______________________________________________________________________ PRESS RELEASE Minara Chamber of Commerce to host International Conference on Islamic Business Durban based Minara Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Riphah International University, will be hosting a conference with the theme: ISLAMIC BUSINESS PRACTICE: TOWARDS SOCIO ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION in Durban (South Africa) from the 22nd to the 25th November 2012. The exciting Conference, the first to be held in Durban, will highlight how businesses working within an ethically compliant framework can thrive and work together to address socio-economic challenges in South Africa and internationally. By integrating these business principles and practices into their management and operations, businesses can position themselves for growth and success whilst impacting meaningfully and positively on alleviating poverty, striving towards socio-economic justice and prosperity for all. The conference will combine global aspects with local circumstances and as such 11 International experts and 7 South African experts will speak at the conference. In the current global economic crisis South Africa's strategic focus on greater South-South co-operation to grow our economy by seeing new markets, has led to a strengthening in trade ties with China and India and much more interaction with Africa and the Middle East. This new and emerging strategy will mean access to more than one billion consumers from the Muslim world spread across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Islamic Economics or the guidelines under which Muslims conduct business and which regulate the burgeoning Islamic Finance industry is an important facet of understanding how to unlock these markets and what its potential is for the development and growth of our local economy. Solly Suleman, President of the Minara Chamber of Commerce stated: Islamic economics and finance has real relevance to the growth of our economy and our nation. With the SA National Treasury contemplating the use of Islamic Finance for the funding of infrastructure expansion it is an opportune time to have this conference. We are confident that this conference will serve as an effective and timeous knowledge sharing forum on Islamic Business and finance. This conference will run over three days beginning with a public lecture on 22 November 2012 by Professor Anis Ahmed, Vice Chancellor of Riphah University, and will end on Sunday, 25th November. A gala banquet will be held on the evening of Saturday 24 November 2012 to recognize the achievements of South Africans who have made positive contributions in the spheres of humanities, economics, medicine, arts and culture and nation building. Tribute will also be paid to Inkhosi Albert Luthuli for his sacrifices in the freedom movement. For Further information contact Amina Haniff on 031 2081898 or email info@icib.co.za
