Place names as intangible cultural heritage

CALL FOR PAPERS
The Romano-Hellenic Division (RHD) of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names
(UNGEGN) announces the International scientific symposium Place names as intangible cultural heritage
that will be held in Italy, in conjunction with its next divisional meeting (25th 27th March 2015).
The International scientific symposium will happen in Florence [Firenze], from 26th to 27th March 2015.
Experts on geographical names, historians, geographers and cartographers are cordially invited to take part in
the symposium. Participation is free of charge.
Topics of symposium are: preservation of the toponymic heritage, historical maps and toponymy, genius loci
and identity, etymological studies, place names of historical linguistic minorities, vernacular place names,
new toponyms, cartography and toponymy, role of geographical names authorities for preservation of the
toponymic heritage.
Announcements of papers and submissions of abstracts (max. 400 words) may be e-mailed to the chairman of
the RHD (see Registration form) no later than 28th February 2015.
Papers may be e-mailed to the same addresses no later than 14th March 2015.
