Kuolleet lehdet (2023)
Magic of cinema
You know, lately i was i contact with bad films and tv series, and by telling "lately" i mean massive period of time and tons of content. And you know, this was the most surprising experience. I didn't expect that this film will be so unconventional and lovely. It is paradoxically cute and empathic, though the picture on screen is not colorful and surroundings doesn't add positive with it's look. Humor again integrated in special way and it is really funny and sometimes unexpected, again as you begin to watch you don't expect this kind of approach. Surprisingly good rec from mainstream critic - Anton Dolin. My applause to Mr. Aki Kaurismäki! He wrote a great script and staged it with genuine talent. At first i could not even formulate why i like this film, just mesmerizing. What is it, if not the magic of cinema?
Invincible (2021)
Full premium review
Here is everything you need to know about the series. First thing: it already has 2 seasons and it not yet bad *clap sound* Second thing: i'm not gonna watch S3 for sure and i don't recommend this to anyone. And know to show and it's seasons. Season 1 leaves you with very mixed emotions: though show is kinda brutal, it has it' fun and interesting moments, interesting characters, brilliant voice acting, a bit of intrigue(though it never end with anything interesting), action scenes are quite fine by all means, there are some cool cliffhangers(or let's say things that you think will lead you to some big big cool development, but again big no-no!) but not only that thing, it is all washed up by filler things like: absurd and empty villains, inappropriate goofiness all the time right after or during something really well thought out and serious or just serious, most of the good ideas not only totally failed, but forgotten. But, due to shows original vibe, it really still felt more like a fresh air and something good for the genre. As about season 2 guys, it even harder to explain. Let's divide this season in 2 parts, just as it was with it's release. And as for the first part of S2(first 4 episodes) almost head over everything we saw in S1: not only old staff gets fun development, but tons of new interesting lines, some kind of unexpected(well that what i would say as a pro also about S1) development. Allen episode( episode 3?) almost got me off seat(i'm like Daaamn, and, i don't ever usually do get involved in emotional burst), before they failed this peak moment, i literally thought, this is like in the best parts of GoT man. So this part still, although episodes probably featured the best moments of the entire series, still held back by the same stuff as in S1(though less in this part of the season) but also here you can already forsee thay this is gonna be totally "soap opera type" by again just seeing the moment with Allen development in s3(how it ended). Big "no-no" to this type of development. But as for the second half, you know here is when "soap opera" elements grows on everything and makes it all really bad. Season 2 literally has no sane ending(even OPEN ending!!!!), it just shows you some random moments of random things and like "the end" thing. And if it suddenly became so bad to the end of S2, you can bet all your money it's with Flash speed gonna became just as bad as all other tv series(terrible shows, terrible dialogue, arcs, with no development, plot armor on every notable character and so on). You know what made "The Invincible" show worthy? It is just, didn't feel like another senseless show, where every action leads to nothing, where nothing really important can't happen. I don't know how ultimate can my thesis be, but ask yourself, did you REALLY know what would be the ending of last episode of S1?! Did you really knew what will happen when Invincible and Omni-Man collide? Were you absolutely sure that any of those two characters has plot armor(or any of the characters)?! See, that is the difference! So this series every time had a chance to fly really high, bud it ended up every time like "just good", and in the end of s3 just became b******t! So i rate S1 6/10, S2 part 1 6.5/10(if allen episode would end as it should have it would be 7/10) and S2 part 2 4/10(only because degradation wasn't instant) And if you think 6/10 is the low rating, well, my 6/10 like others 10/10, but even more precisely selected
P. S. Atomic Eve special/episode/short is just "ok"
Prey (2022)
It could easily be not bad or even solid film
But you know, when clumsy pepega woman randomly starts destroying bunch of white males with weapons and tores a part of giant alien(with bare hands) and wins fight against him in cartoon style, you know it is too much. It was ok before that, though i should say before it films was more or less good. I think just by holding woman as she was presented in the beginning(loser type, obviously she is) and thinking a way of eliminating alien without her direct involvement(i don't know, like Terminator death under the press). Out of place OP woman, that looks fake in winning fight scenes(why don't you make her i don't know kill couple of bad guys with axe throw, you showed us in the start, she can throw an axe). I should say that the other guy, Dakota Beavers looks quite solid(even in fight scene with Alien), i think he would make a fine protagonist. And how he dies, it is just... no words
