Save the Last Dance (2001)
The whole concept in itself is stupid.
What is the point of this movie? Or should I say, is there a point made in this movie that actually has any intelligence to it? Here's the plot...and you're apparently supposed to gain some sort of "insight" from this, but here it is...if you're a white girl from the midwest you better not date black men from the projects or you'll get treated with unkind gestures(ouch!) from black ladies who'll claim you "steal the one decent black man"(oh no she didn't!) in the neighborhood. This movie is stupid. It plays on all the lame stereotypes this society has put on us, and plays on the whole "forbidden" race issue. This movie makes me sick in my stomach.
Don't get your life lessons from Hollywood. If you think this movie makes any sort of positive point you need to get a life.
Citizen Kane (1941)
The birth of modern cinema.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS Even though I think this is possibly the best movie ever made, I can actually understand why someone would not like it. There is some research that needs to be done before seeing Kane to fully understand it's importance on the film industry, even up to today.
There are little things about Kane that one may not know without doing some reading beforehand. For example, little things we take for granted in movies today were done first in Citizen Kane, like the filming of scenes that showed ceilings. Kane was the first Hollywood picture that had a storyline that wasn't beginning/middle/end, but on the contrary, the main character(Kane) dies at the beginning of the movie. The use of deep focus photography, ect ect. It may be a lot of boring tech stuff, but without knowing how it was used in Kane would take away from the experience when watching it.
Then of course, is the comparison with William Randolf Hearst, which I won't go into because you can read about that in your own spare time.
To me, this film is a brilliant display of the psychology behind a man who has SO much, but at the same time has less than the poorest individuals alive.
If you do the research before seeing this film, then I would say it would be well worth seeing. In fact, I would say it's a must see.
Metallica: Some Kind of Monster (2004)
This band has lost all concept of reality.
We live in a world where terrorism, unemployment, poverty, corrupt politicians, and various other problems loom over us everyday. So it was very hard for me to feel any bit of remorse or sorrow for some pitiful, rich, rock stars who just sit around and talk about their "problems". Do they think people should really care? How am I supposed to relate to Lars and his million dollar art collection, and then have to listen to him bitch about everything. James whines about missing his sons first birthday...well duh, maybe he should've thought about that before he went out drinking and hunting bears, or whatever it was. I used to absolutey worship Metallica. I met them when I was sixteen and thought that I would die a happy man after that. That was many years ago, and my oh my have times changed. It was painful to watch this film, and even more painful to think that Metallica was actually the band I was watching. They have lost it, in every sense of the word.
Hated: GG Allin & the Murder Junkies (1993)
If you want to know GG, watch this film.
Many people, like myself, heard all the wild stories about GG Allin. I thought I had seen it all, or at least, could picture it all. NOTHING in my lifetime had remotely prepared me for this documentary/film. Sure, someone could tell you, "He craps on stage and smears it on his face, then throws it at the audience. Then he goes into the audience and beats the hell out of people", or, "He had a prostitute pee and his mouth and then he threw up while continuing to drink the urine". Of course you'd either laugh or cringe, but no matter what you're thinking, it's nothing like sitting there and actually watching these events take place in front of you. It will cause you to question many things, and wonder what happened to Allin in his lifetime to want to destroy himself in the manner that he did. He takes every possible degration and humiliation and makes it his life's blood. The interviews with his brother, friends, and former band mates are a great source of information, but the interviews with Allin himself will grab your attention the most. He reeks of desperation, patheticness, and anger. He was a man who could actually claim he had no morals and meant it, all the while you may find yourself not being able to help but feel sorry for him. It's an amazing thing to watch, and possible the most disturbing. Many people I know could not watch it more than once. I recommend that you do.
Coyote Ugly (2000)
Stupid, unimaginative, pointless, ect.ect.
I wish I had more arms, so I could give this movie four thumbs down!! How do movies like this get made? Even worse, how does anyone on earth watch this without wanting to kill themselves afterward? Hey, I'm the little innocent girl from nowhere and I want to do something with my life...so yeah, I'll move to the BIG city and, oh my, it's so much harder to live there. Gee, I'll get a job at a bar...oh my goodness, what are they doing on that bar? Blah blah blah...it's horrible. Don't watch it, you've been warned. If you do watch it, and actually like it, you have no concept of reality, and no taste as far as movies go.
Rotten TV (2000)
Hilarious and sarcastic.
I was so happy when John Lydon's series started on Vh1, and so sad that only 3 episodes aired. From interviewing Danny Devito to getting thrown out of the Roseanne talk show, or destroying a priceless Sid Vicious letter, it never failed to entertain. I would still watch it to this day if it still aired. It was just amazing.
House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
Worst movie EVER.
Is it possible for a movie to be made that is so horrible that words haven't been invented yet that describe the levels of suck this movie achieves? Well, if there are, I don't know them. Just thinking about how terrible this movie is makes me angry. Angry to know that I actually wasted my time watching this wretched thing. The funny thing is, I waited forever, like many did, for this to be released. I think Zombie said that nobody would touch it for the violence and gore factor. I disagree. No one would pick it up because it's crap. God this movie sucks...hard. Let me just make sure my point is clear...THIS MOVIE IS BEYOND HORRIBLE!! IT SUCKS!! STAY AWAY!! NEVER WATCH IT!!
