Baby Reindeer (2024)
Truly amazing.
As someone who has experienced male adult rape myself, this was difficult to watch. However, I related to the main character, his journey into recovery. I also hated my abuser and found friendships with characters who were unhealthy for me. My abuser groomed me to a point that I rationalised the abuse as normal.
This series is not about a stalker in my opinion. It's about trauma and the crazy things we do, and the crazy people we align ourselves with when we lose a piece of ourselves. I finished the show in 2 days and I will be thinking about it for weeks to come. I've never written a review before but wanted to share with everyone how this affected me.
We Own This City (2022)
I'm confused
Am I the only one finding this hard to follow. Drugs are being sold, white cops are bad and corrupt, there are a few cool black ones and some black lady who's investigating the bad cops. Throw in some raids and citizens being assaulted by the white cops and you get the mess that is this show. Total waste of my time. Is there a story I should be following?
Landscapers (2021)
Great except the last episode
This was a great and at times funny show. Telling a story in such a different way was entertaining and enjoyable. The actors were brilliant and the story very interesting. What lost me and reduced my 8/10 to 6/10 was the last episode. I looked to my partner and said, are we still watching the same show. I got the impression they changed directors for the last episode, it became confusing and ridiculous. Loved the first 3 episodes but the last one ruined it for us. They totally changed the direction and formular of the show.
I Am...: I Am Danielle (2021)
Forced Woke BS
Painfully boring lead character and a pathetic unbelievable storyline. No chemistry between the lead characters. The lead was needy, high maintenance and plain annoying.
Black Mirror: White Bear (2013)
Worst episode of the series.
The forced whimpering and crying throughout the episode made it annoying to watch. Weak acting, felt like a children's program.
The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things (2004)
Disturbing but equally as real
Absolutely disturbing movie but an excellent take on this subject matter.
Once Were Warriors (1994)
Powerful
Excellent movie showing the lives of people living on the lower rung of society.
The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)
One of my favourite movies
I can watch this movie again and again and take something different from it. Such a beautiful movie, excellent acting, constantly evolving storyline, and a great ending. Everyone I know loves this movie.
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
Season 1,2,&3 Worth 10. Season 4 Sucks
This show was one of the best shows I have seen. I was so excited for season 4 and they deliver this confusing mess. I'm starting to not like June, so many plot holes and inconsistencies. The first few eps of season 4 were building up to being amazing. Except we ended up having to watch help groups for the women. Whoever wrote and directed this crap should be put on the wall.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
What did I just watch
Was hoping to be scared not amused. Somewhat too heavy on the computer graphics which were unbelievable and tacky. This movie should not have gone under The Conjuring name cause it let down the whole series. What on earth were they thinking when they allowed this crap to be released.
Fargo (2014)
Easily a 10 if it weren't for season 4
This show just got better and better. Season 3 was awesome, I did not want it to finish.
Then came season 4. Let's hope there is a season 5 that redeems where season 4 went wrong.
Bad Boy Bubby (1993)
Truly an amazing movie
Truly an amazing movie filmed in my hometown of Adelaide. I love a film that breaks all the rules and explores subject matter that some may find difficult to digest. Not a film if you enjoy cats.
The Office (2005)
Addictive
Absolutely loved watching The Office in its entirety. With constant laughs and the occasional tear, this show is work 10/10.
Our Girl (2013)
If only war was this easy
Tolerable for a show playing in the background whilst you do anything else. Not worth binging or telling your friends about. This over dramatised ridiculous and at times insulting attempt at showcasing war had potential early on. But then it all went to crap. Clearly not filmed in Afghanistan (the African extras and the South African mountains in the background ruined it for me). If you're looking for east Enders then you will love this. If you're looking for an amazing portrayal of a female medic and the trials and tribulations she experiences serving in Afghanistan, this is not your show.
Bar Rescue (2011)
Don't take it too seriously
I started by binge watching this show on YouTube and now watching the show over pay TV. Yes you can tell its fake in some parts, there are forced exaggerated scenes but the general theme of the show 'dodgy bar with help becomes thriving bar' is interesting.
Aside from this, I've actually learnt so much from this show about the bar industry.
I really like Taffers performance on each episode. Yeah its exaggerated and heavily edited, but isn't everything nowadays?
Eden Lake (2008)
Edge of your seat, in your face, far fetched thriller
In short the synopsis for this film should read : Two brain dead idiots who lack common sense, street smart and the ability to make reasonable decisions consistently upset a group of murderous teens, leading to a cat and mouse game of mistakes and wins. If it wasn't for the far fetched, idiotic and frustrating decisions of the couple, this film would would have actually scared me. Instead, I got to the point where I wanted the couple the die.
Lunatics (2019)
Everything Lilly does is pure magic!
Love love love this show. I love how crazy each of the characters are. I could watch this over and over and never get bored.
Hillbilly Elegy (2020)
Absolutely worth watching
Excellent movie showing life's struggles with a dysfunctional mother.
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2020)
Wa wa wo wa, not so much!
Watchable, but a massive let down compared to everything else he has done. The daughter angle was funny initially, then it became annoying.
The humour felt forced. I can only imagine the budget failed to extend to the creative spectacular that was the original.
Sacha is an absolute genius, why couldn't he invent a new character?
Worth watching but never again!
Gangs of London (2020)
My First 10 Star Review
What can I say, awesome, awesome, awesome.
Loved every single minute of season 1.
Finally some good TV post COVID!
Born to Kill (2017)
Second time round, still loved it
Psychological thriller, really well done. Great acting and somewhat believable. Worth the watch, even for a second time I loved this mini series.
Cardboard Gangsters (2017)
Worth the watch!
I felt like I was looking through a time machine into the suburb I grew up in. Everyone trying to make a fast buck no matter what side of the law they fall on. No respect for cops. A major struggle. Lots of eccentric characters. Yes the acting is average but I think this adds to the gritty nature of the film. Worth the watch if your not a pompous moron keyboard warrior who thinks they're some kind of movie specialist.
Clown (2014)
Was I the only one who fell asleep
In short, not scary, unbelievable, downright stupid. As a lover of good horror movies, this one missed the mark for me.
Line of Duty (2012)
Cannot Fault!
Loved every minute of this show. Watched it a second time for a different perspective. There is so much going on you're left on the edge of your seat. The acting is excellent and the twists a d turns leave you wanting more. Best show on Tv
Marcella (2016)
Worth watching, different.
I really enjoyed this series as it breaks the mould on the usual predictable crap we are fed on a regular basis. Many of the characters are hard to like, and the story line is wacky and somewhat unbelievable, but this didnt stop me from watching. If you lack the intellect and culture to tolerate a show that blurs the lines and delves away from the norm, then change the channel.