P. S. Also, the scene where two (including Naru) run from alien is just so bad... They are so slow...
Succession (2018)
Well, i should say my words about GoT were too hard
Is this really the best show our world has to offer? Well, there was a time when i watched like 5.5 episodes of this show and i droped this show with ease, cause it was boring, had no single interesting moment/case/scene/ plot line, no layered characters, primitive narration(casual cheap TV style) but you know back then i couldn't not suppose how big is this "talk" about this TV show. So, i gave up, one day, finished the whole 1st season and you know what? My opinion didn't change at all, on the contrary i am more than sure how right were my takes. Like really, the final of the 1st season? Don't you feel that this is unsatisfying random, unnatural set up(by writer) for the "twist"(is it a twist, really?). Okay, the second part of the show had like 2-3 good jokes or funny moments, but this is it. I just can't notice a single good thing about the show. Like, for example, many people, that recommend you this show is in big talk "all characters in this show are bad, disgusting and that there are deep layers of characters in it". Like, i can't see this at all. Every character lives with his own drama/trauma/ psycho problems and that's why it is quite easy to connect their action and problems, but moreover non of those show them as pure evil. Even the head of the family, Logan, that i guess should be perceived as the worst of the worst, but again in the end he doesn't look that bad, and aside from his words, his actions towards his kids is not hostile, even when they are clearly against him. For example: he offers a job to one of his sons, after the biggest conflicts, to solve problems in his life. The characters are mostly unlikable, but i wouldn't say that they make you feel anything except pity. I have a problem with all of this "godlike" shows like "Big Little Lies" that i can't literally remember anything, even names, the week after.
P. S. S1 of GoT is still boring, but it had papa Stark and then so many cool moments with Lannisters right to s6, and even Mother Dragon stupid arc(since her wildman hubby died), Invalid Kid stupid arc and Little Girl Killer arc can't change the fact than this show had one of the best moments and characters. However i'm not GoT fan at all, i think there is a big difference between all of those cult shows like BreakingBad(finished only 1 season) and so on that literally has nothing to offer for a demanding viewer, GoT has a lot of goods. Sure, there is a contrast.
Khrustalnyy (2021)
Shaky construction
It would be false to claim that this series had no problems right at the beginning. No, it is not true. But, i'm gonna be wrong if i'll say that the whole series was bad, as well. Half of it was actually good(more or less), first half of course. Certainly, right from the start you can noticed unnatural and cringy staging/directing, poorly written dialogues and good cast that really tries to overcome bad directing. Speaking about the good thing: this show does cliffhangers and development(in the first half) a way better than most of GENERALLY PRAISED "GOAT" TV SHOWS, shooting( frames and picture set up) ain't gonna bore you, the cast is right fit, emotional pressure(appealed to the viewer) is high, though, clumsy and badly written sometimes. And you know, what can spoil the show? The most common problem that i meet all over( aside from just grey emptiness) is lack of ability to develop good part/good ideas that you've already had. You know when your good, worked out part of work is all in, and right after that every single one of those "genius" directors, writers and other starts to think that they are more than casual talentless jokers, that maybe just got lucky with couple of random decisions, they just start to think that they know something. Sure, they don't. They don't know a thing. That's why last episode of this show looks like a big big nail to the coffin. It is just looks like some guy with not that much or a brain wrote it all down, on the big wave of thinking how great is his writing, though he doesn't even give a damn about unfinished lines, about illusory connections between what we see on the screen and where it leeds us in the finals. Sick of it, honestly
