Gojira -1.0 (2023)
Now that's how you make a Godzilla movie
Having watched possibly all major monster movies on the planet, I can confidently say that "Godzilla Minus One" stands out as one of the best Godzilla movies ever made. From its compelling story to its impressive screenplay, acting, VFX, direction, and all other departments, this film delivers on every front.
What sets this movie apart is its strong human element and the interaction between the characters. Surprisingly, it's these aspects that resonated with me the most, even in a Godzilla movie where one might expect the focus to be primarily on the monsters.
In conclusion, "Godzilla Minus One" is a must-watch for any fan of the genre. It not only delivers thrilling monster action but also offers a captivating story with well-developed characters and compelling human drama.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
Don't understand all the criticism against this move
As an avid Indiana Jones fan, I can say that "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" is the right send-off for our beloved archaeologist-adventurer, Indiana Jones. This film masterfully combines the best elements of action, acting, music, screenplay, and direction, paying homage to the iconic character's legacy while delivering a thrilling and emotional conclusion. Harrison Ford, reprising his role as Indiana Jones, gives a performance that reminds us why he is the only one who can truly embody this character. His charisma, wit, and undeniable charm shine through, making it abundantly clear that Ford was born to play this role. The chemistry between Ford and his co-stars, including a brilliant Phoebe Waller-Bridge, is amazing, adding depth to the story.
The action sequences in "Dial of Destiny" are nothing short of spectacular. James Mangold the Director has tried to match the first 3 movies in crafting heart-pounding and inventive action scenes that pay tribute to the classic Indy style while infusing new energy into the franchise. John Williams, the maestro behind the iconic Indiana Jones theme, delivers yet another unforgettable score. His music is not just a soundtrack but a character in itself, heightening the emotional resonance of key moments and elevating the overall cinematic experience.
The screenplay, penned with utmost care and respect for the character's history, cleverly weaves together elements from the previous films. It's a love letter to long-time fans, with subtle references and nods that only true Indy aficionados will catch. The story is engaging, filled with unexpected twists and turns, and provides a satisfying narrative arc for our hero. The direction by James Mangold deserves special praise for capturing the essence of the Indiana Jones franchise while pushing the boundaries of what an adventure film can be. The film's visual style is breathtaking, transporting audiences to exotic locations and ancient ruins, all beautifully shot.
Critics may argue that the film relies too heavily on nostalgia, but I believe that this is precisely what makes it so special. "Dial of Destiny" is a heartfelt farewell to a character who has been a part of our lives for decades. It's a love letter to the fans who have followed Indy's adventures from the very beginning. To those who have grievances with the film, I can only say this: sometimes, our expectations can be so high, and our attachment to a character so strong, that it's challenging for any film to meet them. "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" may not reinvent the wheel, but it doesn't need to. It honours the spirit of adventure, archaeology, and heroism that made us fall in love with Indiana Jones in the first place.
In conclusion, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" is a befitting end to the Indiana Jones saga. It's a film that celebrates the character's enduring legacy, offers a thrilling cinematic experience, and tugs at the heartstrings of fans. It reminds us that, sometimes, a great film doesn't have to redefine a genre; it just needs to remind us why we fell in love with it in the first place. This is an ode to Indiana Jones that fans will cherish for years to come.
Glass Onion (2022)
Will keep you hooked throughout the movie
Knives out was intelligent, intriguing with quirky characters and surprising twists. If you enjoyed Knives out, you will enjoy the 'Glass Onion' as well'. There were portions in the movie where i wanted to forward and know who the perpetrator was.
I wanted to highlight something to all the movie fans. There are different types of critiques and movie lovers who enjoy different genres. Then there are who nit pick and want the screenplay, story to be at the pinnacle of their 'perfection'. Ignore those people and don't go by their reviews.
You will enjoy this movie if you have a taste for a unique, different thriller story.
Kantara (2022)
An amazing experience at cinemas
Had a fantastic and amazing time at the cinemas. There are very few stories which can transcend beyond screen and remain in people's minds. This is one such film. When a movie has tried to depict and portray with such conviction and purity. You find it challenging to rate / review it.
