Math and Science Reading K

This document summarizes an article about creating a love for science in elementary students through inquiry-based learning. It discusses instructional strategies like the 5E model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate) that allow students to construct their own learning. These strategies make science more interactive and help students connect lessons to their own backgrounds and interests. The document also notes how using tools like KWL charts in lesson planning can help teachers understand students' needs and engage them in the learning process.

Title: Creating a Love for Science for Elementary Students through Inquirybased Learning
CITATION: Trina L. Spencer Tracy M. Walker. Creating a Love for Science for
Elementary Students through Inquiry-based Learning. Journal of Virginia
Science Education v4, n2.
ABSTRACT:
For the purpose of this article, this
problem raises the questions: 1)
What instructional strategies
could be used to create a love for
science for elementary school
students? 2) What strategies help
students connect their
backgrounds to scientific ideas?
and 3) What strategies help
students learn in non-routine
ways?

ANALYSIS/REFLECTION:
Creating a love for science is a
very difficult process for a
teacher but can be made very
easy as this article points out.
This article discovers
instructional strategies that
teachers could use in their
classroom and focusing on the
five Es; Engage, explore,
explain, elaborate and
evaluate. These five Es can
create a love for science for
students because they can
make the students feel part of
their own learning by
constructing what they are
learning. Science can truthfully
being boring when simply
taught and lectured to us but
once you get involved science
can be fun, interesting and
creative. This article also
speaks about lesson planning
for science and touches on
using the five Es process to
create one. If a teacher takes
the time and figures out and
KWL chart they can truly
connect with a student and
teacher both to their needs and
wants thus engaging them
better than ever before.