P. S. No s***, writing is the biggest problem in cinema!
Fisher (2023)
No trouble in paradise
But there is no good in hell. Well, what do you expect from detective series? No development( of the case, characters, situations), absence of important or interesting scenes, no intrigue? You eager to see how bad guy randomly appears closer to the end? Why no intrigue? Because every time this pack of losers gets anyone, they find so much problems with proofs and sane motives, that they don't even know what to do. And you know what is even better? When they have it all(problems with arguments), right at the start, when they caught someone, it just becomes so much worse when they find new bunch of facts that contradicts with their version... About the characters, yeah, they look realistic, actors are doing their job, but our 3 main guys are just so anti-likable and anti-sympathetic that when this combines with plot and absence of development it just turns into toxic blast of s***. Depicted world is quite realistic as well, but aside from us hating all of this "bad people"(let's use this friendly description) it makes nothing. Oh, yeah about the characters: 1st one is the most arrogant d-word, that is as much unlikable as it is even possible, 2nd one is weak in will, typical soviet with again wild perception(an behavior) of life, 3rd one is broken woman, that just swallows everything, because it was like that all the time(with her). And what do we have here? 8 episodes of 0 development(nothing substantial with investigation, proofs, with intrigues, with bad guy), massive push back from all the characters and the world(which again are authentic, but it does not make them nor interesting or involving, neither sympathetic or touching(on you sense level)). Literally, take a list of paper with you, and try to write the development episode by episode, and even if you can write something down, does it lead us anywhere? Last 2 episodes, where we just have all the info randomly appear? We never had a chance to know, that's why i think something is wrong with the "detective" side as well. You can say that, the actors is something good in this series, but their roles are so narrow, that we can't even have look on spectre of emotions. BTW those characters at some point(because of the time skip) have ANNOUNCED personality "development" that you can notice by looking at their... that you can notice by capturing their changed... by their different beha... no, it is all false. Example: Yankovsky always either in full raging gopnik mode, where he is swearing and throws at everyone or either "i have problems in real life, you know my wife..."( BTW it is so hilarious that Yankovsky plays raging gopnik here, he played exactly the same role before in Text, and now he plays gopnik in "Word of Lad", what an actor...) Nothing ever changes his character and on the top of that all, in the end he acts like a counter of himself(why?) So the only good things i can really commend are small in meaning, but surprising in their existence: ambient music/music here is quite harmonic, adds to the atmosphere, done with attitude and the guy, who picked frame perspective is also quite competent(probably it is hard to notice for someone, but some shooting moments look fresh and involving)
Chyornoe oblako (2023)
KEKW
When you add that dark tone, good shooting and worn out empty place drama, with overcomplicated bad twist(everything swerves around it btw) to casual NTV police-criminal war series this turns into streaming exclusive. Honestly, most of situations/scenes that you observe here look so ridiculous and funny, but not in a good and natural way, that it is impossible to buy this as serious story. Details either not making difference or making you care like zero. This detective guy, that always uses your grandpa jokes in any situation... I don't know, in my opinion characters, scenes, scenario do not stuck at all, cause there are massive flaws in them all. Just look at any drama scene from this series yourself, you can almost feel the inconvenience of actors, performing with bad text and awkward staging(i mean, behavior, reaction of the characters and overall situation)
Napoleon (2023)
Irregular joy
It would be incorrect to call "Napoleon" film without potential. Honestly i would definitely say that the first 1 hours and 20-30 minutes are quite fine. The film itself looks great, the decorations look really rich. The only thing i can notice in negative about the picture is flying camera, that kinda makes image blurry and shaky sometimes. The cast is really good. Phoenix, right after the Jokers again seems fit(though his participation in such films as "You Were Never Here" and "I'm still here" can make people think, that he is a terrible actor). Anyway, the story told in first 3/5 of the film chrono, though it is a crumpled, you watch it, let's say not without aesthetic joy. The other part is just boring, poor on events, poor on interesting moments with characters, dialogues and etc. The first part i would say ~6/10 and if it somehow ended around there, i would say that is is 3 heads over of Oppenheimer, for example(yeah, in my opinion Oppenheimer is quite bad, not like Nolan himself is a worthy director, but you got the idea), but the second part of the film is just really bad and boring, i pressed "right arrow" couple of times. Even with that, through my hardcore metrics, it is almost 5/10, but you know, the whole hour of bad film is just too much...
