Task 1 Before you listen to the actual sentences, try and fill in the gaps with what you feel would be needed to make these utterances more diplomatic.

For each pair of sentences try and imagine two different situations in which you would use either the direct or the more diplomatic approach. If possible, try and give examples from your own experience.
