Genetics Lab Reflection

Genetics lab provided students the freedom to study and explore materials at their own pace in groups, similar to a mini-thesis. While the independent work was preferable to feeling pressured, the student found discussions after labs with professors would have helped explain real-world results that deviated from theoretical outcomes studied in lectures, in order to gain a better understanding of topics.

Genetics lab reflection

Genetics lab is like a mini-thesis. You apply what you have learned in the lecture. You
work on your own pace along with your group mates. We were given the freedom to
study, explore and discover the materials on our own. I prefer this method for I don't like
the feeling of being pressured but I think the course could be improved if post laboratory
discussions were given. In lectures, we study the theoretical or perfect outcomes while in
laboratory we are faced with real situations which deviates from the theoretical results so
I think it is ideal to provide some sort of explanation. I know we should do it ourselves
but sometimes a student-professor discussion somehow elicits better understanding of the
topic.