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Bottom of hell
What did you expect from the sequel of limitlessly boring and grey film? Pretty much the same? You know, it is quite possible to keep level of "boring emptiness" for long long time. But what we have here is just downgrade of already bad movie. Huge downgrade. Misplaced idiotic fanservice, non-stop... Dialogues like they were written by kid from elementary, they are more than terrible. If i could put all the thoughts on a paper i still wouldn't be able to express properly how unnatural and far-fetched all of the drama here, it is just physically painful to watch. The final "twist" is just could not leave me more unemotional and sure that i'm 100% not gonna be watching this again. And the cherry or this cake is that the living rich comix is looking amazing, but at the same time you understand that all the money, work hours and other resources have been spent on a terrible film. And this is just... sad, i don't know... P. S. This film has common problem of low frame rate, especially at the beginning, you feel just like someone stole 'em.
The Sopranos (1999)
4 seasons(+ opinion on 5 &6) review
Well, the first one was fine, even good, i would say. Funny situations, a bit of development of characters, from time to time and the overall plot development. The cast and acting not like unbelievable, but it is also good. The one thing i would notice about this series, that i thought would be different: thought violence surrounds you all the time, the whole series looks a lot like comedy, even more, like a comedy where every character a bit of a clown, in style of sitcoms. So i finished S1 and happily stopped, with thoughts "finally good show, that i can watch for 5 more seasons". And then... Well S2 is the embodiment of how to do everything wrong: superbad staging of fights and some other things(well S1 had this problem, but here it just excels), worn out lame dramas, that doesn't even have good presentation, narration and development. Literally no emotions at all. Suspension of disbelief is totally destroyed. Terrible. S3 is just a bunch of funfiction stories, barely representing anything together, barely developed. "Like Sopranos we keeping on a high note" this is known line of one stupid rapper and it just symbolizes how people(like him) don't see flaws and ups in any movie or tv series at all. Poor mental babies. My ratings: S1 - 6/10, S2 - 2/10, S3 - 3/10.
P. S. S4 is disgusting as well, i also checked out what's next and it is absolute darkness. Watch S1 and then drop it. Now i'm absolutely surez that right after the first season authors had no idea what to do and made it soap opera for degenerates(while the last ones were sure that they are watching something cool and serious it is even more childish and senseless than tv show for kids about superheroes)
The Flash (2023)
How you should work with fanservice and multiverse
Well, a couple words to say... First of all: Flash is a good fanservice movie, but kinda spoiled by bad graphics. Assuming that it was in a producrion hell, it is a big surprise that we got this work, yes, quite standard, but full of respect and love to DC and it's films and fans. If you think something like 6/10(assuming if this movie have ever had good graphics) isn't enough(for blockbuster), you just check my ratings, you will be terrified about other movie ratings, telling ya. Ezra's acting keeps us entertained during the whole movie, this is yeat another thing worth mentioning. The best part of this film is though it is quite light and undemanding it constantly shows you something that makes your sad face create and keep broad smile. Gosh, it was the first time in my 18!! Movies and series where i had fun! P. S. Are we really done here? After all of this? No more Man of Steel, no more Cavil? No more this Flash, that was drawing attention even in 2017 JL and blasts now? No more Affleck? No more best Bats? No more Dawn of Justice UE development(cause it os really unrivaled among the best comics movies and it is in reality a cinematographic masterpiece) Though i disliked ZS JL, i think we can surely give a shot to a guy that filmed Dawn of Justice. Yeah, i think that Wonder Woman movies are disgusting, that Aquaman's only place in the trash, but for example first SS(as well as Birds of Prey) was kinda average movie, that somehow was disliked by the audience, the second one was kinda entertaining. First Shazam was not that bad, though failed in the end, Black Adam would not be that bad if not the ending. Man of steel was OK the visual adventure. So it is something that we could work with, right? Cut worst parts, or remake them? It would be so sad, to end this after such a good example how through all the difficulties you can combine parts, actors, approaches and universes so different in a good film.
