The 1st vacancy occurred on June 30, 2010, after Benigno S. Aquino III (Liberal) became President of the Philippines. The 2nd vacancy occurred on August 3, 2011, after Juan Miguel Zubiri (Lakas-Kampi-CMD), whose election was contested before the Senate Electoral Tribunal by Aquilino Pimentel III (PDP-Laban), resigned on August 3,2011 due to the controversies about the 2007 senatorial elections.