The director of this movie Rishab shetty who also is the main lead mentioned the most rooted storied have a global appeal as well, which is true. Instead of trying to ape other industry's movies. Movie makers should also focus on telling stories that is closer to their land. This is a must watch for all movie lovers.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Hands down one the best spiderman movies ever produced
Some background before the review: My first ever superhero movie in a theater back in 2003 was Spiderman and since then I have had admiration for the web slinger. When Ironman released in 2008 my admiration gravitated towards Tony Stark / Ironman and he is still my favorite. After watching No way home I realized my life and the Peter Parker's life has come to full circle.
This is one of the best Spiderman / superhero movie made over the Years. Story, Screenplay, Acting, Music, VFX. All the departments have done their job well.
It's a unimaginable vision brought to fruition.
Doctor (2021)
A fantastic dark comedy in Tamil cinema - Kudos to Director Nelson
Watched Doctor.
A fantastic dark comedy. Enjoyed the movie throughly. We have witnessed traditional and straight forward comedy stories mostly where the humour is either a separate track or it's weaved into the storyline. Director Nelson understands the genre and also have kept audience sensibilities into consideration while creating this movie. The screenplay at times is a bit dragging but it's justified when you look at the movie overall.
The background score, story, Sivakarthikeyan's stoic acting, Redin kingsley's quirky dialogues, Yogi Babu's comedic timing blends well together. Shout out to actor Deepa shankar and her performance.
Overall this Doctor will heal you from all your worries and sadness temporarily.
Doctor - Operation Successful ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Soorarai Pottru (2020)
An inspiriting story crafted well by director Sudha - Take a bow!
If you are from the 90's era you would remember VHS tape, CD's, DVD's, if you had any favorite movie you would purchase a copy so you can rewatch it later. Movies released in this era are being quickly forgotten, thanks to technology(Double edged sword).
Soorarai Pottru is one such movie which deserves a place in the personal movie collection and would go on to become one of the best movies of Tamil cinema. If this movie would have released in theaters would have definitely shattered the box office records and created a positive wave.
A critic can be nitpicky about even the best movies ever made, but now is not that time. Kudos to the entire team of 'Soorarai Pottru' for producing this rare gem.
Kaappaan (2019)
Riddled by plot holes and illogical screenplay - But entertaining
When you watch movies because of a director, then you are hoping for a quality experience. Because of their past track record with good story, screenplay, dialogue and direction. KV Anand's past movies have been a mixed bag in terms of quality.
Does the movie have issues with story, character arc, screenplay? Absolutely.
Does the movie entertain you at the end of it? Well it depends on your movie taste. Did it entertain me? Absolutely. Will I recommend you watch it? Yes, but only once.
One of the well known movie critic once said "when you review a movie, you review on it's own merits and not according to the standards you as reviewer set or benchmark the movie against the director's past movies or other movies in it's genre"
Justice League (2017)
Got served some Justice and it was delicious
Before I delve into my review. Few questions to be answered.
1. Does this movie deserve so much hate that it's receiving from Critics? No
2. Can you watch this movie in theaters? Definitely
3. How was the movie? - It was an enjoyable experience
Justice league was thoroughly entertaining. Being a huge Marvel fan I would always prefer MCU over DCEU, but Justice league changed my mind. Had no preconceived notion or expectations before entering the hall and it helped.
There are three major categories of movie watchers:
1. Critics 2. Fans 3. Normal movie goers
JL will surely entertain 2nd and 3rd category. It has it's flaws, but you watch a movie to get yourself immersed and enjoy the experience. If a movie manages to keep it's audience engaged throughout, it has succeeded. Ignore the naysayers and biased critics. Definitely better than suicide squad and BVS.
Had to write this review to ensure self proclaimed pseudo critics don't spoil entertaining movies for audiences. I am looking forward towards the next Justice league movie.
Steve Jobs (2015)
Jobs(2013) far better than Steve jobs(2015)-Boring!!!
Usually I like conversation movies and the way main characters are portrayed in their roles. But this movie Bored me to death. I am glad I did not watch this movie in the theaters. As I was very excited when the trailer came out. The Jobs movie that came out during 2013 by Ashton Kutcher is far better than this movie.