Friday the 13th (2009)
Bizarre thing
It feels like 2 movies in one, or let's say 3 in one. The one that was before the Title(20min or so) the best part, everything was harmonic and cool in it, i would give it 6/10 even for 20 minutes time, it surely did good impression. And now to the actual story(before title it was backstory): i think we can separate 2 part of this story, one chilling, teen-like comedy and this part i do think is fine and part where Jason appears, which i do think not any good. The main problem that this 2 part feel absolutely like they are from a very different films. A because of that scenes with Jason seems not to be connected with anything. I would not say that Jason killings were shown good enough, though they were quite brutal and it is really odd... So, the comedy part/casual story i would say something like 5/10, but Jason i don't know 3/10, maybe even 2/10 cause it is painful to watch this in the end? In the end the impression is not that i would call "satisfying", more like disappointing. The main part why you are probably going to watch this movie is failed(but so to say, i do think so about genre horrors: first friday, the one where Jason resurrection happens and nightmare on elm street 84, original Texas Death Chain Saw Massacre, Scream, Re-Animator but i would say even there it was more interesting) So as this lame slasher part takes most time and spoils impression about everything good, the rating is as it is.
Triangle of Sadness (2022)
amm?
Can anybody explain to me, what is it about this movie that made literally any single man like it? This movie doesn't have narration and connected plot. Like, literally you watch one scene after another and you're like puzzled, because even if you try hard you barely can connect this scenes together by your interpretation, EVEN by your interpretation. A number of scenes look awkward, comedic elements are pitiful, subtext is absent, films feels so overextended, that you want to double it's speed, when it is already on double speed. Just think about it, couple of years ago Parasites won in Cannes, and Parasites is a masterpiece and triumph of cinema by any means, but this, this is just... i don't even have a words to express my cultural shock and negative about this "film". I can't believe that this one was actually worse than Lobster.... Nevermind. If you steel need a proof that there is no real experts among "cinema experts" and "juries" and that they can't even distinguish the difference between masterpiece and trash, then go watch it, in other case don't touch this stinking p***e of ***p.
Big Little Lies (2017)
S1 is OK
It is kinda like daily type anime show(reminded me of "Maid Sama! "). Couple of funny daily jokes, funny competition between parents. The final "twist" is not like a twist, but well integrated i should say. I think it is more or less boring and overextended, but sometimes there is a moments that draw your attention, mostly comedic. Not like this show has any outstanding acting, but characters, i like realistically shown people, ambiguous. Would i recommend this show? Nope. I could not see any development or point of interest for hardcore viewer, and everything else not like something brilliant, so it is casual show, no more, no less. Yeah, there are a lot of terrible shows with hight rating and positive reviews, but i don't think we should hype something like that, cause we have truly good shows.
Dancer in the Dark (2000)
Sad
It was perfect untill music had started. I don't know who made staging for weird goofy dancing or wrote text for good melodies and good voices, but surely i know who was the mastermind of this mess, and he is to blade in general for spoiling perfect start. I don't know, sometimes Trier just pictures Nymphomaniac vol. 2 or Antichrist(or DITD), but all other time it's masterpieces( or excellent & exquisite comedy Boss of it All). This guy loves Mirror, but as far as i see it, Mirror one of the worst and senseless movies ever made. Something wrong in his head, for sure. Ok, if he made those movies drunk/high i take my words back, in other case it is a big no-no. You know why it is a big no-no in this particular case? Because after music starts it is not going to stop and let great story to be complete and finished. It leaves you with feeling of astonishing waste of potential.
