Genre
Rock

What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?

Casual/ or dark clothing

Live performances usually

If outside, natural light. But if inside, usually the use of other sources of lighting is
used, for example mini floodlights.

Sometimes narrative video- performance and concept based narrative.

The characters in the videos are often depicted as being rebellious and going against
mainstream society. This is usually shown through their confidence and stage
presence. Also, they are very passionate about performing and playing music.

Fast paced editing is generally used in rock music videos. This is mainly due to the

songs being faster with more emotion.

How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?

Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative; narrative;
impressionist; surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)

In my video, I am doing a live performance video which will be set indoors. I will use different
sources of lighting. The people in my video will be wearing casual dark clothing as well as
playing instruments.
I will also have a separate story where Rose (singer) is running from herself. When she
comes into the room, another of herself is sat in a chair tied by the hands and legs. Then it
will end with the other Rose in the chair looking up to the camera. Blacks out.

Costume
Dark (black and white) casual clothing. I have chosen to use this clothing as it is mostly
associated with this music genre, and also because in the music videos I have watched for
influence, the artist were wearing these types of clothing.

Lighting

Little light, focused on the performers. Spotlight as such. This helps to add to the effect I am
trying to give and also because it fits well with the genres music videos. I will also use
coloured lights in the background to give of a more vibrant effect.

Locations
Benson- set indoors in a small hanger type place. Open room. I have chosen to film in this
location as rock music videos are generally filmed in these types of places with a live
performance and it is also a good place to set my story.

Shot types
A variety of different shots will be used. For example, close up, tracking shot, long shot,
extreme close-up. This will help show from different types of views and give the video a more
exciting and appealing look.

Research
What music videos have you watched to research your genre?
I have watched videos such as Here We Go by Lower Than Atlantis; We Wanna Know by
Don Broco; Shout At The Moon by Mallory Knox and Monster by Paramore.

I watched these videos because they are similar to the music video I am looking to
do, and also fall into the same type of genre.

How have these videos influenced the decisions made? Include screen shots of the key
influences

These videos have influenced the decisions I have made because they have what I
am looking to do. For example, when I watched the video for Here We Go by Lower
Than Atlantis, I really liked the whole set up of the video and the lighting worked
really well with the shots. Also, the shots and editing looked very professional and
really helped me in deciding that that was the type of video I wanted to do.
I also like that type of music genre, so watching those types of videos helped me
decide what content I should have and how the video should look.

Lyrics/ Script
Low tracking shot of Rose walking towards microphone stand. Then screen fades out to black. Fades
back in to mid shot of Rose as the music starts.
Don't blame your death
On the shit in your head that you claimed ate you like a virus for days on end.

I watched you decay,

Watched you waste away.
Who'd you think you'd fool, baby, digging your own grave?
^mid shot of Rose as she sings the first verse. Lighting quite dark around her. Lighting focused on
Rose.

So go ahead, you just drop dead, full shot of the band

And while you're trying to fool the whole world don't forget that you'll decay mid shot of guitarist
playing.
And you'll waste away. Mid shot of drummer with hand held camera.
You can't cheat death when you're digging your own grave. Close up shot of Rose
Lights will fade out to black then come back on when the chorus starts.

You're out of line, full shot of band

Buried yourself alive, mid shot of guitarist
And expected to be fine. Close up shot of the bass
You can't rewind, full shot of the band
When you're choking on your own dirt, mid shot of Rose
Begging for your life.

Your bridges are burning. (All your bridges are burning) mid/close up shot of drummer
And all the tables are turning. (All your tables are turning) tracking shot of around the band
You started a fire and you're, full shot of the band
Burning up, up. Close-up shot of bass being played
Burning up.
Burning up, up.
Burning up.

Burning up, up.

Burning up (Hey, hey!)
Burning up, up.
Burning up.
Burning up, up.
Burning up. Drums
^Switching between shots of bassists, singer, guitarist and drummer

What you give is what you get. Shot that starts from the side and comes round to the front of Rose.
And in your case that's nothing but guilt and regret.
And all the flames you kept in your brain, Close-up shot of Rose opening door to enter corridor
Came out your lips and sent you straight into your own grave.
^ mixed with shots of Rose singing.

You were a walking, talking, corpse at best.

And I swear I couldn't wait to get you off my chest,
And when you asked us why
We couldn't look you in your eyes, shot of Rose coming through door. Corridor POV.
It's hard to find life,
In something that's already died.
^ switching shots between guitarist, drummer and singer/bassist.

You're out of line, Long/mid/close-up shot of Rose running down a dark corridor in slow motion
Buried yourself alive shot of Rose singing
And expected to be fine.
You can't rewind,

When you're choking on your own dirt begging for your life. Shot of corridor door closing.
Outside corridor view.
Your bridges are burning. (All of your bridges are burning)
And all the tables are turning. (All your tables are turning)
You started a fire and you're,
Burning up, up.
Burning up.
Burning up, up.
Burning up.
Burning up, up.
Burning up (Hey, hey!)
Burning up, up.
Burning up.
Burning up, up.
Burning up.
^ mixed shots of the band performing and Rose running through corridor
During instrumental, there is a mid shot from behind of the other Rose. Then cuts between Rose
running and the drummer, singer and guitarist.
You started a fire.

You're out of line,

Buried yourself alive, Rose enters room where she sees herself. Behind shot.
And expected to be fine.
You can't rewind.
When you're choking on your dirt, front shot of Rose. Close/mid shot.
Begging for your life.

Your bridges are burning. (All your bridges are burning)

And all the tables are turning. (All your tables are turning)
You started a fire,
And you're, we see a shot of the other Rose (Legs and feet) sat on chair.
Burning up, up.
Burning up.
Burning up, up.
Burning up.
Burning up, up.
Burning up (Hey, hey!)
Burning up, up.
Burning up. The other Rose looks up at camera. Blacks out.
The camera gradually moves up Rose who is sat on the chair. There are shots of the band performing
in-between these shots.

Meaning of the song

Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?

I believe the song is about karma and revenge. If you keep on lying and doing wrong, then
youll end up worse of or in a grave.
Youll get caught and make things worse in the end. Just be honest.

How will your visuals relate to the song? (Illustrate, Amplify or Disjuncture)
The setting will be in a large empty room, and the lighting will be quite dark. This will help to
show the meaning of the song as it is quite dark, and also the words used are very to the
point and harsh, so the darkish setting and live performance will really help show and relate
to the song.
There will also be a separate story where Rose (singer) is running from herself. When she
comes into the room, another of herself is sat in a chair tied by the hands and legs. Then it
will end with the other Rose in the chair looking up to the camera which will blacks out on the
last sound of the song.
