DOC - Nelle tue mani (2020)
Heartwarming medical drama
This Italian medical drama was a little gem. Every character's backstory is full of surprises, and even the lowliest intern has many layers. It is sometimes a little bit soapy, but mostly it is full of heart and watching the characters interact makes for great drama. They are more family than colleagues, in a way that reminded me a little bit of Code Black or 9-1-1. Both the cases of the week and the seasonal arc were compelling. I enjoyed all 16 episodes, but especially the one with Ricardo's backstory (episode 8, very touching, and truly added to the rest of the season). I'm looking forward to season 2.
Les aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec (2010)
Funny entertainment
"Les aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec" is just the kind of movie you would like to see after a day of hard work. It's funny, crazy without being stupid, rich in adventure. This zany comedy may not be faithful to the original comic (I haven't read it) and the story is hardly believable but it's certainly entertaining with nice costumes, beautiful sets from early 20th century Paris and good actors.Children ten or older will love the adventure thing in the movie, with dinosaurs, talking mummies and secret Egyptian tombs. Weird, freaky, sometimes a little bit scary and always funny. Louise Bougoin(Adèle) is beautifully charming, clever and funny, as well as the rest of the cast.
This movie has got a little "Amélie Poulain" feeling with its fantasy, and if the plot isn't very credible, I still had a very good time watching it for it's always surprising and hilarious.
Famille d'accueil (2001)
Nice, touching series for family
"Famille d'accueil" shows the everyday life of a foster-mother Marion Ferrière (Virginie Lemoine) and her family. Like everyone, she has arguments with her husband Daniel (Christian Charmetant), must support the eccentric, full-of-life aunt that raised her husband (Ginette Garcin, perfect as the strong-willed Tante Jeanne) and raise her son Tim (Antoine Ferey)and her adopted daughter Louise (Doriane-Louisy Louis Joseph. What makes her different is that in each episode, she must take care of a child with dead parents, a teen with a mother in prison or siblings victims of violence. Tim, Louise and Charlotte (the older daughter, played by Lucie Barret)have to cope with strangers at home while their parents are trying to help young people without points of reference.
The characters are all very well played and lovable, with realistic stories, like Daniel who discovers his former girl-friend had a son without telling him, or Juliette (Samantha Rénier),a young teacher with difficult pupils. The Ferrière family is very bonded, and it's a pleasure to watch them teasing, having diner, feeding the chickens (Tante Jeane is a farmer)and speaking of death, school, boy-friends, maternity and so on. I enjoyed watching the kids growing up, and found the Daniel-Marion relation interesting, true, with enough events to keep you entertained but with avoiding something too incredible.
The French legal system of protection of minors is mostly realistic, but unfortunately not always. The children Marion has to take of all got interesting lives, but their stories sometimes looks like foreseeable.
So without watching the whole episodes, you'll enjoy this series both serious and funny, with a great acting and interesting subjects.
