The Outlaws (2021)
A nice surprise
I'm really pleased I decided to give this a go, I think it's what you'd call these days a 'dramedy'
Stephen Merchant is funny and a very clever writer, but it's a decent cast too. I had to knock a star off because of the very obvious political correctness that others have mentioned but am guessing that's the BBC input if they were holding the purse strings. Looking forward to the next few episodes, I'm enjoying it.
Finding Alice (2021)
Could have been so much better
I'm not sure the trendy 'dramedy' is for me, I personally think it's better to be one thing or another and they rarely work. This has a great cast but the random comedy moments were not funny, in fact quite farcical and in some cases very bad taste - completely spoilt it for me. I stuck with it to the end because they were short episodes but really couldn't recommend it, shame because it had the potential to be a very good drama
Angels in America (2003)
Was I watching a different show?
This was recently reshown on Sky and given the reviews and the cast I was looking forward to a good binge watch. I've sat through some rubbish in my time but this was absolute garbage, I persevered thinking it must surely improve but it went from bad to worse. There is not one likable character (Belize is the best, most believable) and what could have been a decent storyline is just lost amidst chaos, confusion and nonsense. Emma Thompson, Meryl Streep, Al Pacino - what on Earth were you thinking. Give it a miss, it's 6 hours you'll never get back
Wentworth (2013)
Love love love...
This series is fantastic!
After some of the main characters went out in the earlier seasons I thought maybe it would go downhill moving forwards, as many do. But, the current run (7) is every bit as good. Give it a go and if you can, watch it from the very beginning. It's well worth a look and without a doubt the best prison drama going
Press (2018)
Under the radar
I'm surprised by the negative reviews for this series. I think with all the great dramas that are showing at the moment this series has slipped under the radar a bit.
Great cast and definitely worth a watch, I suspect it's uncomfortably close to the truth about what goes on the in the murky world of journalism
Wanderlust (2018)
Give it a go...
As others have said don't be put off by the bad reviews. If I had left a review after the first episode it would have been different to the one I'm writing today, in fact I only stuck with it because there is such a great cast.
It's a good drama but the 'wanderlust' is only a tiny part of it. As the story unfolds you get to know Joy through a series of flashbacks and her own counselling sessions.
I marked down a point because I'm not sure the storylines involving her Son and Daughter added much to it, the Son especially.
I've really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the final episode
