Dear Parents,

Welcome to third grade! This year, we are using the Handwriting Without Tears program for cursive. Copy words. This developmentally appropriate program uses hands-on, multisensory techniques to help children transition from print to cursive. Your child will be using the Cursive Handwriting workbook to learn a vertical style of cursive that is easy to read and write. We will introduce lowercase letters first, beginning with those that are similar to print. Cursive Handwriting emphasizes correct habits for forming and connecting letters. Lessons invite active participation with silly spelling, fun sentences, activity pages with interesting themes, and more. Check take My goal is to make handwriting a natural and automatic skill. The attached chart shows you how to make the letters and numbers. I am excited about helping your child develop good handwriting skills. Throughout the year, I may ask your child to bring items from home to support classroom lessons. I may also send materials for home practice and discussion. I would be delighted to discuss this curriculum in detail as well as ideas for how you can further support lessons at home. Sincerely,
