie" intelligence. One thing was never even answered. Unless I missed something.
A lot of eye candy. But without a proper structure for a story. It's just eye candy.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed it. Not the best Summer Blockbuster in my opinion.
The actors did a great job. And Costner, and Crowe. With the little screen time. Were more entertaining to watch then the rest of the cast. And I felt Lois Lane, was poorly cast. And I love that actress.
It was fun. Not fun enough. And I still think Superman : The Movie, is still the best super hero movie ever made.
I like the originality of the ideas and the way the story was told. Entertaining. But I don't think it lives up to the the hype "From Studio Exec's?" that we heard about in the months leading up to its release.
I really wanted to love this movie. And I wanted to be blown away. Instead...it was very interesting...and too much eye candy, with not enough story.
Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
Star Trek Original Series Fan 10/10
I've said it before about J.J. Abrams and his team of talent. They have an amazing way. Of taking other stories. And really KICKING IT into high gear, and making them very enjoyable. Perfect guy for Star Wars. really enjoyed what he did with the first Star Trek Reboot, and Super 8.
It may seem cliché to say this but...This movie as a stand alone Star Trek movie felt like the love letter to Star Trek fans. And an entertaining Science Fiction film for those that do not know anything about it.
The story, twists, acting, 3D...were all very enjoyable, and fun to watch. What Summer Blockbusters are FOR.
J.J. Abrams is a powerhouse!!!
Oblivion (2013)
GREAT FOR THE SCIENCE FICTION FAN! And maybe everyone!
They don't make many science fiction films these days. This was a pleasant surprise all throughout the film. Man did I like this film.
And in my opinion. Tom Cruise really likes what he does, and works at his craft as an actor very seriously. In my opinion 95% of Cruises movies in the last 10 years have been good choices. And I'm sick of what the media says about his personal life.
I am one who went and saw Prometheus with an open mind. And listened to what the director said about it NOT being an Aliens movie. And LOVED IT. Good Sci-fi. Such as this film.
It definitely turned out to be something I wasn't expecting.
Excellent Job by Everyone involved. Nice work Cruise!
Bait (2012)
Good Shark 3D Movie Fun! Fun! Fun! Since Deep Blue, and Jaws.
Don't know why this movie wasn't promoted better. Didn't see one commercial for it playing in the theatre. But man was it good fun!
First of all. Its one of the best SHARK movies that have come around since DEEP BLUE. Before that it was JAWS. And everything else in between is mediocre.
The story was good enough. And not just OK. But better then that. Although some parts are a little far fetched. That's why we watch movies. Cause who wants to see something realistic when going to see a movie like this.
They must have had experienced professionals working on the filming aspect, cause every scene was framed perfect for 3D. And my hats go off to all the talented film makers who created such a piece of work. The actors. Everyone - good job!
I hope sales of this film go through the roof now that most video stores do not exist. If only some really well placed advertising, and sales/price marketed this 3D Bluray could rake in tons!!!
If you can watch it in 3D. EVEN BETTER. I will watch this again. And I will recommend this to all 3D owners that don't mind some/little gore in a well paced original horror shark movie! In the genre and 3D I'm giving it an 8 out of 10.
Red Lights (2012)
Finally A Good Movie.
In a world full of Super Hero Movies, Sequels, 3D, and TV show made into movies.
We GET good actors, that we really like, doing a good job. And give it there all. As Robert, Sigorney, Cilian, Tobey and Elizabeth all do there best JOB. Which is act. Become there characters and with an excellent cast and crew take you on a story, that I did not find boring for a second.
I mean we should be applauding movies like this. It's original. Reference what you want, SIXTH SENSE, X-FILES etc....
Its been forever since REAL actors get a job they can really get into. I'm a fan. This would be a good date, movie. Not really scary at all.
Or rent it. I was extremely tired, but this movie did not make me fall asleep. And had me going right to the end. Whether there's a twist or not. It held my attention right to the last moment.
