Walls: How Heavy The Days Are

The poems describe feelings of isolation and despair. The first poem talks about how heavy and cold the days feel without a warm fire or laughter since love died. The stars even look desolate. The second poem is about thick, high walls being built around the speaker without their notice, closing them off from the outside world and leaving them feeling hopeless with their mind gnawed as they had plans outside the walls. Both express confinement and disconnect from the world.

How heavy the days are How heavy the days are.

There's not a fire that can warm me, Not a sun to laugh with me, Everything bare, Everything cold and merciless, And even the beloved, clear Stars look desolately down, Since learned in my heart that !ove can die. Hermann Hesse