Music scenes at some point just start irritating you and blocking you from watching the film. Anyway if we cut stupid music scenes my rating will be higher. Of course i forgot to mention that the drama with the officer was completely undeveloped and failed and well as the scene with his death... And the ending scene where she things(and the way she sings, the accent and tension overdose in it ), kills you.
Shingeki no Kyojin (2013)
Mediocre boredom
Is there a festival of senseless crap? If there is than Attack on Titan is one of my personal favorites. So much noise and so many positive reviews about THIS? Surreal. Poor on narrative, terribly written, empty and boring. In every of this qualities it just excels. Example how you should not do, if you want to write/make good show. First like 6 episodes were ok, but to end of 13th my limitless patience has come to an end. No, seriously, at first i've had interest in this show, what are the titans, what is the lore of this world, but halfway though season 1 i just can't stand this show. If you want to know what it is like being tortured by watching, go watch Attack on Titan, in other way don't. P. S. Guys, officially on 21st of May 2023, i take my words about Darling in the Franxx back, it was fine show. After watching so many terrible projects i should admit that in Franxx wasn't that terrible at all. It is probably one of the 2-3 shows i gave their low rating because i can't stand the approach rather than they are really among the worst.
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Living nonsense
Is this some kind of joke? I heard that this movie is good, that it had tremendous influance on horror movies, but, how can i just unsee what's happening on the screen? Surreal bad. Zombies look and act like clowns and not someone who would be afraid of. How involving is this movie? Mm, how to say... It is not like involving you, it washes you out. Extremely exhausting. Extremely poor in direction and staging. Character as dull as can ever be. I get it, many years passed. But for example Space Odyssey looks amazing even now and as a movie it is brilliant, and this thing is just crap. "Night of the living ***p" fits well. I finished so many disgusting movies and tv series, but this one is that "good" that i could not sit through( and it makes this movie one of few(can count by fingers on one hand) that i didn't finish)
Avatar (2009)
Hm, that was a thing back in a days i guess
Back at that time, in 2009 i was at premiere of this movie, in my local cinema(one on 100k town, and in a few years closed). As Avatar primarily known for it's graphics, and as i was kid-kid, i can't remember what my impressions was like, but i'm pretty much sure that i could not appreciate the graphics level and amount of work with visuals from the Avatar crew. Back in the days( and especially as you are a kid) i think every blockbuster movie was good. And it was my 1 view and that's it. See, i was not used to watch anything(started active viewing 4 years ago, and yeah, created my imdb account). And i also can't say that i am the big specialist about the graphics, that j watched all this big movies in decent quality with cinemalike experience before i share my opinion. So i rewatched it with question: is Avatar worth that buzz around it, even if it is all about the graphics? You know, i was never impressed by the graphics in cinema, and in general i have the impression that modern videogames give your more impressive visual experience(call it "better" experience, i don't know) and it is not about the interaction with decent graphics(that videogames have as basic feature), but the graphics. Again, not specialist, and i guess i don't have a proper experience to make ultimate judgement. But you know, actually, if we talk about effects in the movies, not like i just can't tell you thay i consider something over the top graphics, i just hardly can tell you about the projects with lots of graphics, which offered good graphics(on my personal judgement). The only project that comes in a head is Warcraft movie, that was decent, as a movie, and looked quite juicy, but again i wouldn't say that it's graphics knocked me off my chair( it looked like in pre-rendered modern blizzard games? So understandable, thay they can fit the level). I noticed also good effects(as well as staging) in Pirates 2(first half od the movie was good btw). Anything else just doesn't pop up in my head. Probably Batman v Superman, but again i should better rewatch it, before make a