Reaping Predictions

On page 13 of The Hunger Games, Katniss talks about the reaping including the number of times a person name is entered each year from ages 12 -18. Katniss also describes how one can opt to add their name more times for tesserae. Go back to page 13 and reread the second paragraph on the page. After rereading the paragraph fill out the chart to show how many times Katnisss name was entered into the reaping for ages 12-16.

Now that you figured out all of Katnisss entries, find Gales number of entries for all his ages. (Remember Gale has a family of 5 including him).

Like Katniss, you are from a family that lives in the Seam. Your family has very little to live on so you must take out Tesserae to help you family survive. You need to take out Tesserae for each member of your family. Below calculate how many slips would be in the reaping ball for each reaping year. Now that you know how many slips you would have to enter for each reaping year, look at the chart below to find the month that you were born in. Under each month is an age, this is the age you are in the class reaping. Look back at your chart and find how many slips you will need to enter into the reaping ball.
