White Paper Remote Mounting Configurations Wastewater Treatment Plants

Wastewater treatment facilities need to monitor for hazardous combustible and toxic gases, plus oxygen levels in many areas throughout the plant. Many of these areas, such as wet wells, grit chambers, clarifiers, etc are located in enclosed spaces without easy access to read gas sensor displays. Often, due to low or high densities of the gases compared to air, the gas sensor needs to be mounted in areas where it would be difficult to read the display on the sensor. Often plant operators will utilize sample pumps to draw the sample to a conveniently located gas sensor. There are major disadvantages to sample pumps including: Energy costs Maintenance costs Flow rates to set Filters to change Leaking tubing Plugged sample lines

Sierra Monitor gas detection systems eliminate the need for expensive and unreliable sample pumps. Using the Sentry Gas Risk Management System, the operator can mount the gas sensor modules remotely and with the RS-485 two-way digital communication between the controller and the sensor, the operator can perform most monitoring and calibration functions remotely from the Sentry Controller. The new Sierra Monitor IT Series combustible and toxic gas sensors utilize a reliable remote mounting configuration that also eliminates the need for sample pumps. The gas sensor can be mounted remotely from the transmitter/display by up to 100 feet.
