Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Definitely "re-imaged" but a great "remake"
I enjoyed this more than the original DOTD. My major gripes about this movie were the plotholes, the lack of character development (most of the time you had many characters you could care less about), and the running zombies. It just doesn't make sense. HOW do the dead RUN??? Instead of overanalyzing it, I sat back and enjoyed it on opening day. There were some humorous scenes (the infamous celebrity-look-alike zombie shooting spree scene, uhh hello, that did NOT look like Burt Reynolds!) and even scenes that made me cry- namely the scene between Lindy Booth & Matt Frewer (you'll know what I'm talking about if you saw it) and the part where Andy holds up the sign that says "Hungry" and you could see his ribs. Pathetic I know. I never thought *I* would cry at a horror movie.
In any case, the Richard Cheese version of "Down With The Sickness" was hilarious and a great cover, it wasn't as gory as the original but it was good. Definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. I plan on going again.
I give it a 9/10.
The Sopranos (1999)
For all of the haters out there...
Hello...it's a show about the mafia. There's bound to be violence and gore. Glorifying it? No, it's showing what happens, I assume, in a mafia situation. Don't like it? Turn the f***ing channel and (in the words of Tony Soprano himself), "Shut the f*** up!"!
I love this show. I am anticipating Season 5, wasn't thrilled with Season 4, but I am really looking forward to S5. I didn't start watching until the middle of Season 3, and caught up by renting Seasons 1, 2 and 3. The best series of the millenium by far!

All you haters out there, go watch Will & Grace. To me, I'd rather shoot myself in the foot before watching that show!
Jeepers Creepers (2001)
Scary movie indeed
I do not scare easily..but at times in this movie, I jumped and screamed. I loved this movie for its visual effects as well as the fact that you didn't know WHO the Creeper was.
***MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS***
The bone-crunching by the Creeper weirded me out...even creeped me out. The scene where the Creeper takes out the tongue of the decapitated police man...*SHUDDER*. VERY good, gory a bit, scary yes.
All in all I enjoyed this film. I was not happy with the ending though, of course.

The Fast and the Furious (2001)
Wow, I cannot believe so many negative things are said about this one
I honestly loved this movie. 2 hunks racing cars, and pure action...what more could we ask for? Vin Diesel is THE next Bruce Willis/Arnold Schwartzenegger! He has proved himself definite action movie material in this film along with xXx. Paul Walker is convincing as good guy/undercover cop Brian in this film. I love Michelle Rodriguez in this film, she absolutely cracks me up and at the same time, she's so fierce!
10/10
Joy Ride (2001)
Which came out first? Joy Ride or Jeepers Creepers??
Both have the same plotlines...college students going home in a car, long ride home. Well somewhat...you get what I'm saying. I personally LOVED Jeepers Creepers, and while I think Joy Ride was a good movie I don't think it measures up to Jeepers Creepers. As much of a Paul Walker fan I am, I am sorry but I definitely have to say that Jeepers Creepers was a LOT more creepy to me. Any movie that can make me scream is deserving of good credit, I am not one to scare easily.
However, with that said, overall JoyRide is a pretty good movie. There were times when I wanted to punch Steve Zahn though, for his character's sheer stupidity. And while that may have made it funny, to me it was irritating.

Where the Heart Is (2000)
Natalie Portman is a wonderful actress and perfect for this role
She was so believable yet again in this movie. This actress does NOT cease to amaze me. The movie is a tad depressing, I'm not a fan of dramatic movies, but I definitely enjoyed this one.

The Skulls (2000)
I'll admit it, I rented it for Paul Walker
While his character was believable, I could NOT take Joshua Jackson seriously in this film at all. He reminds me too much of Joe from Blue's Clues. Overall the movie was OKAY...wasn't too thrilled with it, but hey, at least I got to see Paul Walker! ;).

She's All That (1999)
High School was so not like this
While I was tormented in hs over my weight, at the same time, you NEVER saw "the ugly duckling" with the "beautiful vain jock". That's what made it so unbelievable for me. I'm glad I didn't waste my money on a rental and watched it on USA instead.
Regarding the acting:
Freddie Prinze Jr...he was okay. Your typical lovable jock jerk.
Rachel Leigh Cook...very believable...when teased it brought tears to my eyes, reminding me of how cruel some kids can be
Paul Walker...his character was an absolute JERK. I loathed him. But VERY believable
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe...her character was the kind of girl I would (now) probably beat the crap out of. Nasty as hell, hated by most!
The sequence where the students start dancing was too Grease-ish for me as well as VERY unbelievable. I loved the line in Not Another Teen Movie "Who would've guessed that everyone in school was a professional dancer?"...HELLO!!!

Anywhere But Here (1999)
This movie didn't impress me, but Natalie Portman's portrayal did
I was not very fond of this movie at first, but after watching Natalie Portman's portrayal of a young girl who had a floozy for a mother, and no father around, it affected me. As someone who did not have her own father around (at that same age) and had a mother who was too busy with friends (at that same age as well), I related rather well to her character. When she calls her father to talk to him, I could feel her pain when he rejected her. When she reached out to her boyfriend sexually and broke down in tears, I cried and felt the twinges of loneliness that she expressed. Never has a movie affected me so deeply.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
Best teen movie since The Breakfast Club
Julia Stiles is excellent as Kat Stratford, Larisa Oleynik is excellent as the revoltingly annoying sister. The puns were hilarious, the acting believable. Definitely a funny movie. If you haven't seen this one and love teen movies, rent it. You have to see this one!

