A Town Called Malice (2023)
Ignore the haters
Was thinking this wouldn't my kind of programme but im Ep6 and i can't stop watching. Fantastic music and takes you right back if you were around in the eighties. Each episode ends on you wanting to see more and its absolutely brilliant. Yes it's got bits like a music video but it's supposed to be a bit of tongue and cheek humour. Noones looking for absolutely amazing South london accents and to be fair, martha plimpton nails it. Ignore the haters. Acted, shot and directed perfectly. Brilliant cast. Too many reviewers taking it way too serious like its another guy richie gangster flick. Honestly it's a great watch.
Shark Bait (2022)
Absolutely no sympathy
Currently I am 20 minutes into this film and already I'm annoyed by the characters . Drunken idiots steal jetskis and start to deliberately aim at each other. Unsurprisingly, they crash !!! They leave their belongs on the jetty, phones too. One girl (don't know their names) has her phone and miraculously, even after being in the water, it works but surprise surprise there is no signal. They're not actually that far from help but decide to sit arguing and drifting out. One girl is sleeping with the other girls boyfriend and his girlfriend finds photos on his phone while shining it at the sun for attention !!! Pretty obvious what happens next.... they fight over the phone and she drops in the sea.
I'll see if it gets better or worse. Have to see it through once a movies on.
So it gets no better. Now at sea for 24 hours, no food or drink or sun screen !! Milly now needs a life jacket from the dead floating guy theyve come across (imagine that when in the middle of the ocean with mules of nothing around you) cause she can't swim. They've got some driftwood from floating guys boat and start paddling to nowhere because they have no idea where they are going. I'd have been dead by now with heatstroke.
Somehow the other girl has started the jet ski but not before the shark mounted it. Shark is now chasing the jetski and eating chunks out of it. How the heck anyone wrote good reviews is beyond me. Avoid avoid avoid.
The Beast Must Die (2020)
Too long and obvious
Love Cush jumbo so when I saw this on britbox, I had to watch. Very drawn out and you know from the get go who's done it. Thought there would be some kind of twist other than "francis" killed the killer after all.
The main police man has ptsd and manic outbursts which are not in line with story whatsoever.
My biggest concern is that, this series heavily featured mental illnesses. Nigel,Francis, violet and maybe Phil.
Francis told the police she wanted to kill George, admits to seeing her dead son and attempts suicide (1st time) and yet she walks away from the hospital like nothings happened !!! Erm really ?? Surely she's needs some kind of intervention st the least.
Very poor disservice to mental health problems, just glossed over or made out to be a loony (joy)
Could have been done in 3 episodes.
The Wrong Missy (2020)
NOT Adam Sandler
Just to note that Sandler is neither in it, directed it or wrote it. Yes it's happy madison productions, and same cast including his wife, nephew and kids !!! But he's not even credited for it.
New Town Killers (2008)
Seen same in other films.
All I can say is the main character is THE worst person to ever play hide amd seek. First off, dump your clothes in case they have you tracked and your phone. Hide in sewer or a car or anything but run around the streets in full view. Great actors in a poor movie. Seen similar plot with most dangerous game, the hunt etc.
The Control Room (2022)
Lead actor is terrible
Half way through ep2 and not sure if I can make through. Terrible character. Bumbling about and what's with telling his boss everything?!?! Think I'll just read the ending because it's really not very good.
Girl in the Picture (2022)
Disturbing
Put this on and was shocked at every new lead and aspect of this story. Very well told and deeply disturbing. That man is utterly insane. The only question which wasn't answered for me was , who were the real father's of her (tonya) children? Her biological mother has alot to answer for. Not sure what happened there but certainly didn't do a good job of searching for her daughter. Incredibly sad story.
Most Dangerous Game (2020)
Honestly don't bother
Had to sign in just to wrote this review. This film is beyond stupid. For a trained athlete, he could have run anywhere. Goes to church, the priest is the hunter dressed up in all the gear too. How did he even know he would go there. The river boat is even more ridiculous. Steals a ticket at the last minute and the waitress is a hunter !!!!! Its driving me mad but I have to finish what I started. Please don't waste your time.
Stay Close (2021)
Don't understand the bad reviews
On episode 4 and so far is brilliant. Great twists and turns and stellar cast. Only odd thing is "Ken" and "barbie" characters which are odd to say the least. Hoping for a decent ending but very enjoyable so far.
The Lost Daughter (2021)
Not sure.
Very dark and depressing actually. Well acted but must be me, I don't understand the other family at all. I get Nina but not the aunt !! Obviously some underlying thing I've not grasped. Turns out Leda is really just a selfish mean woman who's lost.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
Resting Bi*** face
Not a bad story but Chris rocks "deep in thought" face was so off putting. Easier to follow than the previous saw stories but no where near as good. And the voice on the tape was awfully annoying too.
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Don't watch dubbed version
Starting watching in English dubbed and found it to be more amusing than anything. Switched to Korean with subtitles after episode 2 and reading various stories of wrong translation being used. Decent watch but predictable outcome which makes the games less interesting (when you know x y or z is in the next episode) ok twist but frustrating ending. Spoiler alert- who let's a debt ridden drunk just walk away with a random kid who he then leaves with his aunt ?!?!
