Case Study Solution

Ricardo Semler reduced his involvement with SEMCO to pursue other interests. SEMCO practiced participatory management which increased revenue, profits, and coordination between management and employees. However, firing 60% of top managers and cutting management salaries and wages could undermine the expansion plan and create fears about job security. While participatory management engages employees, it may slow down decision making in a rapidly growing company due to involvement from all levels. Maintaining secrecy can also be challenging with this management style.
