Listening and Pronunciation Worksheet

Task 1 Before you listen to the actual sentences, try and fill in the gaps with what you feel would be needed to make these utterances more diplomatic.

Do you think you can identify the language techniques used to achieve that? This is one of them Turning a statement to a tentative question (3)

For each pair of sentences try and imagine two different situations in which you would use either the direct or the more diplomatic approach. If possible, try and give examples from your own experience.

Please apply the techniques in 1B in transforming these sentences.
