Grand Rapids National Guard Target Range – Small Arms Target Range was used for military training from 1907 until 1976. Grand Rapids National Guard Target Range was closed in 1972. The property was transferred to Kent County in 1976.

Grand Rapids National Guard Target Range – Small Arms Target Range is one of many former military installations throughout the United States reviewed under the Department of Defense's Munitions Response Site Prioritization Protocol. This protocol is used to assess Formerly Used Defense Sites that may have unexploded ordnance, discarded military munitions or munitions constituents, and to guide future investigations or munitions removal activities at these sites.
