CH 3 Form 5

The document discusses the roles of hormones in the human endocrine system. It lists the major glands of the endocrine system, including the pituitary gland which is known as the "master gland". It then describes in detail the hormones secreted by the posterior and anterior pituitary glands, as well as how hormones like thyroxine are regulated by the hypothalamus and anterior pituitary. The document also covers the three ways hormones are regulated in the body and the cells in the hypothalamus that secrete hormones. It provides information on specific hormones including their function, producing gland, and target organs.

INVOLVEMENT OF BOTH THE NERVOUS SYSTEM AND ENDOCRINE SYSTEM IN THE FIGHT OR FLIGHT SITUATION

FIGHT OR FLIGHT RESPONSE

In emergencies/stressful situations (such as dog chases you, fire drill) we would want to save our lives. The sympathetic division of the Autonomic Nervous System will tell the hypothalamus to send impulse directly to the adrenal medulla to secrete adrenaline and noradrenaline.

These hormones rapidly causes body changes such as :

Increase in breathing rate (take up more oxygen) Increase in the heartbeat (to pump larger amount of oxygen and glucose to brain and skeletal muscle )

Blood pressure increases

Blood glucose level increases

Skeletal muscle becomes more energized TO FIGHT THE ENEMY OR FLEE FROM THE DANGER

HORMONAL IMBALANCE AND

RELATED DISEASES

The nervous system and endocrine system plays a major role in maintaining the homeostasis of the body . However, some poeple experience imbalance of hormones secretion (either overproduction or undersecretion ) resulting in some endocrine disorders .
