Simple and Compound Sentences

A simple sentence contains one subject and one predicate, while a compound sentence joins two or more simple sentences with and, or, or but. A compound subject has two or more subjects joined by and, and a compound predicate has two or more verbs joined by and or or that share the same subject. Commas are used before and, or, or but when joining simple sentences, and to separate items in a series of three or more nouns or verbs.