If you wan't to know what happened in the Background of every product launch, relationship with his daughter Lisa, relationship with the man who fired Mr Jobs(John sculley), relationship with his co-founder(Wozniak), relationship with Joanna Hoffman(His right hand), relationship with Andy hertzfeld and on.
The only thing that shines in the movie are the actors Micheal, Kate, Jeff, Seth & Micheal Stuhlbarg. This movie looked more like a documentary than a movie. I am disappointed with Danny Boyle and Alan Sorkin.
Bãhubali: The Beginning (2015)
3 years of waiting - Baahubali is Born and I am zoned out!
The first movie in the history of Indian cinema that set standards at the international level was movie 'Endhiran' and now we have 'Baahubali' as I had watched Troy, Lord of the rings, Hobbit was expecting something unique and I was not disappointing.
I was astonished and there are multiple jaw dropping moments in the movie and you will wonder how was that shot. Don't listen to anyone just go watch this movie in Theaters along with your friends so you can scream and shout when there are mind blowing scenes on the screen.
The action sequences, Acting, Visual effects, Cinematography, story and most importantly subtitles for the audience who can't the language. Also you will find a cameo from an unexpected person. I waited for 3 years for this movie will wait for another year for the part 2 to release. #Baahubali #Jai Mahishmathi
Cheers, Neo
PK (2014)
Brings a Metamorphosis (Transformation) within you!
*****THERE ARE NO SPOILERS*****
OH MY GOD! This experience (movie) made me think deeply and will bring a 'Transformation' within you. I should have watched this movie in the first week of its release but due to non-availability of tickets I couldn't watch and I was very sure on not knowing to story or plot of the movie and walked into the cinema hall open- minded, now finally experienced this movie.
The story\concept explored in this movie is not new to the Indian audience, but when it is told by one of best director and best actor of India it gives altogether A WHOLE NEW OUTLOOK towards the message the movie is conveying. Until there is a strong emotion in the movie it doesn't move me but some portions of the experience made me cry and tears rolled. If you ask me, how is the Story, Screenplay, acting, cinematography, Direction, Dialogues, Costume, Makeup etc. etc. couldn't find any faults because I was immersed in this wonderful experience (I know sounds clichéd) but that's what it is.
I would like to share what I learnt from this movie: There is only one 'GOD' and it is humans who have created all these different religions based on their comfort & cunning. Remember when you are talking to God you are not actually talking to him you are actually talking with yourself who is listening. I am very well aware that this is not a 'review' as I am sharing my experience with you all on how this movie moved me and made me introspect, hope you watch this experience have a wonderful time and awaken the common sense which has been sleeping for so many years(Oops – no offense )
Cheers,
THEONE
P.S: Go watch this movie. Time to awake my fellow beings!
Mary Kom (2014)
A biopic on Indian women boxing champion - Must watch for all sports enthusiast
I am a hard core movie fan and I was impressed after watching the trailer of 'MARY KOM' and decided that I have to watch this movie. I have always been a big fan of sports movies be it Chak De India, Iqbal or Lagaan. The movie is a 'Biopic' of Indian Boxer 'Mary Kom' who hails from Manipur. How she becomes Boxer, relationship with her father, struggles in career, discovering her husband and other hurdles faced on road to being a champion.
What works in the movie?
Acting: A brilliant portrayal by Priyanka chopra s Mary Kom, she has worked really hard for the film and you can clearly see that effort visible on the screen both physically (Training) and mentally (Acting).
Cinematography: I must really applaud the way the cinematographer has pictured the boxing ring, locations, moods, emotions, lighting. Really good job.
Music & BGM: The nom is, sports movies shouldn't have songs but major movie going population in India is accustomed to songs and the Director has managed to place the songs subtly in the movie intelligently.
What doesn't work?
Editing: Editing is very important aspect of the movie, it majorly determines the big factor 'length' The movie is about 2 hour 5 minutes and for a Biopic I thought this wasn't enough, it needed to be a bit long.
Fight sequences: I was disappointed with the fight sequences in the movie. The boxing match that takes place in the ring should have been better choreographed, c'mon? You are showing a world champion boxer you got to get it as close to reality as possible. No comparisons but see the movie 'Million Dollar baby'.