Sure I had some moments of trying to figure out what the story might turn into. Don't we all sometimes. And if were right does it make the plot predictable.
Maybe we are PSYCHIC?
What if we're wrong. Does it mean we are dumb.
I can't really see how anyone would hate this movie. Especially when most of Hollywood is interested in SEQUELS, COMICS, 3D. Maybe I just answered my own thought. I love COMICS, SEQUELS and 3D. But I also like old fashion movies, with story, that take risks. And now a days those are turning into Foreign films. Cause they have the guts to still make movies as an art form.
Congratulations to all the cast and crew, director, writer, editors...etc...etc....
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Awesome! Best Super Hero Trilogy For Sure!
If you are a fan, and are interested in seeing Dark Knight Rises...I can't see how you will not just love this film.
Its a master piece of work from everyone involved in bringing the story to life in all three films. It's been decades since I truly got goosebumps, that compared, and exceeded the goose bumps I received when Superman (C. Reeves) saved Lois Lane from the helicopter in Superman The Movie.
All of the actors did an excellent job and received there share of screen time perfectly. I don't think anything was wasted.
And although the movie is long, it sure didn't feel like the 2 hrs 45 mins running time.
I don't want to spoil it, at all.
Just want to make sure that people don't go into this movie thinking it's going to be Shakespeare, and then slamming it.
Kind of like people going into seeing a movie like transformers, and thinking it's stupid, unbelievable. I mean come on...your watching a movie about robots in disguise?
Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! To make the experience even better, or to see the perfectly created story best to watch the first two again, before seeing this one!
10 out of 10!
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
The most original film or the genre in a very long time! 8 out of 10!
Like I always say 80 - 85% of horror movies are not very good, but if you get scared, freaked out at least a little then it's worth it.
The commercial might seem a little typical. But this film is not.
I'm sure if any shots in the film remind you of The Evil Dead, or location of it being a Cabin in the woods. Was a well played homage to those films before it. And in no way a rip off.
CABIN IN THE WOODS - 8 out of 10. The most original film of the genre I've seen. Why it was filmed in 2009 and only released now, appears to be arguments between the studio and the creators of the film over 3D. Eventually released with the creators 2D intentions. Well worth the money. It's true. It's not what you think. Very entertaining. The less you know, or tell anyone...the better! Good night at the movies!
There will be gore. There will be laughs.
The Thing (2011)
Huge Fan Of Original - And Now A Fan Of This One Also.
This is what happens when someone who cares about a project/film like the John Carpenter THING. And wants to make an accurate prequel.
Everything from the look, the music, the monster ties in perfectly with the 1982. Even the FONT used in the film is the exact same font.
What more can I say. If you like the original 1982. I think you will like this. If you never saw the 1982 version. I still think you will be in for a good time at the movies.
For the fans of the original 1982. It's like experiencing that film, story, a new. Not knowing anything about what is to happen next, or who is the THING, or who isn't. Is something refreshing for a fan who has seen the 1982 version, and all the wonder and suspense is gone. But you enjoy it so much you watch it time, and time again.
GREAT JOB!!!
Zookeeper (2011)
What! What! What! Why so low users? At Least 7 Out Of 10!
Just watched this movie with the family. And I can honestly say I laughed out loud. We all did. Many, many times during this film. I haven't laughed so much, so hard at any films this year like I did this one. Perhaps with all the big titled summer blockbusters around, this movie just missed it's audience.
The geniuses behind this movie deserve a round of applause. Excellent humour, excellent entertainment for the whole family. Check the parental guide to see what you may or may not find appropriate. But as far as I'm concerned I would let 3 year old to 100 year old watch this movie.
I actually might have missed some funny lines, because I was laughing at what I just saw or heard.
Come on people this is a movie about animals talking to a Zookeeper. If it's something else your looking for. Then don't watch this movie.
Bravo!
