Text: Discrete Mathematics and its Applications, Seventh Edition (Abridged UNC version), by Kenneth H.
Rosen
Prerequisites: Math 232 or Math 283
Home Work: On Tuesdays a homework assignment will be given due the following Thursday (except two
on the mid-term exam days, which will be picked on that Tuesday). Late homework will NOT be accepted.
The homework assignments will NOT be graded. But those who turn in their homework will be corrected.
Quizzes: A series of thirteen quizzes will be given in class (at the beginning of the class) on Thursdays
(except two on Tuesdays before the mid-term exams) each of 20 minutes duration. The quizzes will be
from the homework set due that day. The quizzes will be graded and will carry a total of 100 points. Out of
a total of 13 quizzes, the worst three will be dropped. Thus, each quiz will count for 10 points. No make-up
quizzes will be given.
Quiz Dates: January 21, 28; February 4, 11, 16 (Tuesday), 25; March 3, 10, 22 (Tuesday), 31; April
7,14,21.
Exams:

First Exam (in class): Thursday, February 18 (100 points)


Second Exam (in class): Thursday, March 24 (100 points)
Final Exam: Thursday, May 5, 12:00-3:00 (200 points)
Quizzes: 100 points

The final exam will cover the entire course. A written excuse from the Deans office is required for any
student needing to take the final exam at a time other than the scheduled time. No make-up mid term exams
will be given unless there is an emergency.
Syllabus: The course will roughly cover chapters 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 of the text book.