Maid (2021)
I get the good reviews
I do get the good reviews but some of the episodes are so frustrating !!! Seriously the amount of help she's offered that she just turns down is ridiculous. Struggling so much and with a daughter to think of, I'd have put my ego to one side and excepted help. Not sure how she manages to hold the job down because she's off on errands of mercy or nosing around so much. And how much does that kid sleep !!!
Decent story and acting and worth a watch but definitely couldn't binge watch like other shows. Let's see how it ends.
The Guilty (2021)
Sort of ok
I quite enjoyed it having not realised it was a remake. A bit frustrated by the anger shown and also, it seemed to be filmed in real time but the call starts around 2am and ends at 6am. Where did the 4 hours go ?!?
Everybody's Talking About Jamie (2021)
A real watch
Fantastic lead actor. Great story and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm a northerner so was great to watch something different. Loads of good songs. Not everyone's taste because it is very musical but I loved it. Great cast. Sarah Lancashire doing what she's does best.
Malignant (2021)
Don't watch
Walked out half way through. Utter garbage. Read the ending and glad I didn't bother staying. Save your money, you'll thank me.
Edit. Went in for last ten minutes to get my friend. Questions. Did she learn Kung fu from Gabriel ? Haha. Why couldn't she be shot ? Who "taught" her to "act" ? Terrifying. Did she just walk away without any charges ? Her sister and mum were killed but then, when she'd controlled Gabriel, they were alive. If that's the case, did everyone else survive. Weirdest film ever. Very B movie standard and obviously that's what the director was going for but painful to watch. More comedy/martial art/sci fi rubbish than horror. Just loads of gore.
Little Fires Everywhere (2020)
Witherspoon brilliant, Washington, mmmm !!!
Only on episode 4 but feel so drained watching Mia's miserable face and have her eyes well up at single little thing she doesn't have control over. When her daughter is just enjoying herself she has to remind she doesn't fit in, drags her place to place, changing schools. The best part so far was when Pearl gave her a mouthful and I usually hate disrespectful kids. Her attitude is downright rude to absolutely everybody, like saying hello is so hard. When she gives the distasteful look to the parents who legally adopted their daughter !!! Like they stole her. In fact the aftermath of what she does is just pure evil. Dropped a star cause of it. It's really putting me off. Rest of cast are brilliant. Pearl is an amazing young actress.
A
Edit. Couldn't stand it any longer so read the reviews about the ending. Glad I didn't watch or a shoe shaped break would have happened to my tv.
If you root for the bad guys and blame every white rich person for s*** in your life, watch it.
Hit and Run (2021)
Weirdly fanciable
Omg loved it. Please be a second season. Lots of subtitles so beware if that's not your thing. Twists and turns everywhere. Yes some are quite obvious but still, really good thriller series for once.
Aftermath (2021)
What do people want ?
Have to say, don't often write reviews but this film I had too. Not sure why the low scores, loads of thriller action, scares and horror. Personally frightened myself so much, could only watch an hour of it alone in the dark so finished it this morning. Great story line. Yes certain aspects have been done before but we're quite far into the film before you realise.
SPOIlER
I did have an inkling someone might be in the walls but thought it was the brother in law. Does get a bit lost here as to why the guy never left when he wasn't locked in !!! That's why I dropped a couple of stars but overall a great watch.
Edit- read some peoples reviews mentioning that the sister disappeared and it was never spoke of again !!! She was the corpse in bed for gods sake.
The Deep End (2001)
Decent but left wondering why? .....
Quite a decent film but tildas monotone voice and the zero emotion shown to any event was a bit weird. Obviously the character has a lot going but why why why.
SPOILER
so dumps the body in a cove near her house. Why not the bloody huge massive ocean where it could never be found ??? Oh yes, to retrieve the car keys !!! Arghhh.
Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
Hoped for more
Very disappointed. I thought the acting from "Rachel" was awful and cheesy. I actually thought she was meant to be bad until her friend "Peik lin goh" played the cheesy joker. Now she was funny and the best part of the film. Gemma chan would have fitted the part of Rachel a lot more. Ken jeong was a delight to watch as usual but overall the acting was very high school drama production.
What/If (2019)
Totally binge watched in a day.
I never really write reviews but after reading the tosh written on here, I had too. I can only think people have either only watched a couple of episodes or had watched something else entirely! The anthology totally made sense and was brilliantly interwoven in each episode. I'm a horror/ thriller gal usually but I couldn't switch this off. Yes, some of the acting wasn't the best ( Carlos) and a few cringing scenes (kevin/Carlos/ Lionel) but it fitted together beautifully. I think what people are missing and making out as irrelevant, are twists that go beyond their intellect. Every single character has a point that's tied into what the series was actually trying to say.... what/if
The Hole (2009)
Not for kids
Great movie and scared the heck out me. And I'm a adult. Plays on your fears and childhood memories. Hate clowns. Better than some actual adult horrors without the gore and crudeness.
Gone (2017)
A better lead actress required
As with other honest reviews, I can't get my head around Kick/Kit/Beth, being able to go straight into the field with a gun. Nowhere near as good as law and order suv or criminal minds. Lead actress is very under whelming. Will try 2 nd episode but so far, it's not one to watch.