Direction and Screenplay: I think the director should have worked better on the screenplay which keeps the audiences hooked to the screen; there were moments where I was not interested on what's going in the screen. It's a challenging job for the director to capture a biopic as you cannot make major alterations to the story and you have to keep it as close to the reality.
After watching this movie my respect towards Priyanka as an Actor has increased to the next level and I knew Mary Kom is a boxer in India but after this movie she holds highest respect as a sports person in my world. I give this movie a 7/10 and I would recommend a onetime watch.
Oh and more point: You should stand up at the end of the movie if you are an 'Indian'
Godzilla (2014)
Irony of the movie - a movie about Godzilla but you hardly see the Godzilla
I was very exited about this movie when it came out and wanted to watch it because after 16 years (Godzilla 1998) a movie about Godzilla was coming out and it was one of my childhood favorite movies. I thought with 2014 writers being smart, the VFX being outstanding and Directors being sharp they would make a 'Kickass movie'But... as the old adage goes 'expectations always disappoint'. I was let down!
What's wrong with the production company, how do they approve such scrips? The 1998 Godzilla was far better than 2014 Godzilla. How come the Godzilla a ferocious monster is friendly towards humans??? I feel cheated. Glad that I did not watch this movie in the theater and waited for it to see on DVD. I rate this movie a 3/10
1. For Bryan Cranston 2. For Good music and BGM 3. For VFX - Visual effects.
Cheers, Neo
Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014)
Oh movie god please make this movie 'extinct from earth' !
I am in state where I am not finding words to describe how this movie made me wish 'I was extinct' or I was born after this 'Age of extinction'. Normally I like majority of the movies, even if majority of the movie lovers feel it's a crap. I enjoyed transformers 1, 2 and even 3. But Transforms 4 - where should I start.
1. The length of the movie(running time) - 165 minutes - 2.45 hours - I was frequently looking at my phone to check what was the time, during 1st and 2nd half instead of watching the movie.
2. The story - I am just wondering why aren't there strong writes on the board and what are the producers doing splurging 210 million dollars on a story without good writers.
3. The screenplay - Apart from few wonderful camera work, Visual effects, Acting the way movie progressed, its pace, plot's, twists, were like 'Galvatron's face' is what I thought.
4. The Acting - We have some wonderful actors on board: Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammar & Nicola Peltz, their acting was really wonderful. But because of a bad 'direction' at some stages made them look bad. Not efficiently portrayed them.
5. Action: Majority of the transformers fan's come watch Transformer's series for it's wonderful action sequences. A car, A truck, A plane, A tanker... transforming back and forth is a visual treat. But "Arghhh" (Expression of disappointment) it was not as expected, some of the scene's were so 'Blah'(Dull or unexciting) and Major repetitive from the previous transformers.
As I said in the beginning of my review that I couldn't find words to express due to which I have used such words in my review. If you are a huge transformers fan go watch it, but if you ask I would say wait until it hit's the DVD or the TV - Save your (Dollar, Pounds, Rupees or Renminbi) your respective money! I rate this movie 3/10.
Cheers! Movie devotee
Man of Steel (2013)
Our all time favorite superhero returns to the BIG screen
*****THERE ARE NO SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW***** For all the comic and movie lovers around the world perhaps Superman happens to be one of the all time favorite superhero's of all time. We have tried to imitate him by tying a towel around our shoulders, we have worn T-shirts with the famous 'S' symbol on it, we have action figures of him, and we use his name in quotes, tag-lines and what not.
After a long wait the "MAN OF STEEL" returns to the big screen in a gigantic way. Warner brothers, DC comics and the Director 'Zack Snyder' and his team had a humongous pressure and responsibility on their shoulders to RE-BOOOT the Superman franchise. So to ensure they don't blow this out of proportion they got the perfect technician on board 'Sir Chris Nolan' as one of the writers of the movie, which was a good move.
I liked this Superman movie comparing to others because it provides background information on Superman's origin, his parents, why he lands on earth, his childhood, how does he finds about his power, his fears, all in a structured way. I think none of the earlier Superman movies did that. I also found out his real Krypton name which I didn't know before. All I can say is you would thoroughly enjoy the movie from start to end, so go for it and take the flight with the 'MAN OF STEEL' and watch him fight for his loved ones. I give this movie a 9/10.
