Chairmans Chat

Hello again

Happy New Year. Lets hope its a good one without floods, roads &
bridges washed away, trees down etc spoiling our runs and shows.
Last years chat included an appeal for a new quartermaster to look
after the stores held in the container at Corbridge. It wasnt in the job
description to be able to dive. After the December floods the BBC Look
North reported a container had been moved by the force of the flood.
Fortunately it wasnt ours but when George & Lorraine went to have a
look the water mark was up the side. We have yet to find out what
happened inside, although we suspect the water got in.
Also in December we had the Christmas meal at the New Kent Hotel.
This was a very nice night out with a good meal and plenty of dancing
to work off the extra calories. Thank you Eileen.
You may have seen the excellent article Jonathan Bayliss wrote about
the Heritage Run for the CAMRA magazine, Canny Bevvy. Unfortunately, as you will read elsewhere, Jonathan has been seriously ill and will
not have seen this published.

I have shared many runs with Jonathan and have always enjoyed his
company and hope for his recovery.
One of the charities benefiting from this years Corbridge money was
the Stephen Carey Trust. We have funded a public access defebrillator
for Corbridge. The equipment is ready to be installed but this has had
to be delayed due to the recent flooding.
Lorraine is progressing well putting together the programme for 2016
but if you have an idea or would like to volunteer please get in touch.
Traditionally the first run of the year has always been the Chairmans
Run on the last Sunday in March, however this year we also have runs
in January & February and as the last Sunday in March is Easter Day
we have decided that the Chairmans Run will be on 3/4/16. With an
extra week to plan it should be good!
Best wishes

Mini Clubman
The Clubman, or square-nosed Mini was introduced in
1969.in saloon, estate and 1275 GT form. Originally suspended hydrolastically this was dropped in July 1971. (The
car tended to pitch causing our Sons to be sick unless we
chose Motorways).
The GT and saloons were discontinued in 1980 with the estate continuing as a 1000HL for another two years.
The GT would certainly motor and ran smoothly on its single SU (Quentin Wilson got it wrong, but I am sure twin SU
conversions would be available from Special Tuning). He
did get his forecast of values correct, however. A good GT
might cost you five figures. I got 545 as trade in in 1975.
