Miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) are suitable for normal operation and protection of end circuits like lighting and sockets. They have only two positions, on and off, and ratings from 0.5 to 125 amps with short circuit protection up to 25kA. Molded case circuit breakers (MCCBs) can have adjustable protection settings between 50-100% and have on-off-trip positions. They operate through thermo magnetic and electronic mechanisms, have reset ability, and standard sizes range from 25 to 630 amps with short circuit protection up to 100kA.

Miniature Circuit Breaker:


The simplest form of circuit breaker which is suitable for operation by normal person
.It generally have fixed protection settings with only 2 positions i.e. on and off. This
breaker is normally used for the end circuit protection e.g. lighting, Heater, Cooler,
Sockets etc. These breakers are normally available in range of 0.5-125A with Short
Circuit Current Rating up to 25KA. The Standard MCB sizes in Amperes are
6,8,10,13,16,20,25,32,40,50,63,80,100,125 (underlined are ones that I have not
seen in Abu Dhabi)

Molded Case Circuit Breaker:


Molded circuit breakers may or may not have adjustable protection settings e.g. the
operational current normally can be adjusted from anywhere between 50% and
100%. They normally have three operational position i.e. on-off-trip. Mechanism of
working is normally thermo magnetic and electronic .Plus they also have a reset
option. The operational current ratings are
16, 25, 32, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, 250, 300/315, 350, 400, 500,
600/630, 800, 1000, 1250, 1600, 2000, 2500, 3200
Standard sizes are from 25A to 630A. The short circuit current rating is up to 100KA.
