Orientation Program: On Eye Donation

This document provides information about eye donation and corneal blindness in India. It notes that 11 million people in India are corneally blind, and only 40,720 corneas were collected in 2008 to treat the 1.1 million who could benefit from transplantation. The cornea is the outermost transparent tissue of the eye that can become cloudy due to various causes, leading to corneal blindness. Eye donation involves removing only the corneas within 6-8 hours of death, which can then be transplanted to restore sight to one person each. The document aims to spread awareness about eye donation and dispel myths in order to increase donations and help treat corneal blindness.