big judgment that it is best looking of comics movies and one of the best in general(in visuals). Space Odyssey surely looks like over all tops of it times, but was it about the graphics? As well as for example Prometheus. And as for the last thing, i would say that modern Star Wars have decent visuals effects( Rogue One and Episodes), but nothing that would make my chin fall off, you know. I also don't understand nowadays(yes, still) the big buzz about LoR trilogy, cause in many ways it looks too cartoonish and outdated, but i guess at it's time it was good. As about Hobbit, i would say that some models(as White Orc) look bad, the other as Goblin King(as from Witcher 3), but often again not like they are from a real world, but from a game. Hobbit surely doesn't look bad, but it wasn't better than video games of it's time(and so to say, people used to say and claim that the best looking movies outrun videogames cause the are just more suitable for showing advanced graphics, reason including time, power management and so on, and you know it seems more than fair), but isn't Hobbit(the first one) considered top of it's time? Nomination or win on Oscar, Hobbit had it right? And it was( in my understanding) nowhere near the limit of what could be done. And so, finally we come to talk about the Avatar itself! You know, as for it's artistic value it is kinda 0. Average movie, had ok start, than just turned into generic blockbuster. And while i was rewatching it i had my quarrels about couple of models and rather too low polygon face of the avatar(in the beginning, surely i was not the only one who noticed it), and about that from the height of our times, it rarely, but looks a bit too cartoonish, but i should say that the graphics, physics, particles and effects can definitely impress even hardcore viewer? But Avatar visuals does't end on it, the direction is juicy, shooting, frames, staging and decoration are amazing and what is even more impressive that it is organically coexists and fulfils each of the visual parts, to make it definitive excellent visual experience even after 15 years! After the release, so even when some whining guy like me that quarrels about action for the action, after the end, he touches his head and like: yeah, that was a thing, visual win, no diggity. So, i guess Avatar, as the top of effects and visual division will have additional point from me. But as it is quite empty and generic the rating isn't gonna be high.
Update: Ah, yeah, certainly effects that i liked were in Life of Pi, Transformers( 1 and 2 obviously solid movies on themselves, and as for Life of Pi, it is excellent) Maybe Interstellar has solid effects(but again Nolan always does good technical work, but i wouldn't say the same about his staging and fighting scenes. Probably Dune 2021 had an impressive effects. Likely Godzilla vs Kong.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
The Endgame
Here is my stop. I'm 100% sick and tired of those terribly written and designed multiverse. Marvel Studios just made their final blow. The whole multiverse saga is beyond miserable, it is so much more than just disgusting nonsense, it is whole universe of crap! Every new character in MCU(usually it's kids( of Clint and Scott for example)) makes fun of real guys that we know from films before, while being totally brainless childish clowns, that just don't listen to anything. Multiverse saga i believe should extend the lore, make the whole story broader, but it just ended up being the most unbelievable senseless thing thay i've ever saw. P. S. Even before, i would say marvel got cool movies as an exception, big exception( like first Iron Man or Homecoming) but as for now it is literally worse than anyone could've imagined. It has the worst writing and lore of all possible. Skip this trash.
Snatch (2000)
Ahhh.....
I haven't watched film that senseless and stupid since Brothers Grimsby? Purest cringe fest, of all that i've ever saw. Excuse me, but why people( especially some old ****s) used to masturbate on this chip and limitlessly mediocre parody on criminal movie? I mean, recently i watched Sopranos season 1 and though it is partly clowny, and i would say not that realistic and believable, it is still authentic, brutal and so on. Cause you know, when i was thought about watching this movie i've never met the description that made proper expectations, like " pathetic comedy try, for "kinda grown-ups" and other brainless creaker types, with bad editing and stupidity & unrealism overflow.