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (2002)
HILARIOUS!!!
I don't know why I loved this movie so much. Maybe it's because they dubbed everything and made it with their own words? I think it's ingenious. It's the kind of thing that my sister and I would do. I loved the character of Ling the best...the "wee ohhh wee ohhh" parts had me cracking up so hard I thought I'd wet my pants!
I think it's brilliant and can't wait for the next one to come out!!
10/10!!
The Siege (1998)
This movie wasn't given enough credit...
I remember hearing about it and hearing bad reviews on this movie. Most of the people said it was "unbelievable". Fast forward to September 11th, 2001...how unbelievable is it now? Do you think that NYC could have been under martial law? Should it have been? While the movie had many extreme moments (such as detaining Muslims and Arabs), it was eerie. I rented this movie shortly after the events of Sept 11th after reading the reviews here on imdb.com. What I saw just gave me chills up and down my spine. The sad thing is...there are still so many people out there who would do that for their beliefs/causes.
Overall this movie was great in my humble opinion...and eerie. A premontion as some may have called it? Who knows. All I know is that the person who produced, wrote and directed this film was brilliant.

Passenger 57 (1992)
Borrring
I really expected more from this movie...but as soon as the credits rolled and the cheesy early 90's music played, I could tell this movie was going to be a BOMB. Wesley Snipes is convincing...but the whole movie just seemed to go slow...then fast paced...and unbelievable at times. However, in this time, you wonder exactly HOW unbelievable something like this could really be.
If seeing Elizabeth Hurley with mega-eyebrows and Wesley Snipes with a flat-top is your thing...go for it. Otherwise don't waste your money.

Sorority Life (2002)
Hooked
I am so hooked on this show. I think that Jordan is completely misunderstood and not given enough credit. She's a tough girl. At first I didn't like her, but she's definitely my favorite one on there. I wish they'd show my alma mater, UCSB on a sorority life one of these days. That would be a HOOT. It's a total party school.

Popstars: USA (2001)
Come on people...comment on this show
I followed the series (Popstars 1 & 2 USA) and loved every moment of it. I used to be a regular poster on their board...til the show was cancelled. Now Eden's Crush (Popstars 1) and Scene 23 (Popstars 2) are no more. Apparently their label was bought out. I watch American Idol and sometimes I wonder if Simon Cowell watched Popstars and is trying to pull a "Jaymes Foster-Levy" if you know what I mean. She was the first mean judge and will the be the ultimate. Although he can get nasty.
Anyhow...I miss this series and find it sad that the groups didn't make it.

Not Another Teen Movie (2001)
Hilarious, raunchy and a movie to remember
At least for me it was...
I found this movie chalk full of raunchiness, but at the same time, I found it absolutely hilarious. While I wasn't a teenager in the 80's, I have seen all the 80's movies that was referenced here. I didn't get the Varsity Blues parts because I haven't seen it. I would say I'm a sucker for most teen movies, and I found this parody the best.
My favorite part is the "Prom Tonight" musical.

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
Good sequel, one of the better
With the addition of Laurie Strode's daughter, Jamie Strode, and the addition of other families, this film really surprised me. I actually liked it, despite the cheesy 80's music.
The only thing I don't like is how they have NOT incorporated Jamie with the rest of the Halloween sequels. It leaves an open field of what happened with her and the baby from part 6.
8/10
Halloween II (1981)
Not too impressed with this one
There's something about this one being set at a hospital that I didn't care for very much. Now, the killings are good, but the suspense that was there in Halloween is just NOT there this time.
6/10
Halloween (1978)
The film that sparked off tons of copycats!
The best horror movie I have EVER seen is Halloween. I've seen EVERY Halloween movie and can honestly say that no one EVER beats the first.
With Michael Myers looming in the background with that awful scary white mask, you feel tense throughout the movie. Even after watching it many times, there is still an air of suspense in the room. This film NEVER left a bad taste in my mouth, it left me wanting more!!!
10/10!
9/11 (2002)
Sad, gripping, stomach churning
We all knew what was to come of this...I sat there watching this on CBS with my stomach in knots. I thought it was well edited and while I ponder on whether it should have even been aired or not, I am glad I got to see it. I recorded it and the other HBO special on 9/11. I still have NOT watched the HBO special. It's very hard for me to.
The horror of the WTC coming down with them in the other Tower and losing the Cardinal just left me in tears and shaking.
Incredible, sad, gripping and perhaps the most controversial aired show in our history.
Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
I disagree with those putting it down...as a diehard fan I LOVED it
Since everyone has given short synopsies of the film I will just say what I liked best about it. I agree with the person below who said that the opening sequence brought a tear to their eye...same here. And I also agree that you have to be a HUGE Halloween fan (and I'm not just talking about having seen all the movies, I'm talking about DIEHARD fan) to understand that scene.
I do agree also that the acting was a bit, well, questionable...but I really overall enjoyed the film and I really think that it does justice to the series. I did like H20 but I was disappointed in it. The one thing I wish they would do is bring back the characters of Tommy Doyle and Kara and incorporate that whole thing, MINUS that "Thorn Curse". That was just stupid (and YES I have seen the Producer's Cut, which was 100x better than the theatrical release).
I give it a 9/10.
