Worker's Participation in Management

Workers' participation in management (WPM) involves keeping employees informed about company affairs and allowing them to provide input and contribute to management decisions. It can take various forms from informative to decisive participation. The objectives of WPM are to increase productivity, give employees a better understanding of their role, and satisfy their desire for self-expression to promote industrial peace. For WPM to be effective requires a democratic management attitude, strong unions, mutual trust, clear objectives, continuity, and training in participation. Benefits include reduced unrest, improved communication and productivity, and industrial democracy. Reasons for failure include ideological differences, too many forums, weak unions, poor relations, illiteracy, and non-cooperation.
