Design of Pilecaps

This document provides design criteria and calculations for determining the number and capacity of piles and main reinforcement for a piled cap. Key points: - Service loads are used to determine the number of piles needed based on total axial, horizontal, and moment loads. - It is assumed piles are the same size and layout is symmetrical. Loads are resolved into vertical, shear, and moment components applied at the pile head. - Calculations show a minimum of 2 piles spaced at 1.5m is needed based on the moment of inertia of the pile group. - Maximum and minimum loads on individual piles are calculated considering axial and moment loads. The required pile capacity is determined as 2 times the maximum pile load. -

DESIGN OF PILED CAPS

To determine that the Numbers of Piles and the Working Capcity

of Each Pile is Satisfactory
To determine Main Rebars for Pilecaps
Design Criteria

(1) All loads for determination of pile nos to be based on Service Loads

(2) Assume all Piles to be same size and shape

(3) Assume all Piles are laidout in Symmetry about Y-Y and X-X axes
(4) All Forces vis: Vertical, Horizontal, Moments are at Pile Head level
(5) Horizontal Force can be resolved into Horizontal & Moment
(6) All Loads will be taken by Piles

* Vertical Loads taken by Vertical Component

My

* Horizontal Loads taken by Pile Head Shear and/or Raking components

Hx

* Moments is taken by Vertical Opposing Reaction

Refer FIG 1
