The Great Wall (2016)
Don't waste your money
Total disaster! I can not think of one redeeming reason to see this. I'm glad it was a matinée. I can suspend belief with movies but this was just a bridge too far! The script writing was clunky, there was little to no chemistry between the main characters. I'm not exactly sure why William DaFoe was even in the movie. Stay away!
Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)
I can't believe I paid $8.00!
There was not one redeeming quality to this movie; in fact, the producers should be force to refund our money. No chemistry, no humor, not one good scene, rather, we spent the ride home listing the top 10 worst scenes only to realize we needed a Top 100 list!
There were multiple disjointed scenes where the script writer obviously was not concerned. For example, in the opening scenes, we're told of a world at peace where there had been no wars for 20 years. A couple of scenes, we're treated to a scene where a "warlord" is introduced who appeared anything but peaceful.
Bill Pullman needs a cane at the beginning of the movie, near the end, he's a Top Gun pilot willing to sacrifice his life to deliver the package. The list could go on. It really was that bad.
Do not waste your time. I was prepared for a mediocre film that was mildly entertaining but rather received a movie that was beyond bad.
If you feel you must see it, wait a year and go pick up a discounted copy in a reduced price bin at Walmart.
You have been warned!
The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014)
Delightful movie
We all knew by the previews this was going to be a feel good movie and it delivered. Sure, there were forced parts and as you would expect, a certain amount of contrivance but these minor parts did not detract from the film whatsoever in my view.
All four lead characters were tremendous with Helen Mirren leading the way. She really plays her role well.
The plot is predictable as one would suspect but there were some minor twists with Hassan Kadam. It was clear he would would return because at the end of the day, family is important. I just expected him to have returned earlier.
So, if you're looking for a more mature feel good movie with your husband or wife, this is it. You won't be disappointed.
Godzilla (2014)
Gojira from the 1950's and 1960's better
I was totally underwhelmed by the movie. Nice CGI but that is not surprising; I would have been surprised if it wasn't. Decent fights, but no better than the 1950's versions with the exceptions of the special effects capabilities.
Horrible subplots in my view. There was very little if any chemistry between any of the main characters. The Japanese professor was clumsy and seemed in a daze or fog most of the time. Indiscriminate firing by the military rarely puts them in a good light by the way.
In my view, if Godzilla is going to end up being the good guy and save the world, perhaps the producers should have had all of human kind just a little grateful...just saying.
Glad I caught a matinée and not full price!
