Amazon Fishbowl with Bill Maher (2006)
Great interviewing, really funny stuff
I have to say, I have no idea if this is a TV show in the states or just on Amazons website, but this is great stuff.
Now that the lines between TV and NetTV are so blurred where producers are able to get more revenue through the net than the networks on TV, its great to see decent content rather than more boring YouTube videos of girls dancing and guys prank their friends.
Expect to see top quality interviewing and a great show. Just finished watching the interview with Tim Olyphant, will give that interview 8 out of 10, great.
The interviewer has great chemistry and audience know when to laugh at the right moments, that always helps.
I was a bit annoyed to see an Amazon show, and was quite ready for a boring and annoying show of adverts and kissing up to the stars, I was very happy to be wrong.
Mr. Majeika (1988)
An unappreciated gem
This show was a rare gem of British family fun. Unappreciated at its time, it came and went without a big fuss.
Although while it was here, even the children at school would be making references to Mr Majeika.
Not as cool and trendy as other shows of its time, it would have been a huge hit just a few years earlier. Bring back shows like this, and we would have a nicer world to live in ;)
Stanley Baxter was a true British treasure, and this was one of his last vehicles. Should have been a bigger bang to an end of a great TV and Film career. Watch if you are a fan of classic British humour and innocent and charming fun.
Roadkill (2001)
Decent Thriller, leaves you in suspense
From the start of the film you know that you are watching a film that does exactly what it says on the tin. Expect to watch a movie about the road, and about killing.
I don't want to spoil the movie so wont go into detail. It is pretty obvious what will happen throughout the film though, but it does a good job keeping your heart rate high and keeping you in suspense.
I enjoyed it and I do not watch many horrors or thrillers these days, my girlfriend enjoyed it and she is more of a hard core thriller and horror fan. So I can guess that its good for people of various tastes.
I have just watched this movie now on TV. So I am not sure just how edited it has been for violence, but it was pretty late so I'm assuming not much has been changed. Give it a go, if you don't like it, you wont feel like it was a complete waste of time, as I am sure there is something there for everyone to enjoy, at least a little bit.
Troy (2004)
Bad Acting and A bad Script make for an okay film
If you are going to watch this film then don't pay for it, get a friend to rent it, borrow a copy or watch it on TV. That way you wont feel the extra disappointment of knowing you spent your money on the film.
If you want to watch a film loosely based on the Iliad then watch this film, for a more accurate telling of the story watch the TV movie "Helen of Troy" 2003. Its still flawed but has better acting from stars without big names and is better written. It also makes more of an attempt to follow the story more.
I had spent years waiting for this film and unlike the LOTR trilogy or even Spiderman this film could not live up to the hype. I feel sorry for Eric Bana, he gets great films with so much hype but the acting and scripts turn out to be tripe. At least he managed to get a great film under his belt (go see Chopper).
All these bad films tend to destroy the old saying "a picture is worth a thousand words". I think I am happier with the original books and letting my imagination be the director for the images in my head.
A Man Betrayed (1941)
A charming performance
John Wayne has the ability to shine through even the poorest of scripts. Its an interesting story where the Duke has to deal with his morals and conscience when moving to a corrupt city and falls in love with a dirty politicians daughter.
Francis Dee and Wayne have good on screen chemistry but this can be seen as the strength of Waynes acting rather Dees performance.
The show has the classic 40s slapstick comic relief. If you want to sit with some Wayne nostalgia then you will enjoy this movie. But if your looking for an exciting story with a well written script and good acting, then don't rush to this movie. It not a classic of the 40s, but its a classic example of 40s movies :-)
