Science Activity

This document appears to be from a science experiment measuring reaction time. It includes a materials list and data tables to record reaction times in centimeters for catching a dropped ruler with both hands and with eyes open and closed. The tables include spaces for recording results of 5 trials and calculating averages. Questions at the bottom ask about which hand reacted faster with eyes open and closed, why nerve messages take time, and describing the nerve pathway followed when seeing a ruler fall.

1. With which hand did you catch the ruler faster when your eyes were open?
-right hand (left hand for the other)
2. With which hand did you catch the ruler faster when your eyes were closed?
-right hand (left hand for the other)

3. Explain why a message moving along nerve pathways takes time.

-It is due to the fact that the message doesnt directly go to the brain but it still needs to travel
from one neuron to another before it reaches the brain.
4. Describe the nerve pathway that the message followed when you saw the ruler fall.
-First, the eyes saw the ruler fall, then the message travelled from one neuron to another until it
reaches the brain. The brain sent a response through the muscle in hands then the muscle in hands
moved to catch the ruler.
