Death in Muthathi

Muthathi river in Bangalore attracts many visitors on weekends due to its proximity, but it is also extremely dangerous with many drowning deaths each year. Deep whirlpools and spots up to 50 feet deep are located close to shore and are unknown to most visitors. Over 100 people drowned between 2006-2008, with 80% being young IT professionals. Despite its dangers, there are no clear warning signs and alcohol consumption exacerbates the risks. Local groups are urging visitors to exercise extreme caution around the river's waters.