House of the Dragon (2022)
Exceeds the expectations
Well, people, from now on i take my words about Game of Thrones start back(like s1 or so), cause this TV series is far more lame, dull, empty, poor on the stories and cool characters, but this thing moreover is so santa barbaric and sugar that it is just impossible to watch. The only characters that made sense are hands of king(ok and Larys Strong), and the thing is, they are not doing anything except being reasonable and partly noble. In Game of Thrones start, we had Ned Freaking Stark, mature tone and dirt, and here we have cosplay, wanna be series. If you don't believe my word, just check out the weak king that we have here and how lucky he has such a good court compared to GoT(in sense of loyalty and qualification) and it is strange, cause the king is weak and unwise, i believe in Game of Thrones this guy would not live that long. And i could also say a few things about characters (un)development, about their aging too fast(or not at all, or not looking natural), about useless scenes where kid flies on the dragon, just to show you graphics(to my opinion, even graphics not impressive at all). To be honest, i got general impression that i'm watching some kind of fan fiction theatre or so, i didn't have suspension of disbelief even for a moment. No twist, no interesting events. Dummy.
Manderlay (2005)
Beauty and Ugliness
Fabula: SJW woman tries to build justice and piece everywhere she goes. And as you can suggest being naive and aspiring not helping much. She represents as i would describe it "perverted purity". She believes, that she is a holy simplicity( you can miss this subtext part(it is one of many, really) if you not an attentive viewer). And i would say that main characters with so many layers and development definitely makes watching more tense. Not to say that cast and acting are excellent. And as for direction by LVT, he did great, in his style. I highly recommend this movie to all cinema lovers, and i don't know about you, but after watching Melancholia, The House That Jack Built, Dogville, Nymphomaniac v1, Boss of it All i've got the hard feeling that Mr Lars Von Tries is an unrivaled genius and the greatest artist of modern day. The distance between him and all other directors is limitless. Among all the details of this picture, i would say that it's greatest feature is how it plays with esthetics: with the beauty and ugliness, duality of the world
P. S. I checked Antichrist and Nymphomaniac v2(both Nymphomaniacs in director's cut so to say), but i found antichrist(after 2 views) to be lame and empty, and as for Nymphomaniac v2, i would even dare to say that that one was a bad director's work. I suppouse i can probably change opinion about Antichrist later.
Heojil kyolshim (2022)
Disappointment
Is it enough to have not bad direction and good actors to make a film? Maybe, sometimes. But this one is not the case. 2 hour long film, with slow pace, that has no culmination? That has no climax? That has no ending? Don't you feel like there has to be something more for 2h timing? Literally this movie ends with nothing, not even with the sketch. I suppouse that i could miss some subtext or miss subtlety of dialogues and their meaning(although i heavily doubt that that dialogues in this picture have any of these features), but as for Thirst i was fine just with violence and unconventional presentation. This movie got a prize in Cannes for direction, really? Nothing special. In Handmaiden for example, direction was a way better, not to say about oldboy.
Zootopia (2016)
Physically painful
First 40 minutes were fun, light and entertaining, i would describe that kind of experience as "excellent", but after next 16 minutes film it was set to zero. After finishing i've felt very much like (mentally) squeezed lemon. Everything that happened after 40 minutes is complete narration's inconsequential disaster for 6 year old kids( and HOW it happened and directed)! I mean, it amazes me every time how in nearly every series or movie it starts with something cool and then end on the bottom, when suddenly everything stops being sane, when writing, dialogues, plot becomes over the top idiotic and unsatisfying in any way! Definitely skip this one. Movie for the kids(or how they often called "for family view") not means "bad movie". So, what you want is good animated movie? Go check Finding Nemo, Incredibles,Schreck 2, Cars or if you not care so much about top tier animation something like Dobrynya and the Dragon.
House of Gucci (2021)
Supreme acting and charm
Well, after "The Last Duel" this one was delightful, complete the opposite. Everything was believable, light, well written, entertaining and magnificent cast management was icing on the cake. I'm taking of my hat to Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, Jared Leto( i didn't recognize him at all) and it's hard to admit but Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta shines again, after "A Star Is Born", she does great, though i hate popular singers(and generally, you know this kind of senseless sugary adorable music, i would even dare to call it sweet-ass) for them being the most unoriginal, boring, weak on text and etc., i should say that now, i'really excited about Joker 2! She bought me.
